Self insemination - Any success stories?!

Hi everyone,

I have NC'd for this to save our blushes!
DH and I have just had our first round of IVF which was sadly unsuccessful after an early miscarriage.
We have 2 frozen embryos but we would like to TTC naturally for the next 6 month's first in the hope the IVF hormones might help boost our chances.
DH has always struggled to ejaculate inside me when DTD. Therefore we have decided to try self insemination in the hope it will take away some of the stress.

I would love to hear any success stories.

Also which insemination kit did you buy?

Has anyone tried a soft cup / Ferti Lily conception cup after inserting the syringe to help things along?

@MrsKin90 are you going to test tomorrow or on the weekend already? I don’t know what to do...

Me? I'm only 4dpo today (although I think maybe 6 but I'm going with the worst case option so I don't get excited when AF is 'late') so definitely no testing yet for me! I AM already going crazy symptom spotting though even though I know nothing has even happened yet 😂 can't help myself honestly. I'm going to try to pack it in but I think I'm just a bit desperate now.
I'm excited for you both to be testing soon(ish)! Crossing everything someone gets a bfp this cycle!

I caved in and tested today - BFN I’m afraid! But it’s 11 DPO so not losing hope yet - it ain’t over till the AF arrives!

Same here - I caved and BFN! I am only 7DPO.

@AdriannaP in your case you’d most likely still be before implantation so fingers crossed!

I have been feeling oddly nauseaus and getting weird cramps but I think it might be wishful thinking and PMS. Still keeping everything crossed though! 🤞🏼

I know! Not doing myself any favours by testing so early.
Last time my implantation was 12 DPO even.
Will test again Sunday.

Well... I said it wasn't over till AF arrived, and then it literally did a few hours later - booo! It's two days sooner than I would have expected it, but it might be that things simply haven't come back to normal-normal for me since the MC yet.

Gutted, but at the same time I know that early period means that we will be able to try again a few days sooner than normally, so I have to stick to this positive thought!

@AdriannaP you're only 8dpo aren't you? If we're not supposed to symptom spot because PMS and BFP symptoms can be the same then we shouldn't be allowed to period spot either! 😊Hoping it's a good sign for you. When is your period due?

Yes I am 8DPO, period is due in 4 days (I ovulate a bit later in the cycle).
I had a tiny amount of spotting this afternoon so could be early signs of period. 😞 I don’t want to get my hopes up for an implantation bleed.

@AdriannaP are you testing again today?

No I am spotting so no point in testing.
If it’s an implantation bleed, it won’t show as positive yet. But more likely it’s start of AF. 😞

I’m rather new to mumsnet however I am so glad I’ve come across this thread (tbh I was looking for a discussion around this) as I’m looking for people to talk to concerning this!
DH and I have been TTC since Nov ‘19 (when I got my Coil removed) and had been DTD every 2-3 days around my predicted O.
My cycle seemed to come back straight away and be regular (25-26days each month) however DH has a problem also finishing off where he needs too... and I gotta say, it’s a bit reassuring (hopefully not rude!) that there are other couples out there who have the same issue.
I’ve used various cheap OPKs and am using CB at the moment to monitor my LH surge...! So according to them, I am Oing....!
I’m currently on CD4 so will start the peeing on a stick from CD7 I think. Last cycle was our first cycle self inseminating and I got to say it definitely took the pressure off.
Got a question though... I’m not sure if DH and I are doing it right...!
DH does the inseminating but when he slowly pushes it all in, nearer the end it kinda... bubbles out (sorry if TMI and when I say bubbles... I mean makes a noise and literally bubbles out) is this normal? Is there something we are doing wrong?

My sister used a turkey Baster, and followed my tip of putting your legs up on the headboard for half an hour afterwards.

Worked both times. The legs in the air worked for me too but I ended up with twins once so may have done it for too long

@Minniee nice to hear a success story! Thanks! If only having twins was so easy as keeping legs in the air!! 😂 There'd be a massive influx of them if that were the case I think!

@MrsCSmith welcome to the thread! I don't think it sounds like you're doing it wrong. Maybe worth trying to get a few of the air bubbles out before you insert if there are lots in the syringe? I also find sucking up the goods veeeeeeery slowly helps with bubbles and also releasing them very slowly makes for less bubbling? Hopefully those more experienced in this will be along to help! 😊

@AdriannaP how is your spotting today? Had my fingers crossed for you that it's an IB rather than AF.

I'm either 8dpo or 12dpo today. I've had a very salty taste in the back of my throat but I've had a cold so could be that and not actually something I've ever heard of being associated with a bfp 🤷 Also very sore aching boobs... Feel like I am aware of them all of the time. I just feel a bit different all over this cycle but idk if that's because it's been a weird cycle with thinking I Ov'd three different times!
If my period doesn't arrive in two days I've given myself permission to test but if BFN and no AF will know I Ov'd later than expected.
Hope everyone else is okay.

@MrsKin90 third day of very light spotting. Don’t need a pad or tampon, just when I wipe. Blood is pink-ish, with a little bit of CM.

Interesting/odd. Is spotting typical for you?

I had spotting with my last pregnancy (which ended in MC) and sometimes spot before AF. Could be either at this stage 😞 spotting is not getting stronger (yet).

@MrsKin90 I’m always hyper aware of symptoms since I’ve been ttc - never really noticed how sore my boobs got before AF!
Fingers crossed for you too that it’s a BFP if you decide to test!

Welcome @MrsCSmith I find it really hard to get all the bubbles out so I just go ahead with a few left in and hope for the best. I haven’t heard a noise but it doesn’t sound like you’re doing anything wrong. What kind of syringes are you using?

I feel so weird at the moment. Bloating and nausea but still way to early to be anything. Also my temps are not nearly as high as they normally are post Ov so I’m starting to lose a bit of hope

@MrsCSmith I'm pretty sure I'm 13dpo today and I've started having some cramps so I'm probably out 😟 I'm not even going to bother to test! I'm not a big fan of testing before AF is due anyway. Last cycle I had a really long LP so who knows with this one. TTC definitely gets you in touch with your body! Every tww has been a bit different for me so far so it's hard to know what's normal and what isn't. Goodluck for this cycle ! 😊
