How long to conceive at 37?

Hi! Hope everyone is well. I am wondering about what is 'normal' with regards to conception at age 37! I conceived in April 2019 by surprise and unplanned - however in July 2019 I suffered a miscarriage at 12 weeks. Obviously it was a very upsetting time despite the pregnancy being unplanned. We have been trying to conceive ever since with no luck - I have regular periods so can time my ovulation but we don't seem to be getting anywhere. Last month I was 4 days late for my period and my period was SO heavy - I was wondering if that could have been significant? Anyway - just wondering how long it took other people at my age and if I should be getting checked out? Thanks! Smile

Hi there. I am 37 years old and have been TTC for 9 months now. I got pregnant with my dad at 35 after five months of TTC. I went to the Dr and they said it can take up to a year for s couple to conceive. Hope that helps.

HopefulHarry · 26/12/2019 22:23

Sorry I just realised it says dad...lol...damn you spell checker it was supposed to say dd (as in darling daughter)

Hi in my 20s with my 1st 3 children I conceived on the 1st or 2nd month.

At 33 I conceived 1st month with another child.

At 37 it took me 7 months to conceive my last one . It'll happen!

Try acupuncture with someone local who is a member of the professional body and has an interest in pregnancy. It can really help. It’s not woo woo. You can get it at GP surgeries now for things like varry veins, but not for pregnancy as far as I am aware. I pay £50 a session for my various conditions. Mine is in Scotland and is great. She’s been the last hope of lots of women with histories of mc’s, and older women ttc. Good luck OP

It took me one month to conceive when I was 36 but it ended in a miscarriage after 8 weeks.

I conceived again a month before my 37th birthday after trying for three months and that ended in miscarriage after 10 weeks.

I then conceived just after I turned 39 after trying for five months and this was a successful pregnancy and I now have a 20 month old 🙂

Use ovulation sticks to know when to dtd , agnus castus might be something to look into and sperm friendly lube. I used all. Tracked ovulation as I came off pill. Used agnus castus as I ovulated so late in my cycle- used for 3 months. Bought sperm friendly lube- used 2x one day after the next and conceived. Good luck! First dd took 4 months to conceive at 35. Came off pill and conceived first month with ds!

Weirdly enough it took me less time in my late thirties than in my mid-late twenties!

Fell pg on the pill (progesterone only) the middle of last year but sadly miscarried very early on. Then after that got pregnant at 39 the first month of trying!

GP did advise us though that it can take up to two years being older. We were lucky but proof it can happen quickly, even as an older mum.

Wishing you the very best of luck Smile

twinkledag · 26/12/2019 23:12

Started trying for baby number 2 age 37. 41 next month with 4 failed ivf cycles behind me.

kidsareok · 27/12/2019 09:22

Thank you everyone! I guess we will just keep on TTC and give it a while longer - it feels like ages when you really want it doesn't it?! Smile

At 36 it took me 6 weeks.

pumpkinpie01 · 27/12/2019 09:32

I started trying at 36, ( not first but very big gap) I had a year with 4 miscarriages then a year trying to get pregnant which was successful after using progesterone, taking aspirin and cough medicine.

wtftodo · 27/12/2019 09:33

The 12 months thing is a bit misunderstood. Most people will conceive within 1-3 months. The proportion of people who will conceive at each subsequent month drops off q substantially.

Definitely use a decent tracker and at 35 and over, you should see a GP for testing after 6 months, not 12. Do you know when you ovulate or are you guessing based on your cycle? I realised I was ovulating earlier than I thought and I don’t think I understood initially that you can only get pregnant from sex up to and including the day of ovulation.

legoninjago1 · 27/12/2019 09:34

Late 30s, first try, both kids. It can be easy. Hope it is for you.

bananamonkey · 27/12/2019 09:58

It took 7 months for my DC1 at 33 but I wasn’t tracking properly and my cycles were crazy coming off the pill. At 36 last year took 2 months although that ended it MMC. After this it took 6 months (now 23 weeks pregnant at 37) but I had several chemical pregnancies in between and hit on every cycle, it just didn’t stick till later. I thought I knew when I was ovulating but temping really helped me pinpoint it better. Good luck OP, it’s so frustrating.

2childrenandout · 27/12/2019 10:02

Started trying for DD aged 33 and took 2 years. DS took 1 month aged 37. The fact you've been pregnant once is positive.

BikeRunSki · 27/12/2019 10:08

First child conceived at 37 in 6 weeks, born a few weeks before 38th birthday.
Second child conceived at 39 in 4 weeks, born a few weeks before 41st birthday.

I wasn’t on any hormonal contraception beforehand and DH is 5 years younger than me, I’ve wondered if this helped, because I appreciate we were very fortunate with quick and easy conception at those ages.

Macbless · 27/12/2019 10:55

We got pregnant the 7 month of trying when I was 37 and my DH 40. I had been tracking my temp and doing OPks the whole time and I'd been temping for a year before so knew my cycle well. I was starting to get worried as we'd been TTC and doing everything right but not pregnant and then suddenly doing nothing different we got pregnant. We'd been to the GP at 6 months and had bloods/ and SA and they were all normal.
All I can say is stick at, try not to get too down if it's not happening and do go the GP (I think you'd said you'd been trying 9 months)
Good luck xxx

Crazymummyto3 · 27/12/2019 11:43

I conceived ds1 first month at 24 years, dd1 first month at 27 years, dd2 first month at 32 years and currently on cycle 5 of tic number 4 at 35 years old

universal83 · 27/12/2019 13:44

I am 36 will be ttc when I am 37 in May dur to holidays and weddings etc
It took me first go when I was 29

neverornow · 27/12/2019 20:54

I've been pregnant 3 times, one was a MC, and each time the clear blue ovulation kits were bang on for me. Really recommend them even if you are confident of your cycle and when you're ovulating

Good luck!!

Her0utdoors · 27/12/2019 21:02

Think I was 37, possibly 38, dunno, I've e barely slept since . It took 12 months, but h was supposedly infertile after cancer treatment and we only had sex once a month so actually it didn't take very much at all to conceive.

AntiHop · 27/12/2019 21:04

I only have one child. Started trying at 36. Successfully after 2 months.

dimdarkashian · 27/12/2019 22:00

I was very lucky. 35 with DS1 took 1 month. 38 with DS2 also took 1 month.
