Hello,
I'm looking for some personal experiences and would love to hear your stories.

I am getting married in April next year. I realise at 36 I will be classed geriatric Hmm
We want to try and get pregnant as soon after the wedding as possible. I want to know how long it took to conceive if you're an 'older' mum?

My implant was taken out in sept, I have very regular periods....if that helps.

Should I start trying now?

Thank you in advance x

Married in September, implant out end October, pregnant in January, first baby arrived November at the age of 36. Good luck, don't hang about for no 2 if that's in your plans.

Doilooklikeatourist · 21/12/2019 19:51

I stopped taking the pill and conceived 2nd month at age 34 and 36
DD2 was born 5 days before my 37th birthday

Ohyesiam · 21/12/2019 19:52

Caught first month at v the age of 37, same at 40 for the next one. Very fortunate.

Doilooklikeatourist · 21/12/2019 19:53

Added to above , don’t start now , wait til the honeymoon

Another geriatric over here Crown Wink. I think you should start trying if you can (and obviously if you don't mind being pregnant for your wedding). We started trying at 35, and I had DD one at 37 (so it took over a year). Although in saying that, I then got pregnant on the very first try the 2nd time round- age 39 (but I think you're more fertile after having a baby).

AshleyLr · 21/12/2019 19:57

Doilooklikeatourist thank you for the advice. Thats what I was thinking.
I think I just need to enjoy getting married then crack on with it 😂

Yes, I think it's easier to conceive second time around.
I am thinking maybe march time to start for the wedding in April.
I can't imagine managing to get pregnant within the first month.

At 36 (2 months off my 37th birthday) I conceived the first cycle we tried. At 40 it took me 5 cycles but the first one where we tracked ovulation which turned out to not be when I thought it was.

SpeckledyHen · 21/12/2019 20:01

Second month just before 39th birthday . First month the second time at 41 .

BooseysMom · 21/12/2019 20:01

Congratulations Flowers.. well we started ttc when i was about 38 and i knew i was pushing it but we were never in the right position to try earlier. I had 2 early mcs then a miracle happened and i had DS at just 3 months shy of 41! I didnt even realise i was pregnant until I was 3 months gone! We tried for another but not seriously and it never happened so DS is an only but very happy and content. Good luck x

I am using a fertility app. It's really good in the sense it tells you when you're at your most fertile.
I'm fortunate to not have any health issues and be very regular.
But who knows, it could be that my husband isn't fertile.
Women get so much pressure !

Congrats on the upcoming wedding. Everyone is very different, so its really an individual thing and no one knows how long or quick pregnancy might take. I personally wanted to be married before TTC. In hindsight, I wish I'd started sooner!

I started TTC age 34. GP refused any testing as I was 2 weeks off their guidelines for testing! Took 4yrs TTC with 1st pregnancy, but MC. A year later another MC. Now 41 and hoping to start IVF next month.

You may well be lucky and fall soon, but work out your priorities. If you were actually pregnant at your wedding, would that be so bad? Obviously you couldn't drink, but unless you were very pregnant, you may not even be showing. In your shoes, I'd start TTC maybe 2-4mths prior to the wedding. There is only a 1:5 chance each month anyways, but really depends how you'd feel if you were actually pregnant at the wedding? good luck x

Missmuck · 21/12/2019 20:02

36 and we tried once! Like literally x

GaraMedouar · 21/12/2019 20:03

I had first at 32, 2nd at 35 and 3rd at 42! All 3 took about 2 attempts to fall pregnant. So pretty quick . But I did have a couple of miscarriages too, one before my 2nd baby ( a late one and I had to have a D&C in hospital and wait a few months ), and I also had an early miscarriage before no.3. If I were you I’d start after Xmas with eating a healthy diet, taking folic acid etc up to the wedding so you’re ready to go on the honeymoon 😀

BringBiscuits · 21/12/2019 20:03

3m when 26
6m when 29
First time when 37

fishonabicycle · 21/12/2019 20:04

I think about 5-6 months - son was born just after I turned 36.

AshleyLr · 21/12/2019 20:05

Congratulations BooseysMom what fantastic news 😀

First at 34... took about 3 weeks after I stopped my depo which is apparently meant to take time to exit the system ... I'm not betting on the same for number 2 though, getting married May (congrats to u for the wedding!) and going to try for number 2 straight after and really hoping I can conceive again and 1 wasn't just luck! 36 now so I know I will have all the extra app for being old lol altho I was under special supervision anyways because of a kidney condition so I guess I'll be used to being in there all the time 🤦🏻‍♀️

BikeRunSki · 21/12/2019 20:07

First full cycle both times, at 37 and 40. I hadn’t been on hormonal contraception fir several years beforehand though.

Tonii1985 · 21/12/2019 20:09

18 months at 32, accidentally at 33, first try at 34.

SeasideThisChristmas · 21/12/2019 20:10

I fell pregnant very unexpectedly at 36 after a single contraception failure Shock.

Of my three closest friends - one got pregnant first month of trying at 35, another got pregnant almost as quickly at 36 (and again at 39) and the third got pregnant after a year of trying at 36.

I do have a friend who started trying at 36 and finally had her only child at 41 after 3 rounds of IVF. But I know people much younger who had the same fertility issues.

Crack on! And see a doctor if it doesn’t happen after a year. Lots of luck to you Flowers.

lilgreen · 21/12/2019 20:11

First try at 33.

Beetlebum1981 · 21/12/2019 20:11

Started trying for DC1 in the April, had two very early miscarriages in the July and Nov and then DC1 was conceived in late Dec - I was 34. We thought it might take longer when we decided to try for DC2 given my age (36) - I had the coil removed in the June and conceived pretty much immediately, DC2 was born in the March.

AshleyLr · 21/12/2019 20:12

Thanks Elouera that's sound advice.

I have a very figure hugging wedding dress but really don't care if ppl think I've had a big breakfast on my wedding day Smile So yeah, TTC is far more important.
I don't drink because I am intolerant....which is rubbish but everyone knows this so wouldn't suspect I was pregnant.
I think perhaps feb/march would be a good starting point.
It's such an unknown, maybe that's the issue.
I sorta wish we'd just got married on the sly and then got on with TTC but I'm so excited about getting married.
Society is tough on women. I feel like you can never get it quite right.
