Fibroids and TTC!

Hey everybody, I'm new to all of this but I'm looking for some advice!
I had a daughter nearly 4 years ago and although I wasn't actively TTC it still took 18 months of unprotected sex to fall with her.
I've been with my new partner for nearly 8 months now and we've both decided we'd love to have a baby together, we've been trying for about 6 months - by trying I mean DTD usually every other day or more frequent.
Since January I've been light bleeding between periods but when I have my periods they have become shorter and the clots have been pretty big (sorry I know tmi!) I've been in lots of pain with my pelvis for nearly the whole month - every month! I went to my docs who took full bloods and everything came back fine, so she sent me on my way for a transvaginal scan and an ultrasound, which showed I have a small uterine fibroid in the wall, which the Sonographer didn't think would affect my fertility, I'm waiting to see what my doctors next approach is but I'm looking for advice really...
Has anybody else had uterine fibroids and conceived? What should I try next? TIA! Grin

Hi @NicoleP95 - we're just giving your thread a bump in case there are any Mumsnetters on hand to give you some advice and support. Brew

Hi @NicoleP95 - I don't really have advice on fibroids - other than I have one and my gynecologist said its size (small) and positioning (back of womb) should have no impact on ttc (though I haven't yet conceived so who knows!). So maybe the pain is something else? I've had endometriosis for years and it was difficult to
diagnose as they can't do that properly without a laparoscopy but your pelvic pain sounds similar to what I used to have - maybe ask a doctor if that could be a possibility? Sorry I'm not a huge help but if a doctor has said the fibroid shouldn't cause you issues, perhaps look at what else it could be. Good luck x

Hi Nicole
My partner and I decided TTC January 2018, pregnant by March 2018. I was 35 at the time so I was elated that it happened so quickly.

First scan at 12 weeks showed our beautiful healthy baby and also revealed 2 uterine fibroids, one of significant size. My OB wasn’t too concerned as the big one was right at the top of my uterus and therefore out of the way. His main concern was that it would likely be hormone reactive - ie: it would grow and become more vascular the further along into my pregnancy I went. It most definitely got bigger through my pregnancy!

In the end it was absolutely no bother to either conceiving or carrying our son to term. It did prompt my OB to suggest an elective c section due to the risk of rupturing the fibroid from labour (and therefore resulting in a major haemorrhage), so to minimise the risk we did the section.

He said if we were to have more children in the future then the fibroid would need to be removed before TTC, which due to where the fibroid was, would be a reasonably significant surgery. As it happens, we only planned to have one child, in which case the fibroid stays where it is with no side effects. It’s since shrunk back to a negligible size since giving birth last November.

Good luck! Smile

Thankyou so much for your replies ladies☺️ I had my second lots of bloods done today so I will let you know the results the end of this week and what the doctor would like the next stage to be!
I'm praying I'm pregnant this month and I seem to be the worst for symptom spotting! My breasts are normally painful from ovulation right up until my period is due but they've only been sore for one day! And I've also had really bad heartburn but I've read mixed reviews on wether or not it's an early pregnancy symptom! What early symptoms did you have ladies? And thankyou for your answers to my fibroids, I don't think it's endometreosis as the pains and bleeding between periods have stopped, I had a strange 5 months but it seems to be settling again! Smile

I knew I was pregnant when I had sore boobs (unusual for me though), nausea, light headed and some light spotting (presumably implantation bleeding). I didn’t get heartburn until quite a bit later on.

How exciting, I’ve got everything crossed for you Smile

Larrydavid · 17/06/2019 21:20

I had a chemical pregnancy last month so am still
Ttc - for what it's worth - the only early symptoms I had last month were exhaustion and heartburn! The heartburn was the reason I bought a pregnancy test. Shame it didn't stick. Good luck - really hope you get your bfp this month!! And fingers crossed it's not endo.

NicoleP95 · 17/06/2019 22:32

AllyBamma I have been quite light headed but I'd say that's probably the only other thing, I didn't have any symptoms when I fell pregnant with my daughter 4 years ago but I also wasn't symptom spotting so I may have had some, but I know I 100% didn't have any nausea but they do say every pregnancy is different don't they so if I am lucky enough to have a BFP this month I can guarantee I'll get nausea this time around🤢

Larrydavid oh no that's such sad news, sorry to hear that but well done for carrying on TTC it must of took a lot of strength to try again! Hopefully you'll fall pregnant again soon and you'll have a happy and healthy pregnancy! 💗

When I had my first scan with DC1 (conceived on month one, age 35) the ultrasound person mentioned a fibroid, took a pic of it and then it was never mentioned again. When I had DC2, 2 years later ( aged 37, 3rd month of trying) it was never mentioned at all. So I had no problems with it in either pregnancy and it was definitely still there as I’ve just had it removed 10yrs later as it was causing all sorts of problems.

Best of luck!

NicoleP95 · 18/06/2019 13:51

@Piffpaffpoff thankyou for sharing your story, I really hope they don't affect my chances of conceiving too! I'm so hopeful for this month but I know I'll be gutted if I am not, on the plus side I've normally got my moody pre menstrual symptoms by now but I don't and I am still feeling happy!
