Anyone successfully lengthened luteal phase with clomid and got pregnant?

Hi. I've just been prescribed clomid because I have a luteal phase of between 7 - 9 days. I'm due to start taking the tablets in a couple of weeks time and was really positive about it until about 2 days ago when I read that only about 65% of women who take clomid get pregnant. I have ds 2 who was conceived 2nd month of ttc so was really shocked when I discovered my cycle had changed so much. I need some success stories to get me feeling positive again. Also any advice on best time to take tablets would be appreciated. By the way I'm starting on the lowest dose (50mg) and am having regular blood tests and mid cycle scans. Please help

Hi
I got pregnant by taking clomid.
I'm not sure that my luteal phase was too short, but I know that I wasn't ovulating properly, despite having periods.
Anyway, I was prescribed clomid for it.
I took one pill a day for 5 days from the 5th day of my period. (if I remember correctly)
That didn't seem to have the desired effect, so the dose was doubled to two pills a day, one morning and one night. I got pregnant the first cycle on that dosage.
DD is now 6 months old.
I've seen other posts on this site talking about blood tests and scans when using clomid.
I was given neither. I used ovulation kits to check for myself when I was fertile.
The doctor was only interested in whether my next period arrived, therefore necessitating the next dose.

Thanks Ruthchan. Did you get any side effects?

ME ... similar luteal phase defect was ov on day 23

first cycle

50mg x 5 days from day 1 of period

conceived DD

didn't have any tests or scans whilst on it, it didn't bring my ovulation forward at all but patently extended luteal phase sufficiently for me to conceive. I was told it isn't cumulative btw

was told that when you're pg your hormones get thrown up in the air and they land any which way afterwards so conceiving DS1 within 2 months had no bearing on secondary infertility

any questions please ask

I had a bit of a panic attack when I swallowed my first pill because I'd read too much - an online friend talked me out of sticking my finger down my throat

I had NO side-effects at all

buttercupbabe · 30/05/2007 16:05

Thanks twiglett. I'm just feeling so stressed about it as really want ds to have a little brother or sister.
I've been told to take the clomid days 2-6. I'm glad you told me about the panic attack - you can worry yourself stupid over stuff that you read. Did you just bd every other day and did you use ovulation sticks or temp to check ovulation? Also bit of a personal one I've read it can dry up ewcm. I currently get a lot (so so sorry if tmi) and am worried in case that is affected. I'd really appreciate any advice

just something for you tothink about only 25% of women ttc manage it every month and only 75% in a year so 65% is bloody good!

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 30/05/2007 16:08

oh and good luck

Twiglett · 30/05/2007 16:18

Yes BD every other day (on consultant's advice)

used Clearview OPKs from Boots

had no impact on CM as far as I could tell .. but then I was lucky enough to conceive on first cycle of using it .. but it is low dosage so I wouldn't expect side effects really

buttercupbabe · 30/05/2007 16:25

Thanks girls. I'm feeling much more positive.
I hadn't thought of it that way little soldier (cute name!) but your right.
I think the last few months ttc and waiting to see specialist and then getting the prescription has caught up on me. I was thinking back to how nice it was ttc ds and so I'm going to try and be just as positive for ttc this next one.

good luck butter hopefully this month will be the one for both of us x

buttercupbabe · 30/05/2007 18:21

Good luck to you 2 little soldier. Have you been trying long?

Are there supposed to be side effects?
I had no problems at all and didn't know that there could be.

I had been taking my temperature every day for a couple of years before that anyway, so I continued to do that and, when I thought ovulation was close, I used ovulation strips too.
Taking the larger dose clearly worked for me because DD was concieved immediately.
I hope I won't need it next time, but if I have problems I'll certainly take it again.

Good luck buttercup!!

Thanks all of you who have replied. Anyone else out there that's had a short lp lengthened by clomid?
Hi Anniemac the way my gp diagnosed me and then referred me was the result of a blood test taken 7 days after ovulation. It showed a progesterone level of less than 30. Good luck

Yes a few months ago before I realised my lp was so short I used the boots own opk's but never got a positive because they ran out by the time my late ovulation was happening. So the following month I bought loads from zoombaby on the net and tested and tested until I got a positive a lot later in the cycle than I had thought that I would. The only thing I would say about the cheap opk's is that the following month I tested and tested and only got very faint lines and not a positive - but that could be my cycle being strange. I also started temperature charting which has been invaluable. My gynae however does not like temp charts and has told me to stop which I may well do when I start on the clomid. The charts have been really useful and my gp was interested too. Sorry this has turned into a very long message I'll shut up now!

I seem to be in same boat anniemac re: cycle length (25ish days) and LP. I am charting temps again this month (have been lazy before though it worked when conceiving dd four years ago) and have some OPKs and am hoping to nail down ovulation day (think it's CD16). Had blood test late last year and all was OK, though I am now wondering if my progesterone was on the low side. It was weird because when I was called by dr's office to say blood result was in they said doc needed to see me as one aspect was not right and then when I saw her she said there were no probs. I asked about short LP and she seemed to think there was no prob but now I am not convinced that I had the 'right' answer. So this month I am going to chart, bd every other day until ov, bd every day for a few days at crucial time and then see how things go. Also am taking 100mg B6 (in a B complex).

Interestingly, the BBC prog last week about having a baby busted a few of DH's myths about TTC so he is now onboard with my 'methods' and that will hopefully help. He just thinks lots of sex should do the trick but seems oblivious to the fact that it needs to be timed to an exact point in the month! Have been TTC on and off for the last two years.

Anniemac, had probs TTC dd and went for initial investigations at IVF clinic (incl lap and dye) - all was tickity boo (consultant basically implied nicely that we needed to try more at the right time! not helped by dh being away a lot at the time) and once I started charting I conceived quite quickly. Will be going to dr with demands for consultant referral (private probably) if we give it a good three months of charting/trying methodically (oh the romance). TBH, I thought I had it sorted after all my trials with conceiving dd but have got into bad habits and can't claim to have been TTC actively every month for two years but am starting to get a bit anxious now given my age (37.5) and I still think I am definitely not an easy conceiver given that I have been off pill since May 2001 and in that time have had one pg (thankfully it resulted in dd).

newkid · 26/06/2007 12:17

Anniemac, just read about your cramping. could you have endo?
