Anyone want to join me in a get healthy for ttc thread?

Hello! I've been ttc for #2 for 5 months and had an early miscarriage in March. My cycles are a bit all over the place and my BMI is probably nearing 28. I eat too much chocolate and not enough fruit and veg. I also don't do enough exercise. I need to sort myself out a bit!

Anyone want to join me for a bit of motivation? Anyone got some good tips to kick me up the bum to actually do this?

@seven201 I'm down! I'm soooo the same. Such a sweet tooth. Don't think I'm overweight but I feel I'm the biggest I've been! X

seven201 · 29/05/2018 14:33

Yay! Welcome. We can do this. It's for a very good reason.

@seven201 it's my first time trying and first cycle and I feel I'm getting obsessed 😂😂

seven201 · 29/05/2018 14:59

Ha! That obsessed feeling will probably only get worse! I am obsessed but somehow this doesn't translate into me making healthy choices Hmm

If it helps your heads it took me over 3yrs to fall pregnant with my first and when I finally did fall pregnant I was a stone heavier than when we first started trying. Still a healthy BMI but I think my body needed to know it could sustain a baby if that makes sense? Good luck!

seven201 · 29/05/2018 16:12

Good point. I think everyone has their own healthy weight. I think I need to lose a stone and eat more of a healthy balance too.

I'm in! Recently got married and have put up a stone and a half since Blush Went on my first walk last night and going again this evening when I'm home from work. What else are you planning on doing? The chocolate in the evenings gets me!!

seven201 · 29/05/2018 18:50

I think I'm going to start couch to 5k again or maybe just go walking. My issue is snacking and puddings and just being lazy in the evenings once dd is in bed. I've got to get out of the habit of having a chocolate bar or two at work and then some kind of pudding after dinner. If I don't have any biscuits in I end up making them! My will power is shit. I don't want to go for some radical diet as that's not sustainable for me and I'm not in 'the zone' for it mentally either. I'm also a stress eater. Today I was out with my 2 year old dd, sister and her kids - we got completely drenched and it was just a stressful disaster. When we went to a cafe for lunch I somehow ordered a hot choc with cream, macaroni cheese and a brownie! Such stupid stupid choices. And the macaroni cheese wasn't even nice. Meal wise we eat ok usually, it's just chocolate and stress/comfort eating.

I blame the honeymoon for your weight gain. Of course you should eat and drink as much as you like on honeymoon!

Oooo interesting post! I'm not overweight but I do need to eat healthier andwoukdnt mind exercising more! Anyone got any good recipes to share? I made a lovely coconut and lentil dahl the other night. Funnily enough (call it a coincidence) last time I fell pregnant I was only eating meal on weekends and eating a lot more veg in the week

seven201 · 29/05/2018 23:09

Welcome daisy! I am a very boring cook so don't have any good recipes really. I do eat too much meat. Have you got a good filling veg curry recipe at all?

Interesting topic. Any supplements worth taking now to prepare for future TTC. I am already taking a multi vit. with folate.

I am about two years away from TTC but have had very heavy, painful and irregular periods so would like to start working on getting my body running properly and healthy now.

rdm10 · 29/05/2018 23:30

I was thinking the very same thing today. I don’t do any exercise and I’m the biggest I’ve been in a long time (if not ever)

My problem is every month I think I need to start exercising then quickly move onto ‘well there’s no point because I might get pregnant this month and you can’t can’t start something new when pregnant’ so I don’t bother!? But it’s been 4 months now so I really could have started something in that time!

Anyone know any forms of exercise that are safe for total beginners if pregnant (if it ever happens)?

Kescilly · 29/05/2018 23:32

I'm in! I've had a difficult time exercising for various health reasons but I am determined to be more active. I bought a Fitbit so that I at least walk more, even if it's just around the house. It's actually helping so far and I've walked five miles today.

I love Skinnytaste for healthy recipes that actually taste good.

seven201 · 30/05/2018 00:10

Rose water, sorry don't know me ch about supplements. I do know that the trying for a baby ones in a lilac packet lengthen my already long cycles, so I just go for the standard folic acid now. Good idea to get healthy in advance!

Ram that's exactly what I do. It took me about 9 months to get pregnant with dd and it only happened not long after I'd finally started exercising - jogging in my case. I think the general rule is to just take up anything new once pregnant and to not push yourself too hard. That's why I did couch 25k as it gradually builds up.

You've reminded me that I own a Fitbit! Another thing I did when I got pregnant with dd! Must dig it out. Thanks for the recipes tip.

Ruth Crilly from A Model Recommends recently posted a youtube video about her fertility journey, she was very honest about her struggles and how getting healthy helped her to get pregnant. It is what made me think about working on my health now so I know at least that is working for me.

seven201 · 30/05/2018 12:05

I'll take a look at that, thanks.

Hey everyone, brand new here and literally just started TTC! Also feeling my heaviest and easily have a stone to lose to feel happier and fitter. Have been taking fruit with me as snacks for work and drinking loads of water. I find I snack when i’m bored mainly so have been making a big effort to drink water instead. Not because I think it will fill me up but because it gives me something to do rather than reaching for a snack when i’m not actually even hungry! Other than that have started on Superdrug pregnancy vitamins and have been walking every day in my lunch break and whenever I can otherwise. I second that on the jogging front!! Keep thinking “oh if I start and then fall pregnant I would probably give up anyway” haha. Need to get my bum in gear and just get on with it as I know rationally it could be months (or longer gulp) before anything happens on the baby front! How are you all coping with the total unknown as to when you might fall? Especially if you’re trying for the first time. I’m desperately trying not to get my hopes up!

seven201 · 30/05/2018 21:29

Crossed to the dark side, welcome! You've got off to a good start.

I'm going to officially start being healthy from Tuesday. I know I should do it now/tomorrow but I have lots on for the next few days and I'm feeling pissed off that my cycle is still not back to anywhere near normal after my mc in March - I'm On cd 29 and still not ovulated Angry.

OP posts:
seven201 · 30/05/2018 21:32

To answer your question about coping with not knowing when you're going to fall pregnant. I guess it's different for everyone. I am impatient but try and keep perspective that I have a good life and really there's no big hurry. I don't listen to myself often.

OP posts:
CrossedToTheDarkSide · 31/05/2018 06:30

Seven201 thank you! Feeling positive and like you said trying to keep it all in perspective. I’m happy with everything else in life and fulfilled and only had a very vague timeline of when it would be “nice” to have started a family by. So as you said there’s no hurry and trying to keep reminding myself that life has to go on if nothing happens right away.
So sorry to hear about your mc. I literally just came off cerrazette so no periods for the last few years which I know means it might take a while for things to get back to normal although nurse assured me that as soon as I come off it my fertility is unaffected. It’s such a waiting game!

seven201 · 31/05/2018 14:57

Crossedtothedarkside. Glad you're feeling positive and I hope your cycles settle quickly after coming off the pill.

I've decided to start being 'less bad' (I'm not going to go as far as saying healthy!) today. Which is not easy when you eat lunch in a soft play cafe Confused. I did not buy cake!! I'm hoping to go for a walk tonight if it's not bucketing down.

How's everyone else doing?

OP posts:
seven201 · 02/06/2018 15:28

Today I weighed myself (11 st 5.6, BMI 27.4) and have started using my fitness pal app. I'm setting myself the goal of losing 0.5lb a week as I want to be realistic and not set myself up to fail.

Anyone else want to share their stats, progress, plan, anything?
