TTC after a M/C - is it possible to ovulate when there is HCG in your system?

Hi all,

This is the first time I have ever posted (on anything) but I recently had a miscarriage (D&C 2 weeks ago) and want to try and get pregnant as soon as possible :) I hoped someone out there in a similar situation might be able to help :)
A week after the D&C I had a transvaginal u/s to say all was clear (no clots/ remains etc.
My husband works abroad so we started trying again this weekend ( 2 weeks exactly after D&C). The next day I got a positive OKP and 4 hrs later it was negative and again the next morning. I took this as a positive sign but the following day I had a positive pg test (and again this morning) with faint blue line. I guess this means that I have some amount of HCG left in my system. But what Id like to know is has anyone gotten pregnant when they were still testing positive for HCG ?

Yep! Feeling tearful. Was ready to start moving on and accepting that it's on its way down.
I'm sure my Af will bring it down. Hope it's comes when predicted.

Hopefully it will!! Fingers crossed for you! I am almost 6 weeks post d&c and 8 weeks since finding out I'd m/c'd and still no AF so I can understand the frustration. I think that if its taking too long however, the dr can give you something to kick start it again.

I'm back on this because I am so up and down at the minute. Just back from the dr where I had a HCG test done. Results due Friday. The reason they did the draw was because had been having AF symptoms but it hasnt showed and lastnight I did 3 PG tests. All positive. It says they measure 20 HCG and above (last HCG last week as only 9.5).

Such a rollercoaster!! I dont want to get my hopes up... but at the same time I already have and then suddenly I think dont get them up!! My mood is soo bad!

So really, I am just having a rant (sorry!!). And also sending hugs to the rest of you who are also maybe not having the best time xx

Oh I'm so with you this am. Feeling so miserable too. Hoping it's only pms- but boy have I got it bad!
Friday is only two sleeps. They may even be back tomorrow. Mine are usually 24hrs so worth phoning to check?!
Forcing myself to get on with stuff today. If only the to do list wasn't so dull but I can't even be bothered to anything remotely fun either.

@Faithandlove what a crazy outcome. Are the lines dark? Maybe if you're questioning it, do a clear blue digital. They're 50mui. So would possibly give you how many weeks. If it's high enough to register that, it could be a new pregnancy. If it's says not pregnant, as harsh as those words on the screen are, it would give you a bit of a heads up for what's to come. If it was 9 last week Tuesday, they should be around 200ish (from memory they roughly double every two days)
I have everything crossed for you that this is a miracle may baby!!

@L1zz13 so sorry your struggling. Be kind to yourself. I didn't do anything for weeks after my mc. Much to the annoyance of everyone else around me. But I only did what I felt like. Sending hugs

Ya I actually think the 9 last week was the roll off from the last pregnancy :/ - Stragely optimistic that I ovulated c.5th may (had bad pains in my side and also had a posotive OKP) and that this could be a new one... just dont feel right.. but lets see ! Friday cant come quick enough!! Will let ye know though! :)

@L1zz13 - agree with @Cakelaur.. you should take some time to yourself if your're not feeling 100%.. I think its normal to have good and bad days and all the waiting around and the hormones don't help us!

@faithandlove i have my fingers crossed for you but either way if its not a new pregnancy then atleast you can start to sort your hormones out with the hospitals help and then be onto a road to getting back to normal.

@l1zz13 im really feeling your pain! Ive had enough and im only 1st cycle after mc!

My opks are still all over the place so im not relying on them this month! Patiently waiting for AF as im now CD32. Not having fun.

Just said I would check in and see how everyone is doing? @L1zz13, hope you're feeling a bit better this week? any movement on your levels?

I got my AF on Friday, so no new pg but I'm actually fine with that, just glad it came in the end! I got a negative HCG on the friday morning (from wed blood draw) and literally within two hrs of hearing this my AF came.. I honestly think its because my body relaxed or something.

So anyways, it seems that your AF comes very quickly after the HCG drops to 0 i.e within a couple of days. I guess in this case, I didnt actually ovulate this month..

Fingers crossed for next month. :)

Im on cd39, first one after mc. Negative pregnancy test so just patiently waiting for AF still! I dont think I ovulated this month either xx

So my AF arrived! CD2 for me, definitely didnt ovulate... hope that I do this cycle.

hi @Tayel !! Oh I am so glad you finally got your AF! It is such a long wait isnt it! It also too me 42 days to get it! But hopefully you feel some relief now that youve gotten it.. I really did!
I am now on cd 12 and stated using okps on sat (cd 8) and on cd9 got flashing smiley (still on day 4 of flashing smiley but have EWCM so am hopeful).
One thing I will say though, not sure how long your cycles were before the mc but mine were very long (avg 33 days with ov on day 19) but my friend who had two m/cs warned me my cycle lenght could change after m/c and judging on okps and ewcm it appears she could be right.. hers went from 28 days to 21. Food for thought!
Hope your AF wasnt too painful and doesnt last too long so you can get back on track and start tracking ov :)

Im going to start the opks pretty early, maybe cd6 or cd7 just so i can keep track and see what they are doing.

My period is normally 5 or 6 days and not sure how long to expect this one to last for! Hoping not too long.

@Tayel yes, still flashing this morning 6 days later so two days ago I actually bought the non digital ones to use as well as the the CB driving is driving me mad and I have read so many mixed reviews about them (people having 10 days of flashing, no solid and still getting pg etc- i am doing them twice a day and they are costing a fortune).
Anyways, faint line on regular okp two days ago (which means neg for LH surge), then slighly darker yest and then much darker this morning (but not exactly as dark as control line like its meant to be) but then I got these awful pains in my left side (and very bad pelvic pains) - very sharp!. I tested again straight after the pain in my side subsided with Opk and the line has faded again.. weird.... hoping I did ov. we'll see anyways!
Now begins the dreaded 2ww! :)

Anyways enough about me, how about you? hows the testing going? which okps are you using? :)

@faithandlove sounds like you did O but perhaps just missed it with the opks!

I used the cheapy opks and they seem to work fine for me (before the mc they were spot on!)

Im cd 6 and think today will be end of AF then ill start opks early just so I have a whole track of them.

Hi @Tayel ! So nice of you to check in! Am... well I am getting a bit impatient! :L reading far too much into everything. Thought I had a very very very faint line on a first response yesterday BUT i think I am imagining it! :L I think its an evap line and I am only 8dpo. No major symptoms either - BB are a bit sore (but nothing like last time ) and I have (TMI sorry- ) alot of white CM.

See! Reading into everything too much! I think I have gotten my hopes up too much! :L

Im cd15 and still no positive opk.. not even a faint line but i got my positive opk on cd17 when I got pregnant so hoping it will just surge nearer cd17 x

I had a mc and 2 weeks after MC bleeding stopped I had AF. Definitely not the MC as everything was gone. Didn’t get my next AF as I was pregnant again and she’s 10 next month.

What I do remember is the absolute yearning need to be pregnant again. Hope it happens soon for you OP and anyone else waiting. It’s a horrible time but it does pass.

@faithandlove i finally got my positive opk last night! Very late as it was cd20 and normally get it at cd17 so im now in tww!

So sorry for your loss, dear. There is no word to tell you how bad I feel about this situation. I know the feeling of going through this. I had m/c last week. I’m glad my dh was there with me. Started bleeding on mon. It was really painful (emotionally). That would have been our 1st baby. We’ve been trying for 7 yrs. Finally got pregnant (through IVF) but I lost it. It hurts me so much. But I’m not losing any hope. Hopefully next time it will be a successful one. I want to ttc right away… But I don’t know when my af will come. I know you need also to grieve.
