TTC after a M/C - is it possible to ovulate when there is HCG in your system?

Hi all,

This is the first time I have ever posted (on anything) but I recently had a miscarriage (D&C 2 weeks ago) and want to try and get pregnant as soon as possible :) I hoped someone out there in a similar situation might be able to help :)
A week after the D&C I had a transvaginal u/s to say all was clear (no clots/ remains etc.
My husband works abroad so we started trying again this weekend ( 2 weeks exactly after D&C). The next day I got a positive OKP and 4 hrs later it was negative and again the next morning. I took this as a positive sign but the following day I had a positive pg test (and again this morning) with faint blue line. I guess this means that I have some amount of HCG left in my system. But what Id like to know is has anyone gotten pregnant when they were still testing positive for HCG ?

@cakelaur congratulations to you! Youre right im going to try and not stress or otherthink it too much (if thats even possible!)

I think i should count my cd1 as the day they removed the sac which would mean im on cd9 because it was only after than i started to get back to normal which hopefully means ovulation next week

@Tayel thanks babe. Have you done an hpt? I ovulated a week after my negative hpt. Af showed up 2 weeks after that. Good luck.

My AF would be due on Sunday ( based on 31 day cycle ) however , today ( 27 dp d and c) , despite neg pg tests for the last 4 days today I have once again recieved a faint positive ! I’ve attached pics from
Yest and today ! I don’t want to get my hopes up that this could be a new pregnancy .. but what do ye think? If the app was correct re my ov date that would make me only 10 dp ov... has anyone had a similar experience! I don’t want to get my hopes up as one I couldn’t be this fortunate ! And 2 I think its prob just hormone after m/c!! Xxx

Thanks @Cakelaur - yes, its defo a pos but I had a negative on a digital one this morning ( I understand the threshold for HCG is higher) but still.. and I also had my first solid smiley face on the advanced digital following 5 days of flashing smileys. ( I had a solid on the non advanced on the 3rd). I had a very strong line in the OKP window. I have read this is also a sign of pg..
I will continue to test over the next few days and see if the lines on the pg tests become stronger or more faint and will let you know!

@cakelaur I have negative hcg test, i think as this is straight after mc im all over the place! Still negative on opks for now but I need to be patient even if that means AF arrives to then start again

Sitting here a bit baffed by my opk progress! Maybe I wont ovulate after the mc? (First opk on the sheet that kinda looks positive is straight after the mc so im thinking thats just showing as a false positive)

Thanks look a little like mine did. I started testing about 10 days after mc
I have a feeling I have O'd at all yet despite having my Af.

@l1zz13 its so confusing! If I wasnt so determined to try this month I would have been tempted to give up the opk’s until after AF but im going to carry on since ive started and im now quite intrigued!

Re your comments on the OKPs - so an update from my side (which may or may not shed some light on the above). Firstly I am unfortunately not pregnant ( the positives got stronger and then went neg again at the weekend. HCG blood draw on Tuesday showed 9.5 so obviously the last bits are still there so needless to say no AF. I have to go back again in 2 weeks.Worried I may have had a very early MC again (but will possibly never know).

If not - I had countless negatives and positives OKPs in the weeks after the MC and so unfortunately, I am not sure about their reliability in the month after a MC. There is possibly jjust too many hormones swimming around :( and the tests dont know what they are picking up... This makes it very stressful so I can empathise with you being completely baffled and sorry you have to go through this!!

Im thinking that once our cycle normalises we will have more reliable results :) I drove myself demented the past 5 weeks (I have spent no less than 300e on tests! - so I have decided to take a break :L :L )

Hi. I've also taken loads of OPKs and the by accident I did a hcg test. It was positive. No way this is a new pg so have I got my dr to do a blood test.
It was 35! Had another today to check it.
Come to the conclusion it's been a total waste of time doing the opks!
Will just leave them till my hcg is normal

Its so annoying to hear isnt it @L1zz13 after putting all the money and time into taking them to hear they are a complete wase when your body is not back to normal!

Hopefully your HCG comes down soon and the clock will reset! Also praying the same!

I bought a basal thermometer today (to start next month after my AF arrives) and bulk ordered Pg tests on Amazon. If this is going to take a while I need to be more clever about it and stop wasting 20e a day on tests :L lol!

I think I am going to temp in future instead of the OKPs...

Looks like im in the crazy opk club then as mine are still very random and never positive.

Do you think you can still ovulate even if the opk cant detect it?

Really hoping the hcg sorts itself out for both of you soon! I done one a few days ago and it was negative but it wouldnt suprise me if i end up having similar circumstances to you both as I just dont think my hormones are normal.

Ive been doing cheapy opk from poundland, 5 for £1 but when doing 2 or more a day over a whole month every month will still add up!

I just don't know.

I'm so glad I've had blood tests done.
I feel as if I'm in a bit more control and understand what's is going on.

My second result will be ready to collect on Monday and I'm hoping that will help me further.

I guess in black and white basic biology.... hcg tells your body your pg. while pregnant the natural cycle (I.e periods and ovulation) is told to stop and support a growing baby.

Now all people are different. But if you think about it would be common knowledge amongst us if a normal cycle resumes quickly for most after mc as we wouldn't have to be searching for hope and answers. The likelihood is that it takes a while. Long enough for your normal cycle to resume and become familiar once more.
In be mean time blood tests are super useful as a guide ( if you can convince your dr to order one) and lots of shagging. Save the opks and bbting until a natural cycle resumes.

If my second AF arrives in the predicted time I may start opks again. Otherwise I will just keep shagging until I'd feel a cycle pattern has reestablished.

@Tayel defo look on amazing. You can buy about 100opk for £10ish. And cheap hpt too. (Although they're not as sensitive as frer) they're cheap to pee on!! Haha

Sorry to hear that! It really is such a rollercoaster! Mine was 9.5 last tuesday but have no blood test scheduled again untill next Tuesday
