So I have had a few issues recently due to suffering with PCOS. My husband and I were planning on TTC at the end of the year but decided to bring it forward. We had unprotected sex a couple of days ago and all day today I have felt really nauseous and had sore breasts. Could this be a sign so early on? They arent symptoms I usually suffer with with anything else

TIA

I've just posted a thread asking the same thing.

I've been feeling sick constantly for 2 days now, I'm 7dpo.

But I've not got sore breasts Confused

Apparently others have said they have had symptoms very early

Moxska · 30/03/2018 23:31

Yeah I had seen a couple. Its a tough one for me as I have been having very very irregular bleeding (until recently it was non stop which I have been trying to manage) so I don't have any clue as to when my period or ovulation would be! Like I said super irregular for me to feel sick especially for a whole day xx

Symptoms in your tww are not indicative of pregnancy. They are simply progesterone related. If people say they had symptoms that early and ended up being pregnant, it’s purely coincidental. Actual pregnancy symptoms don’t start until you are around 4-5 weeks (I can vouch for that as I’ve been pregnant twice in the past and didn’t get pregnancy symptoms until I was 5 weeks both times) Although biologically speaking, any tww symptoms are NOT related to pregnancy but to rising progesterone levels, that doesn’t mean you won’t be pregnant. You won’t know either way until you miss a period and get a positive test.

Just to add also, it is very common to experience “new” symptoms that aren’t normal for you and for them to mean nothing. Before I started ttc, I never had sore boobs between ovulation and my period. Since I started ttc, I have had sore boobs in my tww most months. Some months I have no symptoms. Other months I have symptoms that are a little different like nausea, headaches, cramping etc. I’ve not been pregnant this whole time. Just another perspective. Loads of symptoms and a lack of symptoms AND totally “unusual” symptoms across 18 months and not been pregnant at all in that time. You’d also be very surprised at how psychosomatic symptoms can be when you are ttc. I honestly wouldn’t read too much into any symptoms you’re having, normal or not, until you get a positive test. Good luck :)

I have PCOS too - when I had DD2 last year I first thought I might be pregnant from symptoms (nausea and dizziness, nearly fainted) at 4+3 and tested at 4+5, working back from the dating scan. It was December and I hadn't had a period since the previous June.

MustBeThursday · 31/03/2018 07:27

Sorry so that would have been about 2-3 weeks after conception?

MaverickSnoopy · 31/03/2018 07:47

@Bubblegum89 I well believe what you are saying and in previous pregnancies I never had any symptoms in the tww.

This pregnancy has been different though. Very much not planned pregnancy. Condoms used and no accidents. Only had sex once so know when I fell pregnant. Last period on 3rd Jan on a 26 day cycle. Sex on 12th Jan. 99% sure I ovulated on 17th Jan as I had horrific stabby pains, so much so that I took paracetamol and had hot water bottle. Then on 22nd Jan I woke up with sore boobs but shrugged it off.
Later the same day I was walking past someone smoking and I was sick at the smell (this happened in my first pregnancy). At this point though I did not think pregnancy at all. It was literally the furthest thing from my mind. I just assumed I had a bug. The next day I couldn't physically walk because I had a stabby pain down my left leg (I've suffered from pgp and sciatica in previous pregnancies and even had post natal physio until youngest was 8 months or so - physio told me that if I fell pregnant again I would most likely get it from the start of pregnancy). Over the next few days it got progressively worse. It was at this point coupled with nausea that came in waves (9am - 3pm religiously) that I wondered if I could be pregnant. I was exhausted and falling asleep at 7pm every night so on 27th Jan I took a test and it was positive.

I don't get it. Pregnancy was genuinely the last thing on my mind. Could my symptoms have really been psychosomatic? Fwiw they stayed the same up until last week (I'm now 12 weeks).

@MustBeThursday I am so new sorry what does 4+3 mean? Thankyou for your reply also it ks reasurring to know other people with PCOSs experiences as fertility was the first thing I was worried about

Thankyou everyone else for replies also!

The reason we decided to start early is cause we realised it may take longer it would be pretty amazing if we went and got it first time!

I've just woken up and symptoms are still there including cramps now.really have no idea when I should test as I don't have a clear scope of my cycle

I stopped taking the mini pill as it made me really low and also a specialist (not the person who put me on it) said that if I was having issues with constant bleeding that actually the pill probably wouldn't help cause it just makes a load of mucus.

I think cause the bleeding went in for so long I was desperate and didnt give metformin enough time to work out so Im now just in that and levothyroxin for my underactive thyroid

Wellthisunexpected · 31/03/2018 08:43

I'm on the pill so don't actually know how far along I am, but based on the deed, I'd say 3weeks 6 days. And I'm already a bag of symptoms. Which trying to hide it on a narrow boat holiday with the in laws is very difficult! Im tired, I'm nauseous, the works. I'm sure it wasn't this early last time!

Moxska · 31/03/2018 09:00

@Wellthisisunexpected Congrats!!! And good luck with the hiding at least you can claim sea sickness? Well river sickness!

Sorry! 4 weeks and 3 days pregnant - so if I'd had normal 28 day cycle my period would have been 3 days late.

I was having regular-ish cycles when I had DD1 after having problems on the progesterone only pill, but was averaging maybe 2 a year between pregnancies and had been told I wouldn't conceive again without treatment as I wasn't ovulating (clearly not entirely true!).

Moxska · 31/03/2018 10:39

@MustBeThursday ahh that makes sense thankyou!

I was essentially bleeding for the majority of 6 months (few days off here and there) its recently averaged 2 weeks on 1 week off which is a pain and I dont believe the 2 weeks is entirely period bleeding if that makes sense so I have no idea where in my cycle I am its a real pain!

Its been 4 days since we had sex and I had a little spotting this morning super faint so who knows

Moxska · 31/03/2018 12:29

Side note probably asking for TMI but what does implantation bleeding normally look like? Like Ive said I have had on and off bleeding for a very very long time so not sure how to tell the difference!

OP posts:
Jaxtellerswife · 31/03/2018 12:30

For me it was just a small amount once when wiping. Good luck

MrsDx · 31/03/2018 12:40

My symptoms didn’t properly start until I was about 8 weeks. In previous months I was convinced I was pregnant because of various symptoms but they meant nothing. Horrible but two days after dtd you simply couldn’t have any symptoms yet. But good good good luck xx

Moxska · 31/03/2018 16:26

Yeah I know its probably just wishful thinking since ive been fretting about how my PCOS might impact us trying and I was just like well have we just gone and done it first time? Wooo haha

But I shall just give it time

Wellthisunexpected · 31/03/2018 18:54

My iplantation bleed with dc1 was just one wipe of brown blood. This pregnancy it was much more- I genuinely thought it was the first day of my period/ breakthrough bleeding and needed a pad.

NimbleKnitter · 01/04/2018 09:17

You won't have symptoms 4 days after unprotected sex - it takes a good few days for the fertilised egg to travel down the Fallopian tubes.

It usually reaches your uterus from 6 days after ovulation, and implantation occurs in the window between 6-11 days after ovulation (usually 7 to 9).

It's only at this point that your body recognises the pregnancy. It sends a signal to keep progesterone levels high, to sustain the pregnancy.

V early 'symptoms' are caused by high progesterone, which rises in every cycle when you ovulate. If symptoms stay for longer than you would expect, that could be an indication that implantation has occurred.

You could skis try measuring your basal body temperature. Progesterone makes your temperature rise, so if your temperature stays high, that could be a sign.

But by the time you notice these, a sensitive pregnancy test should be able to pick it up

Fruitbat1980 · 01/04/2018 09:20

I literally felt woozy and crap within 48 hours. I tested after 6 days and got a faint positive. Good luck.

NimbleKnitter · 01/04/2018 09:24

Woozy and crap is a progesterone symptom, not a pregnancy one (I got it every single month when I ovulated, I even passed out in the shower).

It is not possible to tell after 48 hours. A hospital blood test couldn't even pick it up.

Emma198 · 01/04/2018 09:26

I felt very sick 8 and 9 dpo. Got a positive test 10dpo.

Hopehope20 · 01/04/2018 11:35

I had sore nipples about 3dpo!

Moxska · 01/04/2018 16:47

Yeah deffo get its super early. Just cause everything has been irregular for so long im trying to work out whats going on haha

I still feel sick today and heavier spotting, i was on the progesterone only pill so maybe my body is working that out and thats what is happening!

OP posts:
NimbleKnitter · 01/04/2018 17:21

I was on the progesterone only pill for an age and I think that's what's caused my progesterone sensitivity - I used to get ovulation sickness when I ovulated and then hormonal migraines when my progesterone levels fell.

I also got super bad hyperemesis when I got pregnant.

Here's hoping you dodge that!

I took a fish oil supplement and inositol - that seemed to help.

Good luck x

Moxska · 01/04/2018 17:33

@NimbleKnitter that sounds awful! I was only on it for 2 months so hopefully it didnt affect me too much!

MustBeThursday · 02/04/2018 19:04

@Moxska I read that chromium can help to regulate cycles in PCOS. I had actually started taking a supplement with it in about 6 weeks before I conceived. Could be coincidence though! It was the boots conception vitamin that I found it in.
