So I’ve been ttc over a year have taken various pregnancy tests always nothing.
Today I got this....
Is it just yet another cruel taunt in my journey? It’s a sainburys teat notoriously crap I know but I’ve never got that before.
It was my evening urine held for about 4 hours.

I still think you are pregnant! The tests at the hospital are wayyy less sensitive than frer! Leave it a couple of days and retest, I'm sure you'll have a nice strong line then! I had pink spotting at the start of my pregnancy and have had it throughout so far and everything is progressing well

alwaysontimeneverlate · 28/02/2018 18:17

Also had spotting in very early pregnancy with ds1, in fact I though it was a period just a light one, it wasn't ds1 is 10 this year!

Thirtyrock39 · 28/02/2018 18:50

Nhs pregnancy tests are often recommended for use a week after your period is due so definitely not accurate early
I don't think you need to go to your gp yet though . I think when you're about 6 weeks along
Good luck

Cupcakesandlove · 28/02/2018 19:53

You can see how light the tests are so I knew it would be negitive but I’ve looked online and it said a chemical is confirmed by a blood test, no one has taken my blood she just told me to go home basically. I was seeing if I needed to get a blood test of my doctor supposing I don’t bleed, I would bleed wouldn’t I?

You poor thin @cupcakes. Sounds like you had a crappy experience today. A chemical pregnancy basically means you did conceive but the pregnancy doesn't last. People are testing so much earlier these days so we are seeing faint positives but then period arrives..often a few days late. So yes if it's a chemical your period will come at some stage when it's due or several days later. However if it doesn't arrive in a week or so you should retest and hopefully you will see a stronger line to confirm definite pregnancy. Then book in. A scan at four weeks will never be able to confirm a pregnancy as it is really just beginning. Bloods at this point would show up if hcg hormone is present confirming a pregnancy but repeat tests would be needed to confirm if pregnancy is progressing or not. As you are so early it wouldn't be usual to do bloods. Better just to wait and see what happens. Good luck

Cupcakesandlove · 01/03/2018 04:35

Thank you, my tests are getting darker would that be expected had I of had a chemical?
I have taken a photo but it’s half 4 so I can’t put any lights on I will put another one up later. Also I know I’m driving myself mad but after the negitive in the hospital I wanted to know when I stand if I made it up...

That's definitely positive, hang in there, I really hope it works out for you.

Cupcakesandlove · 01/03/2018 05:51

Here’s the comparison.
I know I’m beginning to get obsessed with this, so I’m going to stop all of this and let it be.

Definitely positive!

She has no way of knowing if it is a chemical pregnancy. Try not to worry. Today you are pregnant!

Happened · 01/03/2018 06:43

Clear line on the one you did today. They can't tell what is going on this early so I'd say you are definitely pregnant. Congratulations Thanks

MaverickSnoopy · 01/03/2018 06:48

Definitely positive without a doubt. If anyone doubts you at any point (which I doubt) you just say that you continued to have positive tests and no period. You can always keep them. The worst they'll do is a retest.

peterpanwendy · 01/03/2018 07:17

I'd also say that's a clear positive. I'd carry on as you are, forget about the doctors. wait for your period and when it doesn't show do a couple more tests to be sure they're getting darker (much like yesterday's/this mornings!) then when you're about a month late I'd go to your GP and tell them you're pregnant and need to book in with a midwife I wouldn't bother asking them to confirm because most likely they won't. These tests are very accurate and it's highly unlikely of getting a false positive or a chemical when the line is getting darker.

CONGRATS! Welcome to the rollercoaster :)

Thank you for reassuring me xxx

Clear positive OP - try not to worry too much, I was in exactly your boat with my DS and my lines got stronger each day. The tests you are doing are more sensitive than some tests doctors surgeries use - for instance, when I had tests like the ones you posted I took a Clear Blue digital and it said "Not Pregnant" - it just takes a while for the HcG to build in your system.

@buttmuncher
To be honest with you I had this exact issue regarding the faint tests with my daughter. So much so her dad told me I was imagining it because I wanted it to bad, was never as dark as the one today though.
I had a really rough time when I was pregnant with her and stupidly thought this time it would be easier.... I forgot how daunting and horrible the first weeks are. It’s the hardest job in the world for me is pregnancy I put to much pressure on myself.
I am going to the doctors on the 20th so in my head this is the first hurdle I must meet. Then I will go from there

SnoozyMcSnoozeFace · 01/03/2018 11:35

Just to echo what others have said, this is clearly a positive. As home bought tests are so good, the vast majority of gps don't even bother doing a confirmation test. The first confirmation I had was the 12 week scan! It was terribly rude of the nurse to say you'd had a chemical, I would forget they even said that. Unless you've had your period and are getting faint/negative tests, it's not a chemical at all. It's still early days of course but take it easy, and fingers crossed you have a nice smooth pregnancy! Congratulations!

@Cupcakesandlove you poor thing, echo PP but also to say I'd make a formal complaint about that experience in the EPU; from my own and what I've heard from others that was a long way below the standard of care and sensitivity expected from that particular department. Appalling she would treat you that way especially in light of your TTC history - if she didn't know it already she should have taken the trouble to find out before a) giving you misleading medical advice on which you could have relied and done something to compromise your pregnancy and b) giving you the psychological trauma of telling you the wrong info. Knowing your history they should have taken the bloods for reassurance, many do even though it's not "the rules". Usually fairly non-complainy quiet-life type with this sort of stuff but feel this should be recorded, she belongs in a less sensitive field. Just my two cents obviously! Massive everything crossed for a happy and healthy nine months xx

MissMoodyMoo · 01/03/2018 12:34

I'd phone your GP to try and get an emergency appointment to see the doctor or nurse to get your bloods done!...or I'd be straight back out at the EP! Your body, your baby, your mental health so it's your right to know 100% what's happening! Xx

Cupcakesandlove · 01/03/2018 13:59

Yeah i completely agree with putting in a formal complaint which I will do, I just want to make it out of the woods. It wasn’t just my ttc history it’s the fact I had a leetz procedure done in 2016 and I was advised this may effect further pregnancies as I may or may not be able to carry again.
I will defiantly complain about her, I am also going to go up there again at 8 weeks and shove my scan in her face (fingers crossed I get there)
Also with regards to my gp doing bloods ect they are fantastic and I will do so I just sort of wanted to make it to 5 weeks beforehand. I’m half burying my head In the sand and not wanting to get to happy even though we should both be over the moon we don’t even speak about it just a quick nod to tell him it’s ok after I go toilet. We waited a while for this, and this isn’t how I imagined any of it to be! But let’s hope to god this is all a massive mostake

I’ve booked to have my bloods taken tomorrow. I decided to goodly 4 week scan photo and there is Atleast a sac visible I had nothing! Just. Thickened lining

OP posts:
Happened · 02/03/2018 07:43

I don't think 'shoving your scan in her face' is necessary. She was rude and insensitive but I'd just move on and focus on your pregnancy now.

My friend had a scan at 4 weeks and saw nothing. She went back at 6 weeks and there was a sack, yolk and baby with a heartbeat.

Good luck with everything
