Coming off Cerelle

Hi all,

New to 'MumsNet' so not too sure on how it all works but I was posting to see if anyone on here has experienced the same symptoms as me.... I have tried looking for posts on 'Cerelle' but all of them are really old....

I recently finished my last pack of pills on the 16th Dec. The following day I had a two day bleed and then stopped for 12 days and had another two day bleed, which I was assuming was the withdrawal bleed? But in the mean time I've become SO spotty, my boobs are agony, I'm always bloated and I keep getting heart palpitations. I have come off the pill because I wanted to give myself a break and let my cycle go back to normal before me and my partner start trying for our first baby.

Bearing in mind I have been on this type of pill for 2 years with NO periods I'm worried they aren't going to come back easily....

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? How long did it take you to get back to normal?

Thanks in advance 😊💁🏻

hi there everyone-no one seems to have posted in this thread since 2019 and I just found it...is it still active here and can I comment? Thanks all x

Genie4808 · 13/01/2021 11:13

Can anyone tell me what all the acronyms mean please? I'm new here today and totally confused by them. AF? BFP? DTD? TTC? Thanks I'd really appreciate it!

LilyRose202 · 13/01/2021 13:27

Hi @Genie4808
This thread is still going. Welcome!

Not sure what half of them mean. I just say it as it is. 😂. I know AF is anti-flow meaning period and TTC means trying to conceive. If you google the others it should say but I wouldn't worry about it. Xxx

LilyRose202 · 13/01/2021 19:16

Hey there,
@31TTC How long after coming off the pill did you get your withdrawal bleed? How long did it last?
No period has arrived today but I have pain in my lower right abdomen which is really sore. I persevered and tried to do some exercise this evening and have been feeling so nauseous ever since. Constantly drinking water incase I overdid it on the workout but dizziness doesn't normally last this long 🥴. I've never wanted a period so badly so that I can track this. We're not even TTC at the moment, just trying to get my body ready for when we try in a few months. Tbh at this stage though I would still be delighted if it did happen. I work in a school too, though at home just now teaching online. More stressful than in the classroom!!

On a positive note, we have our baby names at the ready (and have done since about 6 months after we met) 😂. Has anyone else thought of names? 😊 xxx

31TTC · 13/01/2021 19:56

Hey @LilyRose202,

I assumed it was my withdrawal bleed, seemed to be a small bleed each day, the odd day was heavier. Took my last pill on 2nd dec and my first day that I think the withdrawal bleed started was 3rd jan! That day I was in absolute agony, made it out of bed only to shower & crawled back in with a hot water bottle. I think it lasted 4 days.
We’d love to fall now, got our girls name set but struggling with agreeing on a boys name lol!
Yes I’m the same, never wanted Aunt Flo so bad haha!

@Genie4808 we’re here! Still learning with the abbreviations too! X

RM9827 · 14/01/2021 00:29

Hi all! Glad to see everyone's still positive today Smile

Been feeling a bit of tightness in the chest today, almost like a need to cough but no actual cough there. Had a look online but not finding much other than chest pain when actually pregnant.

Has anyone else had something similar to this?
All my other symptoms have been fairly normal, like breast tenderness, headache, backache.

Thanks guys!

LilyRose202 · 16/01/2021 10:35

@31TTC Hey, aww sounds brutal. No sign of withdrawal or AF yet and it has now been about 3 weeks.
We have 3 girls' names and only 1 boys name but unless we have twin boys, we are all set 😂. (My fiance is a twin so who knows but I read it passes down through females, not males 🤷🏻‍♀).

@RM9827 Not had a tight chest. How are you feeling now? Has it passed?

Ladies, I have a rash across my whole body (neck, chest, stomach, sides, back and back of the neck). It is very itchy in places. It started a few days ago on the neck and I thought it was a stress or heat rash but not that it has spread and I haven't been stressed over the last few days, I'm getting worried. Any ideas?
Is this related to coming off the pill? Xxx

RM9827 · 16/01/2021 12:04

@LilyRose202 It has improved but hasn't passed, but we've put it down to anxiety and my terrible posture. I've been really anxious from the symptoms, even though I know they're normal, and I spend most of my day hunched over a computer. My heart rate is fine and my blood pressure is a little high, but I'm not the healthiest of people.

I haven't had a rash myself, so not sure if that's related. Did it appear suddenly or gradually? Is it itchy or hot to touch?

Just an update to all the ladies, AF made her appearance yesterday. Finally! 33 days after stopping Cerelle. Still experiencing the breast soreness/pain on and off, and the menstrual cramps down below are a LOT more intense than before I started the pill.

Definitely seems to be a lot of variation in AF appearance dates, so I wouldn't worry if it's taking a little bit longer Smile

31TTC · 16/01/2021 13:35

Hey ladies!

@LilyRose202 not sure about the rash either I’m afraid lovely! Hopefully it’s settled down now?! We have a possibly boys name but neither of us are sure!
@RM9827 sorry I’m not sure about the tight chest either. Perhaps it is from anxiety, so many people experiencing anxiety during this lockdown plus wanting to conceive I guess too!

We have been actively TTC, tool my 3rd test this morning, BFN which obviously is disappointing but we aren’t putting pressure on.
Not sure now is even the right time as my poor sister has just lost one of her twins during pregnancy & the other looking very fragile, at 19weeks so it’s such a tough time for our family, wouldn’t know how announcing another pregnancy would be!

Here’s hoping things will look up 👍🏼

31TTC · 16/01/2021 13:36

Also ladies, @LilyRose202 & @RM9827 I just want to thank you for the messages as we haven’t told anyone I even came off the pill yet or are TTC so it’s nice to speak to others about it!!! Xxx

RM9827 · 16/01/2021 19:08

@31TTC Definitely. I've been a lot more anxious myself, especially regarding health. You see so man horror stories in the news lately during lockdown that it's making me anxious over any slight ache or pain (though my mum has reassured me they're all fine).

Still getting some heart palpatations like some others and the breast tenderness is wearing off I think. It's still early days though so will see how they go!

Thank you to you ladies also! I'm so glad I found this thread and that it wasn't just another 10 year old one that no one would respond to. It's really given me the reassurance I need xx

LilyRose202 · 16/01/2021 20:10

Hiya,

How are we all this evening? I say this 'evening' but I guess you could be anywhere in the world 😂. I'm in the UK 😁.

@RM9827 Sorry to hear about the continuous chest pain and the stress. Try and take it easy this weekend. Get the Netflix on, the snacks out and the face mask on! We're watching season 1 of The Circle and I cannot stop laughing! Definitely a distraction from my itchy skin and thinking about work. 😊
Thanks for your concern. The rash appeared suddenly but spread gradually...
I'm glad AF appeared for you so that you can finally track this but gutted for you over the cramps. The hot water bottle will be your best friend. ❤ Hope it passes soon!!

@31TTC Thanks anyway. I went to the pharmacy and got some cream and antihistamines. Still scratching away though 😰 . Good news for you guys though...the pharmacist said the rash is not likely to be related to coming off the pill.
Aww man! So sorry to hear about your sister's situation. That sounds awful so I hear ya! Maybe don't think about TTC for the next month (and then there may be more of a chance of it happening as well as you'll be chilled out) and if it happens, great and if not, support your sister and try again the next month. I think she will be delighted for you if it happened now though.

I totally agree. This is the only thread I have posted on and followed on Mumsnet but it is a great support. Thank you ladies and let's keep each other sane 😁 xxx

31TTC · 16/01/2021 22:48

Evening ladies!
So nice to have each other to turn to isn’t it!!!
@RM9827 really hope the palpitations ease up soon!
Haha @LilyRose202 is right! The circle is brilliant! I watched it when on tv, now watching US one!!
Ah of course my sister would be thrilled but just so raw, such a tough time.
Perhaps holding off a little would be less pressure like you said.
Yep it’s the only thread I’ve been on too! Glad to have found it! Xxx

Genie4808 · 19/01/2021 11:37

Hi ladies, hope you are all well. I've been up all night with cramps and finally getting a bit of bleeding today so I'm hoping its my withdrawal bleed. Does anyone know if its possible to ovulate/get pregnant in between the withdrawal bleed and the first real period? This feels exactly like a period-I came off the pill on 24th December and this is the first sign of bleeding. But I'm happy today that this is happening. Also, like @31TTC we haven't told anyone at all that we are off the pill, we are keeping it secret, and I'm so glad I found this thread to have you all to talk to. (I'm worried at 37 that I wont be able to conceive as the females in my family all had early menopause) (hmm)

PositiveParrot · 19/01/2021 12:21

So glad this thread is still active! I’ve joined a couple of TTC ones but it’s nice to join in where people have stopped the same contraception as you. Not sure if it’s a placebo thing (no withdrawal bleed yet) but I already feel as mad as a box of frogs 😂

Genie4808 · 19/01/2021 12:29

Are we supposed to log a withdrawal bleed as a period in our apps? Eg Ovia, Premom? Not sure if I should wait until next month? And should we be testing for ovulation after the withdrawal bleed?
Thanks all

31TTC · 19/01/2021 16:28

Hi @Genie4808 it is a bit of relief to get the withdrawal bleed isn’t it! If I’m honest I don’t know if you can ovulate/get pregnant between but I do think I saw something on this thread a while back about people falling within days/weeks after coming off the pill but don’t recall whether they had their withdrawal bleeds first?! 🤷🏻‍♀️ All such a learning curve isn’t it!
I haven’t logged it as a period but made a note of it on my app (Flo) not sure how good it is though!
Love we can turn to this thread for a little help & common ground! 😘xxz

sazzerdazzer · 19/01/2021 17:19

Hi all,
Completely new to this but thought I'd jump in and say hello..
I recently stopped taking zeletta - similar to cerelle I believe, last pill on NYE and had a withdrawal bleed from around 3rd - 8th Jan. I'm a complete novice so no ovulation tracking or anything, just seeing how it goes for now! I thought I was pretty laid back about this baby making but it would appear I'm symptom tracking like a loon 🙄😄

31TTC · 19/01/2021 21:40

Haha @sazzerdazzer welcome to the club where we all obsess over symptoms! I’m exactly the same as you! Thought I’d just see how things go, no ovulation tracking, nothing but yet I’m still obsessed with what’s happening with my body & gutted each time I have a BFN! Xx

PositiveParrot · 20/01/2021 08:46

Morning all! Has everyone had their withdrawal bleed? If so what was it like? It’s been so long since I’ve had a period, I’m feeling clueless! Pink spotting this morning after some fairly savage cramping last night... 🥴

Genie4808 · 20/01/2021 09:52

@PositiveParrot I just got mine yesterday amd I have been off cerelle since 24 December. I was awake from 2am with cramping amd night sweats. Bleed started yesterday morning and still going today. I was awake last night from 3-6am, pretty nauseous too. It's a rough one for sure, I don't remember my periods being this bad. Best of luck. When did you come off your pill? BlushConfused

PositiveParrot · 20/01/2021 11:17

@Genie4808
That sounds super rough!! Hope it eases up for you soon. 🙏 Can you get any rest or is life full on?

I stopped taking the pill on Sunday just gone so I’m surprised to be spotting already. It’s very bright pink!

I’ve never been dreading and hoping for something at the same time... I have endo so historically my periods are debilitating. But I’m just like ‘bring it on, I can’t get pregnant without them’ now... who knows how long that will last 😂

HorrorQueen · 20/01/2021 11:26

Hi everyone, not been on here for a while, but as you can see from previous posts I came off the pill in March 2020, i had the withdrawal bleed as well as periods every month like clockwork someone's I'd be 2 late and get my hopes up but then I'd get mt period. This month I was 5 days late then I took a test which came back positive pretty much straight away. From what I've worked out I'm roughly about 5 weeks, ive been feeling sick on and off, my boobs are so sore & my body is always aching, I'm sure my stomach feels bruised near my belly button as anyone else ever had this pain before so early during their pregnancy?

Genie4808 · 20/01/2021 13:33

@HorrorQueen this is amazing news! What a lovely day for you congratulations!! I've never been pregnant so can't advise but hopefully someone will x

RM9827 · 20/01/2021 16:00

@PositiveParrot Hi there! Had my withdrawal bleed within a few days of stopping the pill. Very light, pink and didn't last long. Actual AF didn't appear until 33 days after stopping though, and I'm on my 6th day of it now but looks like the last.

@HorrorQueen Congratulations! Glad you got the results you wanted.
We won't be TTC for a while yet, I did this more for my own health physically and mentally, plus wanting to get back to normal. And I've not been pregnant before so can't comment either unfortunately. But hopefully everyone is just as lucky as you!

I'm definitely feeling a lot better with the symptoms. My breasts seem to be the main issue but no change to them physically. They feel almost as if they're tensing like a muscle a lot? And I've had a couple of dull aches and sharp pains but not much really.
Is anyone else still experiencing symptoms post AF?
