TTC while breastfeeding

DS is 13 months now and BFing 2-3 times a day/night. Would love to try for number 2 but periods came back in October and still all over the place and I seem to have a super short luteal phase (AF arrived today 5 days after OV, earliest yet!) so I'm expecting a long wait.

I noticed that there was a support thread for those TTC while breastfeeding a while ago and was wondering if there were others out there who fancied joining me on a new one?

Sorry for the slow replies - it's harder to keep up with mumsnet when you have a baby isn't it!

summer I've had a very, very light bleed - wouldn't really call it a period but hoping that the next time is more normal. Still waiting on it though. I'd say that was a positive OPK. I never got very strong positives but obviously still managed to conceive so was ovulating. What has happened since you got that? Did you manage to dtd?

doom are you waiting on your period any day now then? I'm jealous that you have predictable cycles! That's good considering how far pp you are I think!

mrs I also have a pot in the bathroom for my pee sticks haha! Not sure my DH realises it thankfully. Also love how clueless your DH is about how long you were trying for last time - they forget easily don't they!

We dtd a grand total of once this cycle and I think I might have ovulated now. Last time I got a positive OPK my period/spotting arrived 5 days later so my aim is for longer than that this time around! I didn't ovulate (if In fact I have) until CD 26 so don't know what that indicates.

Damn and blast. Aunt Flo arrived yesterday which is doubly annoying as it means more anxious waits and pee tests as well as missing baby swimming as I couldn't get someone to cover that for me.

I tested this morning with a FRER at 12dpo (before having DD I used to only have an 8 day luteal phase) and got this!

Can I join the thread please? My PFB will be two soon and still BF multiple times a day and (often) night too. My period returned at 6 months and is mildly irregular, just like before. Not long started TTC - second month trying this month and I am on CD28. Bit nervous about what breastfeeding might mean to how long it takes. Also nervous about falling pregnant and still breastfeeding, but didn't want to wait any longer to try for various reasons.

I'm still waiting for af to return. Just as I think we can drop the night feed little man starts going through a growth spurt and is feeding more 😩 On the plus side he needs bigger clothes now so I get to have a little retail therapy to cheer myself up 😜

Hi all,
I posted here a couple of times before, but have been staying off mumsnet to avoid baby obsession Grin
DD is now 20 months old, miraculously and unexpectedly voluntarily nightweaned unless she is feeling unwell! Really wasn't expecting that as she can be a total breast-pest. We moved house in March and I've been sleeping in her room ever since, which is starting to seem ridiculous - I'm terrified if I change anything she'll go back to broken nights! Does rather scupper ttc plans, but I've only had two cycles since she was born, so might well not work yet anyway.

Hi all, interestingly I have been night weaning DD1 over the past 3 weeks and this cycle I haven’t had the spotting around my expected ovulation like I’ve been having the last 3 months.

I have had some ewcm and fertility friend has me down at ovulating today. We DTD Tuesday and last night. May try again tonight.

Hopefully that’s a good sign.

I am back ladies, unfortunately my pregnancy wasn't to be. I had a missed miscarriage. It has been a devastating 3 weeks and now I am trying to decide whether to try again or not.

I'm really sorry to hear that jp Sad was it at your 12 week scan? There's just nothing that can prepare you for that.

I'm still lurking here as I am waiting for my scan before I get too excited. Don't like to join any baby boards too soon. Think I must be about 7.5 weeks.

It was at a 10 week scan. I doubt it had anything to do with still breastfeeding as I have had a successful pregnancy and breast fed. It has been a tough few weeks.

Hi all,

Can I ask how often you are breastfeeding in the space of 24 hours?

DS is 1 and we have been "TTC" for 7 months - although AF still hasn't showed up.

I drastically cut down on feeds recently, and I am hoping I finally ovulated. I'm charting my BBT and got positive OPKs, so all the signs are pointing that I did. But I do still breastfeed around 4 times in 24h, including once or twice overnight, and I wonder whether this will affect my fertility.

Currently in the tww, anyone else?

Welcome LulaRose I was feeding 5-6 times per day, but just cut to 3-4 times per day. My AF came back at 5 months (around the time I stopped pumping regularly). Not sure if I’m ovulating tho as ttc for 2 years with DD and Drs tests confirmed no ovulation despite all the signs being there.

Af is in progress atm, DD is approaching 10 months in just over a week. I plan to fully wean at 12 months.

I'm about 6 DPO. DS2 feeds 3-4 times a day but has been wanting to feed more recently. I'm starting to wonder if it's effecting my luteal phase. It's only 10 days and I ovulated so rarely before these last few months that I'm not sure if it's normal for me!
