New to TTC - no peak on clearblue opk!!

Morning All

I am new at this - only 6 weeks ttc#1 at age 33.

My best friend recommended using Clearblue Advanced Digital OPK in order to understand the best time to get pregnant since I only came off bc in May.

Found that my periods have been pretty regular over last 2-3 months. Usually 36 day cycle - last 2 periods were spot on!

Began using OPK on day 16 as per instructions. Only got flashing smiley (high fertility) from day 23. Now on day 27 and keep getting flashing smiley but no peak as yet!!!

I am getting concerned that I am either not ovulating or ovulating really late. Some say that if you ovulate late in the cycle then there isn’t enough time for implantation and therefore a viable pregnancy.

Is it possible to ovulate but not get solid smiley (peak fertility) on OPK?

Any advice is most welcome.

Oooh we are like twins lol. Yeah we try not to leave it too late in the day either. Are you using any fertility lubricants?
Don't worry about asking, I don't mind x

Erm not sure Pebbles - it does all the basic stuff on the free version, temping, ovulation detection, future prediction of fertile times and next period etc. Some of the tools are for their premium account only though like the OPK optimiser, which I believe predicts and tells you when is the best time to start using OPKs, but TBH all of the premium features seem gimmicky to me, you don't need them.

Thanks Bertie!

Very true LookingAtTheStars89! Wishing us both luck that last night was the night! However I’m pretty sure that I’m out this month.....think I might have missed the surge given only flashing smileys....or just not ovulated at all! Not telling DH that just in case there is still a chance this month though lol 🙂

I’m not using any lubricant as yet although I hear that preseed is good? What about you? Xx

LookingAtTheStars89 · 29/11/2017 08:25

Did you get a flashing smiley again? I did!! I am on cd20 now I think it's high unlikely that I haven't ovulated yet, considering my period is due in like 11 days! I will use up the rest of them out of sheer curiosity but I'm not sure I will be bothering with them next month! I noticed today though that the second line was really faint.
We started using conceive plus this month.

bubblybrit · 29/11/2017 08:47

Yep another flashing smiley for me! Like you I doubt I will be getting a solid this month 😢 must have already ovulated and missed it it not ovulated at all! Especially as AF due in 9 days and usually I’m pretty regular.

I’m keep going with mine as well although will be pretty concerned to see a solid now as LP would be super short.

Might have a look at some fertility lubricant. Must admit I’m still a little naive when it comes to all this ttc....school made it sound so simple to get pregnant that I was scared to even look at a boy!! Lol xx

I will be peeved if I've not ovulated at all lol after all the baby making we've done!! I'm now freaking myself that my prenatal vitamins have cause me not to ovulate!

bubblybrit · 29/11/2017 10:08

I’m feeling exactly the same. Which is why I would have liked that solid smiley. Now have no idea what is going on!?! Hopefully this month hasn’t been a complete waste of time lol 🙂 xx

LookingAtTheStars89 · 29/11/2017 10:14

Well we can't both have not ovulated lol...that would be kind of creepy! How old are you? If you don't mind me asking!

itshappening · 29/11/2017 10:20

I was getting a lot of flashing smileys but no static one month, and I had a spare pack waiting so after getting yet another flashing smiley (this was like the ninth!) I tested the same sample immediately with the new holder from the spare pack, got a blank circle! So immediately tested again with the holder from the old pack.....flashing smiley! I think it got stuck somehow. I read about one woman who kept getting it so she tested both her husband's urine and tap water, and they both got flashing smileys too. So don't worry, you may well have ovulated and the test missed it. Five or six flashing smileys is not that extraordinary though so keep testing in case you get a solid, it would be useful to know if you are ovulating late.

LookingAtTheStars89 · 29/11/2017 10:30

@itshappening. Lol @ 5 or 6 - I'm on day 9 of stupid flashing smiley laughs I'm going to keep testing though until my sticks run out. I've read about them being a bit unreliable and I've heard the tap water thing.

bubblybrit · 29/11/2017 11:21

@its happening. I’m on day 6 of flashing smileys but thought I would have peaked given AF due in 8-9 days. Looks like I have missed it!! 😢 didn’t know about the whole tap water thing though....not sure if I’m gonna continue after I run out if they are that unreliable!! That flashing smiley is taunting me.

@LookingAtTheStars89 - fingers crossed we have both done enough this month to get a BFP. I’m 33. What about you?

@bubblybrit. Lol yes I hope so too! Even My husband said to me in bed last night "man we have had a lot of sex recently" bless him. I'm 28 x

Jade94 · 29/11/2017 11:56

I have no idea when I ovulate or anything but I know I conceived Ds number 2 the day I was due to start cycle. So at 12 week scan I was actually on 8 weeks. Maybe start testing ovulation a bit earlier. I've always been told between day 10 and day 14 but I know its different for everybody :)

bubblybrit · 29/11/2017 14:00

@LookingAtTheStars89. My husband has said that I will ‘break him’ if we carry on like this! Hence why I’m trying to determine time of o to take a bit of pressure off him! However think I’ve inadvertently put pressure on myself. Doh!

@Jade94. I don’t think I o when the majority do. Very annoying. I’m thinking about using OPK every day next cycle to see if I catch it that way. Although given what @itshappening was saying I’m not so sure 😢

@bubblybrit get yourself some of the cheapie OPKs from Amazon. They are super-cheap and so you can pee on them to your heart’s content.

I start them around cd8 or 9 and usually get a positive around cd12 or 13 (although this time it was cd15, because my body likes to fuck with me Hmm). It’s best to do those ones in the afternoon and evening. I end up doing about 4 a day when the lines start heading in a positive direction. And yep that includes doing them at work 🙈.

LookingAtTheStars89 · 29/11/2017 14:31

@bubblybrit I definitely don't think I could have ovulated on cd14 because my lh blood levels were 8.6 which indicates I was still in the follicular phase of my cycle (the bit before ovulation). It's supposed to be a minimum of 25 at 24-36 hours before ovulation, which means realistically I can't have peaked until a couple of days later or not yet at all lol.

itshappening · 29/11/2017 15:39

I do think the OPKs can work as I had several textbook cycles with them. They just are not totally reliable. The main thing is not to assume the cycle is a bust if you don't get any smileys, solid or otherwise. Just proceed because you might still be ovulating. I have about a 25-26 day cycle usually and was advised to dtd at least every other day between days 8-16. I think 9-17 was probably more like it for me, but then you have it covered a bit. Obviously work/travel/illness/mood sometimes put paid to all that! It doesn't matter, just do what you can.

Honestly, give it time. You've just got to do it regularly in the general area of the possible ovulation time and hope for the best. If problems arise in the future you can look into that if and when you need to, but chances are that even without all the stressing and opk-ing you'll get a BFP soon. Nature has a way of laughing at plans. In my experience it is easier to resolve also not to do any pregnancy tests until your period is officially late.

bubblybrit · 29/11/2017 16:24

@pibbee. How do you manage not to go to the loo for 4-5 hours when you are at work? Think that’s what puts me off....although it’s worth a try as clearblue is super expensive. Which I wouldn’t mind if I thought that they were reliable!

@LookingAtTheStars89. Hopefully all that baby dancing means that although you might have missed your peak on OPK that you have still been dtd at the right time! Staying positive for us 🙂 xx

Pibbee · 29/11/2017 17:46

TBH at work I am often too busy to have time to go to the loo so I can easily hold it for ages!

bubblybrit · 29/11/2017 18:09

Lol. I so much as sniff a glass of water and I need to pee! Whoops xx

OP posts:
LookingAtTheStars89 · 29/11/2017 18:50

@bubblybrit. I'm telling you lol we are twins! I only have to look at a glass of water and I want a pee!

bubblybrit · 29/11/2017 19:16

Ha! How amazing would it be if we feel pg at the same time? I wish we were twins - then I’d still be a young 28 year old!! 😂 xx

LookingAtTheStars89 · 29/11/2017 20:52

@bubblybrit What day is flo due for you? I feel about 50 today lol

bubblybrit · 29/11/2017 21:02

Lol. I’m feeling super tired lately. Think it’s to do with all this ttc nonsense! AF due 8th Dec....feels like forever! Esp as I don’t feel as if it’s been my lucky month. Would rather she made an appearance so that I could start again. What about you?
