@Drttc do we need to take both folate and folic acid or just the folate?

zarala · 13/08/2018 13:41

@Hopeful07 from my understanding (and I could be wrong) but folate is more easily absorbed into the blood than folic acid- which is synthesised; while folate is naturally occurring... so if you take folate I don't think you need to take folic acid

Drttc · 13/08/2018 14:06

Yes @hopeful07 Zara is right! It’s becoming more mainstream knowledge now that folate is the way to go due to it being appropriately absorbed

Drttc · 13/08/2018 14:06

Sorry hit post too quickly @hopeful07!

Hope that helps!

Megan234 · 13/08/2018 14:36

I have the gene mutation MTHFR which means I don’t absorb folic acid as good and folate would be a better option, but Mrs S prescribed me 5mg of folic acid? I found good tablets thorne basic prenatal with higher does of folate but not sure if I should take them instead of pregnenmax, I might email Mr S to find out.

Hopeful07 · 13/08/2018 14:38

@zarala, @Drttc - thanks for the info.. one more new thing to add to my next cycle!!

DaniMERL · 13/08/2018 14:56

Hi @zarala,
I’ve only just started on the pred today for first time but am temping so will look out and see. Have you tried asking the clinic if this lower temp is a side effect?
How have you been feeling on the medication?

DaniMERL · 13/08/2018 14:58

@adrya, thanks for the reply, your story is so encouraging :)

zarala · 13/08/2018 15:18

@DaniMERL hey so this is my second cycle on the pred. Last time I didn't feel anything at all and I was so relieved. This time I have a constant low grade anxiety and feel wired at night ! 😬 but on a positive note I am feeling a lot more productive! (Can't sit still doing nothing!)

I haven't asked the clinic because I sent a small list of questions last week and the nurse fobbed me off with an email that basically told me to just do whatever shahata says and not ask questions 🙄😫
I mean he has already taken thousands of my pounds AND will be taking more from me once I do get pregnant....suffice to say- not impressed

DaniMERL · 14/08/2018 08:55

@zarala sorry to hear. I’ve had similar with very poor email communication just over basic questions, like ‘are my results there yet and should I set off on the 2 hr journey to my appointment in the next 10 minutes, having taken the day off work or not?’ Never a clear answer.
So temp has gone up significantly this morning, hopefully indicating that I ovulated yesterday. Have you done the temping at all prior to this cycle?
Those side effects don’t sound nice. I did feel v v tired yesterday and a bit dizzy but not sure if that was in my head really. Not really keen for any anxiety to start, to be honest. Fingers crossed for you this month x

zarala · 14/08/2018 10:44

Thanks @DaniMERL - the anxiety is quite subtle- feels like have had too much coffee if you know what I mean...
I started temping 2 months ago, so not really that long - I never used to monitor anything and have never had issues conceiving - just keeping them! I'm really trying not to get my hopes up for this month- testing on Friday and I can't wait! Just want to know...

It is very annoying that the communication and care is so shoddy - surely they should understand what we have all been through and be a little more empathetic and patient with us... I really feel like he runs a production line- very impersonal - but he has so much success, I have decided just to keep my faith in him.

Good luck for you this month too and hope you don't get any side effects!

Hopeful07 · 14/08/2018 10:56

@zarala I too have similar experiences with Mr.S's clinic.. no prompt replies on email.. i m now waiting for a blood test report for a week. After spending around £300 on it, they dont even bother to send a copy of the results just told all were normal.. Though its all normal basic blood tests, i expect to get a report for future references..
And i feel they seem to be too pushy to do everything with them and not anywhere else.. i live in midlands and can hav the intralipids here but he s not happy with it..
But as u said, he has so much success stories so just being patient..

Fx for the test on friday..Good luck!

zarala · 14/08/2018 11:02

Thanks @Hopeful07

Well miraculously the nurse just emailed me and apologised for her short email and told me to ask her any questions!
Maybe she was having a bad week!

But yes they are quite pushy- and you'd think he didn't need to be that pushy based on his success and popularity....

Coming from the midlands! Oh my- how often do you have to do the intralipids?
I live central London and he only does that in Epsom- once I have a BFP I will have to go every 2 weeks. And I thought I have a bad trek! He should outsource! Or have a travelling intralipid clinic! I mean the amount he charges he surely can afford that?

Megan234 · 14/08/2018 12:38

Hi Ladies I feel the same whenever I email the nurses, they alway try to fobb me off with some quick answer. We are paying a lot of money and have the right to ask questions.

@Zarala @DaniMERL we are ttc this month as well, good luck ladies x

zarala · 14/08/2018 14:30

Thanks @Megan234 ! When are you testing?
I am 8dpo today and testing on Friday! I am so impatient...

Megan234 · 14/08/2018 14:47

@zarala I’m only 2 dpo long time to go, best of luck for Friday, keep us posted x

Megan234 · 14/08/2018 17:08

Do you know how quick they can book you in for Intralipids? Is the clinic open on Saturdays?

zarala · 14/08/2018 18:29

@Megan234 no idea. They said just to call when get BFP and they book you in! I think it's from 2 weeks after the BFP but not 100% sure

Hopeful07 · 14/08/2018 19:47

@zarala thats great the nurse replied.. thats what we expect as we miss to ask many questions when we see him.. and i jus go blank seeing him and always remember things later.

I m having a IVF/FET, so will need to go for intralipids once before embryo transfer and again one on BFP and every two weeks after that as you.. Still not sure how its going to work out travel wise :-(

@Megan234 guess they ll book it quite quickly, last time when i called they said they can book after 2 days..
And my protocol always said to hav an intralipid as soon as you get ur bfp..But i m not sure whether its different for ladies ttc naturally..

Good luck to all ttc this month..Fx

Megan234 · 14/08/2018 20:01

@Hopeful07 @zarala do you need to go for Intralipids every 2 weeks when you are pregnant? I was told every 4 weeks?

zarala · 14/08/2018 20:18

Hi @Megan234 yes I have very aggressive nk cells- so I think that's why it's every 2 weeks. What level are your nk cells. I think mine are 1.83

@Hopeful07 they said to call in as soon as get BFP but I don't know whether that means I will get the intralipids immediately or only after 2 weeks ?
I guess I will find out soon enough 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Friday isn't coming quick enough!

Hopeful07 · 14/08/2018 20:30

@zarala @Megan234 Sorry intralipids s every 4 weeks for me after BFP not 2 weeks.. but i definitely got one immediately after bfp. I guess its different for everyone though.

Megan234 · 14/08/2018 20:41

@zarala my NK cells count is very high 476 but only borderline aggressive 0.81, but the NHS tests done 10 days later showed opposit NK cells count 218 and agresive 1.72.
I think I trust more mr S’s tests then NHS but I will speak to him about it next time I see him.

zarala · 14/08/2018 20:41

Ooh you guys are right! It's every 4 weeks the intralipids- scans every 2 weeks

zarala · 14/08/2018 20:43

@Megan234 how weird that the nhs results are the opposite!
Which nhs centre tested for it? St Mary's have offered me a uterine scratch in September....
My levels are normal according to dr s but v aggressive 🙄
