Anyone having weekly hcg injections to try to prevent another miscarriage?

I posted on the miscarriage board but haven't had a response so thought I'd ask here. I'm spotting & I suspect I'm starting my 4th miscarriage. I am wondering if the hcg injection will prolong an inevitable miscarriage. I would like to hear from others who have been advised to have these weekly injections by the recurrent miscarriage clinic. I had my first injection yesterday after a faint positive test on a frer. I am cramping & spotting.

Anyone? Cramping & spotting still. Wish I hadn't had the injection

I'm worried the injection will lead to another missed miscarriage where I spot & cramp for months & end up needing surgery to remove the failed pregnancy

Hi. So sorry about your recurrent miscarriages. I can't help at all but didn't want your message to go unanswered.

Greenglassteacup · 03/09/2017 13:41

Thank you. It seems odd that nobody on her has had these injections.

Are you sure you're having HCG injections and not progesterone?? I'm pretty sure I read you should not be having HCG once pregnant as the risks outweigh the benefits. (Although forgive me as my research on this is very very minimal) You usually have it pre ovulation to help you ovulate. 🤔

I know it's hard (I had a mmc at 10 weeks back in February) and you are probably worrying yourself to death, but nothing we can do or take or eat or drink can prevent a miscarriage or push towards a healthy pregnancy. Please try to look after yourself, keep stress to a minimum and try some meditation.

Good luck. X

Definitely hcg injections. I asked for the patient info leaflet when they gave the injection. Worried now

The recurrent miscarriage clinic I'm under is supposed to be good, so they must know what they're doing. Just isn't working for me I don't think because I am too old & need to call it a day.

Hunny you're pregnant!!! And you're pregnant until someone tells you any different or you have a baby in your arms. Feeling sorry for yourself isn't going to change that.

Hey, I'm sat here it's my due date tomorrow. I'm not pregnant again, I've been TTC for a while now and I don't have any children. Today my af was meant to show but because I have stupid cycles and I ovulated late I'm going to be probably expecting it tomorrow. The world is a cruel arsehole. But I'm still hopeful that this might happen for me one day.

You should have that positive feeling running through you. It's unfortunately normal to spot during pregnancy, my close friend pretty much spot throughout her first trimester. Please don't worry, it's probably a side effect of the injections and like you said, you're in really good hands. Smile Hun because you're pregnant and your body is fighting for you. Sending hugs. X

I am not "feeling sorry for myself". I am recognising the same stymptoms with the previous three miscarriages. I wish you all the best. I'd like to hear from women who've had the injections.

I was bleeding before the injection

I just wanted to say how sorry I am for your losses and for your anxiety now. I've had three miscarriages (all early, between five and seven weeks). I don't think anyone understands what it's like to have multiple failed pregnancies unless they've been there: I completely understand your 'I've been here and I recognise it' feeling about the symptoms. I haven't had the injections and my clinic didn't mention it as something that could be tried in my next pregnancy, so I'm sorry not to be able to help with your question and I won't offer advice, but can do support if you want it. What did the clinic say was the next step? Will they send you for an early scan?

LisaSimpsonsbff · 03/09/2017 20:16

On a more practical note (and I know that was what you really wanted, and I'm sorry I can't help): when I had a bit of a look it seemed to me that this treatment is more common in the US, so it might be worth looking at US-based forums to find women who have had it?

Greenglassteacup · 03/09/2017 23:26

Hi, thank you. The clinic said weekly hcg injections & a scan at 6 weeks & then weekly scans. My biggest fear st the moment is another mmc that rumbles on for months & months rather than a natural Mc over the next week or so. I've had both & the mmc is much worse.

OP posts:
Greenglassteacup · 03/09/2017 23:47

Cramping seems to be getting worse

OP posts:
LisaSimpsonsbff · 04/09/2017 07:12

I'm sorry to hear that cramping is getting worse. I don't know about hcg, but I did think about that with taking progesterone, which I'll be prescribed if/when I get pregnant again. Like you I worry that that could mask the symptoms of miscarriage (ie I won't bleed) but not prevent it. But what I told myself - and this is surely also true for you - is that if fetal development stops again, the scan will show this, at which point treatment will stop. So if it stops at five weeks again (which is when all of mine have stopped, but the last one my body hung on to for another two weeks) we'd know that at six weeks. The good thing there is that both you and they know exactly when you got a positive, so if that comes to pass (which it may well not, of course!) there could be none of the 'it's probably just that your dates are wrong' that they insist on otherwise.

Greenglassteacup · 04/09/2017 08:13

Yes I had that "your dates might be wrong" with the mmc. As if I'd get my dates wrong after 2 years of trying to have a successful pregnancy. Infuriating. I'm sorry that you've been through this too. Thank you so much for your support. I'm still cramping ( hardly sleep because of it) & the spotting is now heavier ( orangey red). I don't think I will have any more injections as I feel like it will delay the inevitable. From googling this injection it seems like the drug won't leave my system for 10 days. Got to go to work now. Will wear a big pad in case

OP posts:
LisaSimpsonsbff · 04/09/2017 08:22

I'm really sorry; I hope you're wrong and that this one is your successful pregnancy, but I understand wanting to prepare yourself for the worst. And yes, the date thing was infuriating - for that to be right I'd have had to have got a positive pregnancy test before I ovulated! I was lucky (well, relatively so!) because I miscarried naturally a few days after the scan, but I remember the horror of knowing that I absolutely had miscarried but that they wanted me to wait two weeks to confirm.

Greenglassteacup · 04/09/2017 08:45

Awful. With the mmc I ended up going private for surgery because the NHS were useless. I hope you have good news soon & that the progesterone helps you through. I feel like an emotional wreck with it all

OP posts:
Cupcakesandlove · 04/09/2017 08:56

Is there anyway you can contact the clinic for a scan today? X

Greenglassteacup · 04/09/2017 09:17

There's no point having a scan at 3 weeks because there would be nothing to see

OP posts:
Greenglassteacup · 04/09/2017 09:17

3.5 weeks
