How long did it take you to conceive?

Hello all,

I am 25 years old and have been DTD unprotected for over a year to no avail. Have a generally healthy lifestyle as does husband. Please can you tell me how long it took you to get pregnant and at what age? I just want to know how it is with others?

Almost 3 years. I was 26 when we first started TTC. DH 28. 14 months unassisted and then another 14 months under the fertility clinic. I have pcos and needed clomid and metformin to ovulate. 1 early miscarriage and 10 cycles of clomid later, I'm now 13+4 with baby number 1.

Do you have regular cycles and do you know if you ovulate? Have you been using ovulation predictor kits?

YouBoggleMyMind · 16/06/2017 19:44

Also, it isn't unusual for a normal healthy couple to take upto 18 months to conceive. They do say to flag with your gp after a year so they can do a basic round of tests for you and your DH.

missanony · 16/06/2017 19:46

How much do you have sex?

We were one cycle, dtd every other day from the end of the period until a positive result essentially

BikeRunSki · 16/06/2017 19:48

6 weeks, age 37
4 weeks, age 40
Both resulted in healthy babies

We DTD a lot though - about 4 times a week during those periods.

kel1234 · 16/06/2017 19:50

4 months. I was 21 when we started ttc, and 22 when I gave birth

lilymty · 16/06/2017 19:50

It took me 10 years and 2mc. I'm currently 6+5. If your worried have a chat with your gp, if only to put your mind at ease.

Jamon · 16/06/2017 19:59

Still trying 18 months in.

Yogagirl123 · 16/06/2017 20:01

I fell the first month of trying with both of my DS, I was 29 & 31at the time. I was very lucky I wasn't expecting to fall so quickly as a very senior gynaecologist had told me when I was 25 I may have trouble conceiving, and if I wanted a family to start trying.

Have you seen your GP for advice OP? Wishing you all the best OP.

1 month, with an ovulation kit. How often do you DTD?

arbrighton · 16/06/2017 20:02

You won't want to hear mine :/

First month we tried, I'm 34, been on mini pill for years, couple of months break then stopped using other methods on holiday. We dtd as and when while away but not exactly keeping track of anything

MuvaWifey77 · 16/06/2017 20:18

with my first the condom broke and I got pregnant . Never tried. Never been on the pull before. Last year I stopped the pill around September . And tried for a baby in December , on last ovulation day I felt pregnant , 26 weeks pregnant today.

WarwickDavisAsPlates · 16/06/2017 20:24

With DD we weren't trying so I'm not sure but we'd only been together a few months so not long.

Started trying to conceive dc2 when I was 24, I'll be 28 soon and still no luck. We took a short break around 5 months ago and back to it now... fingers crossed this year will the lucky one, otherwise I suppose we'll have to look at alternatives.

Out2pasture · 16/06/2017 20:28

I can't resist ....20 minutes ;)
good luck op, baby dust coming your way.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 16/06/2017 20:35

First time was a surprise, so no trying at all (I was 30). Second time it took 4/5 months (I'm 32). In the last month (the one that worked!) I used an ovulation prediction kit and dtd almost every day for a week after peak fertility was indicated. Good luck!

Zohz123 · 16/06/2017 20:37

I don't do ovulation tests every month but the months I have, I've had fertile days etc so I know that I do ovulate at least. Periods are like absolute clockwork, no symptoms of PCOS or endometriosis. Both DH and I are healthy as we have ever been, both 25. I have spoken to my GP and he said we should request a test for DH. Half of the trouble with taking it to GP is finding time for appointments :/ never used any contraception or anything. I know it could take time, but at the same time I'm scared of being childless for ever :(

Oh and also we DTD at least 3x a week when I'm not on my period, sometimes more. Throughout the past year we've DTD through all parts of the month so I don't think it's a case of us missing FW if you understand me x

18 months and it was only after a lap and dye I conceived - didn't even get a period after it!

Stef18 · 16/06/2017 20:42

Literally on the very first go. Was very surprised, as had heard it can take months even when all is fine. Currently 23+4.

mummc2 · 16/06/2017 20:43

I was very lucky first time used ovulation sticks and due to work and schedule only was the once and hey presto!!
It took my friend almost 18mths and they had tests that said nothing wrong so ???
Good luck

Oysterbabe · 16/06/2017 20:44

Aged 34 it took 5 months. Aged 36 it took 2 months.

boatrace30 · 16/06/2017 20:46

6months with DD and 10months in TTC #2. My experience seems to be that people I know either get pregnant very quickly or take a long time (6months seems unusual for example) Amazed at how many people fall pregnant first time and wish that were me!

sadie2017 · 16/06/2017 20:46

Several years for us. I used to get disheartened and give up for a bit and then try again.

We both had tests done with the NHS and all clear. We waited several months for a gyne referral but nothing...

By this time it had been 8 months and we were so impatient that we decided to go private. I booked the appointment and found out 5 days before I was pregnant - hubby was doubly pleased as saved a few ££ 😄

Hang on in there. I used the Ovia app to track everything. Maybe go speak with your doc if you're concerned. They can do a few tests to reassure you everything is okay. X

KimchiLaLa · 16/06/2017 20:49

One month.

I very, very loosely followed Zita West's how to get pregnant book - just the diet bit. Which wasn't hard as I eat most of that stuff anyway. I started taking folic acid a few months before TTC.

I also had been tracking my periods for ages - so I knew when I was fertile etc. I did buy OPK's from eBay but never had to use them. Basically, I feel like I did prepare my body for it.

Mentally however - it was a massive shock to the system, I thought it would take at least a year!

AgainPlease · 16/06/2017 20:55

Just over 18 months + IVF. Lost that baby at 20 weeks. Then another 6 months with 3 more tries with IVF.

Had all the tests under the sun - nothing wrong with either DH or I. We were told we'd have no problem conceiving naturally eventually but I was impatient so wanted to start fertility treatment asap.

I was 26 when we first started TTC. I'll be 29 if I manage to carry current baby to term this time around.

MrsPringles · 16/06/2017 21:06

I was 25 and it took us 6 months, my husband was about to go onto testosterone replacement therapy so there was a lot of pressure for it to happen by when it did

Longest 6 months of my life, I really feel for people that really struggle to conceive
