How long did it take you to conceive?

Hello all,

I am 25 years old and have been DTD unprotected for over a year to no avail. Have a generally healthy lifestyle as does husband. Please can you tell me how long it took you to get pregnant and at what age? I just want to know how it is with others?

I'm a few years young beer that you.

DC1 BFP 3 weeks after my implant came out, DC2 still trying 14 months later Sad

Rockspin · 16/06/2017 21:14

Dd1 took 2 months (I was 27) and we followed SMEP (Sperm meets egg plan).

Dd2 was a quickie in our hallway at a time i really didnt think was close to ovulation, so she was completely unplanned Grin

Hollyhop17 · 16/06/2017 21:14

8 months aged 32. My DH had been tested and I was about to be when I fell pregnant. Really hate to be that person, but I tracked etc from the beginning and nothing. The month I fell pregnant, we had given up a bit and only had sex twice at times we thought was past ovulation to take the pressure off.

As a result, I was pretty shocked and considering we were actively trying I didnt test until 3 days after my period was due as we were convinced it couldnt happen. 35 weeks today.

Best of luck, I know how rubbish it can feel.

Yogagirl123 · 16/06/2017 21:15

Try not to worry OP, you are young and both healthy. It sensible to have some tests for reassurance. I know it is really hard when you want a baby, but try to relax and chill, getting upset and uptight may hamper your efforts. Keeping my fingers crossed that you will have good news very soon.

Lemondrop99 · 16/06/2017 21:20

A year exactly, but I was coming off the depo injection which can take a year to get out of your system. I was having blood tests to check if I was ovulating so we weren't really trying that month, so it was all a bit of a surprise

feelingblue123 · 16/06/2017 21:25

I'm 33 and hes 43 and it took one crazy party to concieve. Morning after pill failed too.

RaeSkywalker · 16/06/2017 21:28

1 month.

I came off the pill a couple of years before we stared trying (not in anticipation of ttc), and also stared taking prenatal vitamins a month or so before we started ttc. We followed the SMEP plan without realising we were doing so.

I was 28, DH was 32.

It's definitely worth finding the time for a GP appointment. Try not to lose heart though- my friend and her husband took a year to conceive, and are both young and healthy. I hope you get some happy news soon.

RaeSkywalker · 16/06/2017 21:29

No idea why my phone is correcting 'started' to 'stared'... Hmm

Emma2803 · 16/06/2017 21:29

I'm pregnant with dc2 at the minute. Have used ovulation tests both times. With dc1 at 29 we missed the first month as I was just off the pill and it took ages to ovulate (5 weeks) and I sort of got fed up and had stopped testing. Second month dtd only the night I got dark opk and have a beautiful 2yr old ds. This time at 32 stopped pill and waited for first period, we dtd every other day from day 8 to day 20 when I got positive opk and quite frankly couldn't be doing with any more sex! Am now 11 weeks.

I would definitely look into tests for both you and Oh, so blood tests to confirm you are ovulating and sperm analysis for Oh.

Not to be rude but have you ever had any stds as some cam cause scarring of your fallopian tubes which can block them.

Hopefully you will get some answers, good luck!

Exactly 2 years, had to have fertility treatment in the end. Also young and healthy, unexplained as to why it didn't happen naturally. Because we were young and healthy they really didn't want to start any treatment until the two year mark

SeatOfMyPants · 16/06/2017 21:32

DS1 conceived first month. I was 33.

With the second, I conceived 5 months after starting (but miscarried) - I was 37. We tried again and conceived 4 months later - 5 months after the miscarriage.

I think it wildly varies between individuals and I'm not sure how helpful others' 'stats' are. For what it's worth, mine was first month conception at 26, 30 and 34 (well at 26 it was one risk-taking accident) and with planned DC2 and planned DC3 I was definitely slightly shocked that it happened straightaway each time.

Bythebeach · 16/06/2017 21:54

Oh and no ovulation tests used but I did have a clockwork cycle and DTD two weeks before period was due when trying to conceive the younger two which obviously worked out just fine.

cantdothisagain2017 · 16/06/2017 21:57

#1 3 months
#2 18 months
#3 first month trying
#4 first month trying
#5 24 months

Zohz123 · 16/06/2017 22:31

Thanks for your responses. It helps knowing people's stories and how they can be so different. Life is good for us both and so we aren't too too down about it. He is very relaxed and I tend to get all worked up when I realise that AF is definitely coming this month (came today hence this thread). I will try ovulation sticks again this month though I think! Wish I could just have some sort of procedure so I knew what was going on in there!

Exactly 2 years with IVF. Only early days for me though.
I would go to the gp and get some tests done, get the ball rolling and hopefully you'll fall in the mean time

Kittyp75 · 16/06/2017 22:49

It took us 20 years, I'd given up all hope and resigned myself that it would never happen. Didn't do IVF (was going to, but wouldn't have been able to cope with the disappointment). Then when I turned 39 it happened, I thought I had the flu but turns out I was pregnant 🤰. He's almost 2 now and is our little miracle.

PTphonehome · 16/06/2017 23:20

First baby was unplanned. I'm pregnant with number 2 after 7 years ttc.

clairerachel · 17/06/2017 09:29

We started trying just after Christmas 2014. April/may time 2016 we went to GP and got referred to hospital for tests to firstly check everything was ok before fertility treatment was considered. But every test we done was coming back okay and we waited for next stage. Feb 2017 my partner proposed and I got really excited and into planning our wedding... I fell the same month. Distraction worked for me. I didnt feel like it was constantly on my mind but maybe I was over thinking and stressed as to why we weren't falling. So don't give up your get there!

Catra · 17/06/2017 10:05

I'm 38 and conceived on our 5th cycle of actively trying. We didn't DTD any more often than usual, but I used the Clearblue advanced fertility monitor and made sure we always did it on the day before and the day I was ovulating.

Several of my friends who are a fair bit younger and I'd daresay healthier than me are undergoing IVF after being unable to conceive naturally, so I consider myself extremely fortunate.

Thingymaboob · 17/06/2017 13:06

Pregnancy 1 - 9 months but miscarried
Pregnancy 2 - 3 months currently 10+3

leighdinglady · 17/06/2017 17:06

First time TTC I was 30. It took 18 months. We had all the tests and were told we were both perfectly fertile. Sadly we lost that baby, but then got pregnant the very next month!

I don't think there's any explanation for it sometimes taking a while

ToniMumsnet · 17/06/2017 17:28

Hi all,
We'll be moving this thread to Conception soon.

Whatwankeryisthis · 17/06/2017 17:44

6 cycles aged 27. Precision we had dtd every 5 minutes around when I thought I was ovulating. The month we conceived we dtd every 2 days and used preseed. I worked out that I had a short luteal phase and we had been trying too early.
