PS I'm sorry you're still bring sick, must be exhausting

I was stressing this morning I've still only put on 2/2.5kg and my book says average at 20weeks is 6kg. I'm guessing it's fine, but....

Imps9 · 10/05/2016 15:46

Oh Keep I meant to say - re: 20 week scan, I read this thread which I found to be very comforting actually - a reminder that bad news at the scan doesn't necessarily mean tragic news:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1634469-How-common-is-it-to-get-bad-news-at-20-week-scan

Yes, probably I haven't actually been feeling movements. I am still only 16 weeks after all.

I won't bang on about Mr Imps' family - I was probably being totally unreasonable and I know I just have to woman up. It was just a bit easier when Mr Imps and I could quietly get on with it ourselves without interference from others!

imps I don't remember constantly feeling movements after the first time I thought I had. I think to begin with its easy to miss them as they are so small so if your busy and distracted you might miss it. I'm sure all is fine. We found that having our own Doppler was good for reassurance especially for dh, but I agree it's a risk and could cause more worry.

ControlGeek · 10/05/2016 19:09

Brooking so hard for your scan on Saturday trix, and for YOurs too keep - I guess it's true that the anxiwty never really goes away.

loopy oh I so ope that your stronger feelings mean this will be your sticky.

mn is freezing badly on mr and have already lost one post, so sorry for awful typing. All is fine here. No bleeding/spotting since the end of week 6, and saturday's scan has given me a lot of hope. ms is starting to ramp up a littlee, though so far only actually been sick once. lots of aches and pulling/stretching pains going on. clexane bruising is awesomely specacula! no date for that yet though :(

Imps9 · 11/05/2016 06:52

It all sounds extremely good Geek Grin How bloody wonderful!

Thanks for your reassuring words Brookers. Am feeling a bit chipper today. Just weighed myself though and I've put on not a single gram since 13 weeks (am 16+1 today) Confused Hopefully this is just because I'm eating a healthier diet now, and not just Pringles, burgers and mini-Babybel all the time. It's another thing to fret about though!

Oh, I meant to tell you that we found a weekend 4-session NCT class in August that we've signed up for, rather than the one where we would have missed 2 sessions. August feels a bit early, but we'll give it a go and see how we get on.

Oh gosh imps I'm so sorry, I was so cross with mn last night that I forgot half of what I wanted to say. It's so early for you to be feeling movements, that I can imagine it would be very easy to not notice them even when they were happening, if you were busy or distracted at the time. I'm sorry your in laws are being particularly annoying, it sounds like there are a lot of opportunities for you to practice your deep breathing! I also wouldn't put too much in store for your lack of weight gain, you've been so sick that I'm not surprised you've not managed to put anything on. Your body knows what it's doing, and will be prioritising b-b's nutritional needs over your own anyway. Glad you are feeling a bit more chipper today though my lovely. At least the sickness seems to be on its way out at last.

I never thought I'd say this, but I am now a MWEPP Grin The appointment was a bit of a crashing introduction to the world of the non-reproductively-challenged though. The mw couldn't understand why I didn't look simply over the moon until after I had explained about our history. I hadn't realised til that point just how tarnished my view of pg must look to others, because I honestly thought I'd gone in there smiling!

Imps9 · 11/05/2016 14:56

Barry-Baxter had a heartbeat! He lives on!

The MW (who may well be the loveliest person on earth) told me that in our area at least, MW are no longer allowed to listen to heartbeats. The policy is now for concerns to be "movement and body awareness led" (as well as the scans) so that only referrals that the mother has initiated due to concerns about movements (or lack thereof) will be supported - they won't support referrals which have been initiated by MWs who think there is something amiss due to heartbeat.

She says that for now she's ignoring this a) because of the reassurance that hearing a heartbeat has for the monther; and b) it's one of her favourite parts of the job when she sees parents hear their baby's heartbeat. She doesn't know what she would do if she thought there was a problem though, so will probably toe the line soon.

Seems a bit bonkers to me - especially at 16 weeks when a lot of women won't feel movements yet - but am sure a lot of thought has gone into it...Hmm

Oh, and Lovely Midwife did my blood pressure the old fashioned way - with a manual machine (I do know the word, but not how to spell it) and a stethoscope. I'd forgotten that's how it was always done having been at the end of a digital check since I can't remember.

OP posts:
Pastamancer · 11/05/2016 18:51

During one of my antenatal appointments there was a trainee Dr in the appointment and my MW explained to him that they always do BP manually for pregnant women but didn't explain why

Imps9 · 11/05/2016 18:56

I wonder why that is! I've only ever had digital at EPU and Bourn Hall.

Imps9 · 11/05/2016 19:04

And at my booking appt, come to think of it.

OP posts:
ControlGeek · 11/05/2016 19:36

Yay for a nice b-b hb imps!!! My bp was done manually today too, and came out quite a bit higher than all of the automatic machine readings I've ever had - they struggle to get me over 100, but today's reading was 110 over something. Maybe mws prefer the added accuracy of a manual reading?

Imps9 · 11/05/2016 20:26

Oops just noticed that I put "had a hb" in my earlier post - I meant "has".

Yay geek and imps!! geek was it not the full booking appt in the end, xwill you have another? Are you still having that scan tomorrow or did you cancel?

How odd, mine used manual too. Mine was pretty low last time, I think 90/60, she just told me to drink more fluid

2.5 days trix...

loopy hope you're OK, are you waiting till the weekend?

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 11/05/2016 21:17

Just a quick attempt at a catch up, yay for mwepp geek and for heart beat Imps.

I'm torn between testing on Friday when I should be 10-10.5 dpo which is Friday 13th or waiting until the Saturday. Fingers are itching to test tomorrow but it would probably be a waste of a test and I don't have an endless supply of tests.

Imps9 · 11/05/2016 22:43

Given that you'd probably normally test tomorrow Loops, I'd say that Friday is a good compromise!

Trix how are things going?

Belle how are you? Did AF turn up in the end? And where are you at Ema?

Just watching last year's One Born Every Minute - there's this incredible family in this episode - pregnant woman is 16, she found out she was pregnant 2 weeks after splitting up with the father and getting together with new boyfriend; 2 days later her mother discovered she had breast cancer; then at the 20 week scan they discovered a serious heart defect with the baby which might mean the baby won't survive after birth. Could you even imagine? And still they're happy and so close to each other and the new boyfriend has stayed with her and is so grown up. Very inspiring people.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 11/05/2016 23:05

Imps I remember that one, if my memory is correct it's a very sad episode

Imps9 · 11/05/2016 23:31

Well the baby survived - had surgery at 3 days old and was scheduled to have the first major op at 9 months. But yes - it was quite a tear-jerker I have to say.

ControlGeek · 12/05/2016 08:07

keep I had height, weight, bloods and pee done, and got my bounty pack, but it was mostly the mw going through the paperwork she'd need to do at my next appt. She needs to come to my home to do the booking in, she said. But I've got my dentist and prescription exemption form now, and all the emergency numbers in case I need them. Oh, and of course I didn't cancel today's scan Grin MrG and I are very much looking forward to seeing our little frog again.

keepitgoing · 12/05/2016 08:57

Pleased to hear it! Enjoy, lovely, you deserve it x

cartoontrickster · 12/05/2016 09:33

Grrrr lost my post!

cartoontrickster · 12/05/2016 09:40

Ok it was something like.
Yay for being a mwepp geek enjoy your scan today.
Yay for Barry Baxter too.
loopy I also think Friday sounds a good bet.
All ok here. I was sulking yesterday as I felt better than I had for a couple of days so was convinced it had all gone wrong. But I'm feeling a bit rough again now oh well scan on Sat will tell us one way or the other. I've had no bleeding since implantation so that must be a good sign.

Imps9 · 12/05/2016 11:56

They are great signs Trix. What time is your scan on Sat?

Enjoy your scan today Geek! Post another photo so we can see how much Geeklet has changed since your last one!
