Asherman's syndrome and no periods

Hi! I miscarried in Sep (5 months ago) and had an ERPC. 8 weeks later an unltrasound showed that the uterus was not empty and another ERPC was performed. That was 7 weeks ago and my periods have not yet returned. Is there anybody
that has experience with Amenorrhoea and/or Asherman's syndrome? Thank you!

martianbishop - thanks for your encouraging words. I have no kids (we were trying for the first time but unfotunately I had a blighted ovum) and would we would like to try again at some point, but right now I am very confused and worried. Do you mind if I ask you a few questions? Did they insert a coil at surgery? If so, how long were you wearing it? What caused the stenosis in the first place? Was it also an ERPC or natural? Thank you very much.

OK, I had an ERCP, baby had stopped developing at 8 weeks, I lost it at 12.

I have a second D and C to break down the scar tissue and a coil fitted at the time. It was left in place for 6 months. I also took the pill during that time because my endometrium was rather patchy, and it would stimulate regrowth.

If found the 6 months very stressful, as I bled a lot and very much wanted to 'try again'. But in the end it was all worth it and dd was born 2 years to the day that i lost the first baby.

Please keep posting and I'll be happy to 'chat' at any time. Hope it all goes well

One of my reasons for not going private with this, to get my wait less, is that my consultant on the NHS is a bit of an expert in Asherman's and comes with glowing recommendations from some doctor friends I know. And I wouldn't get the same person if I paid. So holdingout at the moment.

Good luck.

d4phne · 18/01/2007 20:40

I just start to realise my situation now. Actually I do not know how to cope. I guess I am having a breakdown. I hadn't realised it would take so long to heal and I am scared to death by a third ERPC and a coil.

So sorry you are feeling so down right now. I guess you have to keep remembering the pig picture - the final result. MB is your proof that this is all very successful and can mean healthy pregnancies and babies afterwards. Good luck.

Blandmum · 19/01/2007 06:50

I know that it seems like an age, it did to me too. And I well remember the awful feelings of loss and failure, but Hula is right, now they have found out what the problem is, they can treat this.

Your body will heal, and along with it you will become stronger. Every day is a day closer to the coil being removed.

Mt two children are in the kitchen eating breakfast while I type this....proof that there can be the right outcome in all of this.

What you are feeling now is part of the process of coming to terms with this. You are strong and you will cope, you will get better. Keep your mind focused on this, and post. When I went through this there was no-one I knew that had ever had this. Now there are three of us on MN. We can all get through this tgether.

Sending you the biggest of vitual hugs. Let me know how you feel today.

Hi Martianbishop and Hula,

thank you so much for your kind and reassuring words. Coming from women in similar situations
(past or present) really, really helped. Sorry for not answering soonerL I first had to come to terms with everything (took some time off and had no internet access).

I guess there is the whole history of doctors telling me on about 5-10 occasions that I am 'just' stressed and should go on ADs (which I didn't) and all the time there was something physically wrong that they could have easily found if they just would have taken me serious and looked into it! -- I had three suergies in the last three months.

Now, here is the good news: I had surgery (they opened the cervix and drained all the blood) and they found that I don't have Ashermans and dont need a coil. I am recovering well and now I have to wait and see what the next cycle brings and whether or not the cervix will close up again. So different kind of 2ww here.

Martianbishop I admire your attitude: you have really made the best out of your situation and am very happy that you have two children now!

Hula, I can't believe you have to wait so long. I think you should go back and ask your consultant (the one you respect) if he can fit you in sooner (on NHS). You shoulnt have to go through this!!!

d4phne - sounds like your surgery went well, phew!Fingers crossed the cervix remains as it should be now. Good luck with everything.

As for me, I did see my GP this month as I went for new stronger painkillers - which appear to be rubbish as weel - and he is contacting the consultant again.

I got a date sent for my hysteroscopy today and can't makeit Itis the day before I go on holiday and as the consultant tol me I coul have pain for a couple of days or so after, as region is alreadyy sore and sensitive, I had to turn it down. They will contact me again with another date but it will be May/June now Can't believe they can't just make the appointment now - apparantly the diary isn't available that far ahead.

lulu1414 · 23/02/2007 15:44

Hulababy- You poor thing. I, too, am totally appalled by how long it takes. I have to go on Monday for a pre-op assessment and only then will they put me on the waiting list. I had to wait over 2 weeks for that letter to come through, too. So i am looking at June too. I so just wanted to get on with things and it is screamingly frustrating to have to wait so long. I am going for a second opinion first, though, just to make sure I have been given the right diagnosis of Asherman's.

Hulababy · 25/02/2007 11:05

I don't think they can guarantee it is Asherman's until after the hysteroscopy from what I can gather. I am definitely looking at May/June, so that will be almost 12 months since I went to the Gs about this!!!

lulu1414 · 05/03/2007 16:08

An update- I went for a second opinion and I felt much better with this guy- much more switched on and took more time. He says he does not think I have Asherman's. Although he is not ruling it out, he thinks it is more likely polycystic ovaries. He did internal ultrasound and found 7 cysts on one ovary and 1 on the other. Wants to put me on Clomid...

AttilaTheMeerkat · 05/03/2007 16:13

Hi Hulababy,

"The pain is FAR worse than ordinary period pain. It is all emcompassing at times. Mine is also accompanied by pain and tenderness of my cervix and lower abdomen/uterus. Again, maybe where the main bleed cannot get out so possibily adhesions near to cervical opening".

From your description of the pain I am wondering if endometriosis is behind all this. Has anyone ever mentioned endo to you as another possible cause?.

Hulababy · 05/03/2007 16:22

Thanks for responding; I had all the checks for everything like that. The pain described is typical of Ashermans also, and could be stenosis related also. I won't know for definite until after the hysteroscopy. But certainly at present they do not believe it to be endometriosis.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 05/03/2007 17:19

Hulababy,

I do hope your forthcoming hysteroscopy op goes well and that it will give you a definitive answer.

Hulababy · 05/03/2007 17:26

Thanks
