Anyone want to join me? All are welcome!

A bit about me: I am 33, have been with DH for 8 years but only got married about 3 months ago (and started TTC as soon as we got back from honeymoon!). We are now really keen to start a family... and already getting impatient with all this hangin' about!

Hi MrsD28

I think I'll be joining you shortly, I'm also 33 and we've said that as soon as we get back from holiday in 3 weeks we're going to throw caution to the wind and see what happens! It'll be no.1 for both of us, I won't be stopping the pill until we get back from holiday so keep telling myself it will take months but then I've read quite a few threads where it's happened within a few weeks and have started to panic a bit!

MrsD28 · 14/09/2015 18:48

Hi Ih34rtchocolate!

I can definitely relate to that I-want-it-to-happen-but-I-am-scared-it-might-happen feeling. But not having to worry about contraception for the first time in my life definitely has its upsides :). Welcome aboard!

Hi there
I'm 38 and got married in July, we also started ttc as soon as we got back from our honeymoon. This will be our third month ttc so even though I know it still early days its hard not to worry why it's not happening.

CamMc · 14/09/2015 20:49

Hi there - I'd be delighted to join too. I'm 33, ttc since returning from honeymoon in May. Just past ovulation so now entering into the dreaded two week wait....Trying to be very relaxed about it all but after a false positive test last month, which sent me on a rollercoaster for a week until my period arrived 6 days late, it's been a hard to keep calm and be patient!

Will be great to to have some relaxed support to calm me down if I get stressed out again!

Cordelia21 · 14/09/2015 21:12

I didnt get as far as testing yet as AF came 2 days early this month. Tried testing with clearblue opk last month but never got a smiley face, think I was testing at the wrong time of day so waste of money but still worry I didn't even ovulate!

CamMc · 14/09/2015 21:28

I tried those too last month - never got a smiley face so am just charting with an app called Clue. Find it pretty simple to use with basic information, so I don't get too obsessive about it....just pops up with reminders on my phone! Far cheaper and less neurotic than opks every day of the month!

MrsD28 · 16/09/2015 10:59

Hi Cordelia21 and CamMc,

Good to have you aboard! CamMc, I am also currently in the dreaded two week wait.... feels like forever! I find that I am still trying to get used to the rhythm of ovulation after 15+ years on the pill... I think that I am starting to recognise the signs in my body (CM etc), but think I am probably over-thinking it...

When did you stop the pill MrsD28? Has your cycle returned to normal fairly quickly? I had a brief break from it around 3 years ago, and had hellish withdrawal symptoms so I'm dreading a repeat, which is why we're waiting till after holiday (last big holiday, been planning for a while so didn't want to spoil it!)

MrsD28 · 16/09/2015 16:20

Hi Ih34rtchocolate - I actually stopped taking the pill in June 2014, because I had heard that it can take up to a year for your cycle to get back to normal (and I knew that we would want to start TTC after our wedding in June 2015). We just used condoms for about a year. However, when I started taking the pill (back when I was about 17 or 18) I had never had regular periods - they had always been really irregular and heavy - so I was worried that I wouldn't have a regular cycle when I stopped.

From June to December last year, I had about 3 periods - then had nothing at all from Christmas to April. I made an appointment to see my GP, but AF arrived about two days before the appointment. My GP ran lots of blood tests just in case, and sent me for a pelvic scan, which I had in July. At the scan, they told me that I had polycystic ovaries, but that I was definitely ovulating. Since then, I had one cycle where I waited four weeks for ovulation. But then my most recent cycle, ovulation happened about two weeks after LMP - in other words, exactly when it was meant to for a normal 28 day cycle!

I am not using OPKs or anything to track ovulation - I am finding that I can tell when it is happening from CM, bit of discomfort in my middle, and (TMI) constipation. Also, much higher libido than normal! Accuracy of these signs was confirmed when I went for my pelvic scan - I thought that I had ovulated about a week before, and at the scan they told me that I had ovulated about a week before.

Sorry, mega-long reply!

Hi everyone, can I join you on this thread? I'm 33, been with my fiance for 5 years and we have been ttc number 1 since Feb. We started to 'just see how it goes' and I came off the pill, but I'm starting to get impatient and obsess over it. I don't think we DTD at the right time and it feels wrong to tell my partner we must dtd as its the right time. I'm not charting ovulation or anything just use an app. It's very frustrating. Wonder when we should go to the doctors and whether we should go together or separately? Af due this weekend and already getting period pains so another month gone by. Hoping we can all support one another through this fun/annoying/frustrating/up and down saga!!

Beckypea · 17/09/2015 16:54

Hi ladies, can I also join?
I am 31 (soon to be 32 in a few weeks) been with OH for 5 years. Just bought our first home together so have come off my combined pill two months ago. The last two months I have had a three day AF. Using condoms ATM while house stuff settles down and thinking of starting to try for our first the end of this year.

I'm also get that ' I-want-it-to-happen-but-I-am-scared-it-might-happen' feeling Mrs D and choclate

Cordelia21 · 17/09/2015 17:06

Hi funnybeanz and Beckypea
it looks like I'm the oldest on here but it goes to show even if I had tried earlier then it wouldn't necessarily have happened any quicker. I'm on CD8 at the moment so not quite at the dreaded 2 week wait yet but still anxious to try and DTD at the right time, not easy as DH works away and only home at weekends. I am going to use cheapie ov strips this month just so I feel like I'm doing something and hopefully get confirmation this month that I have ovulated.

funnybeanz · 17/09/2015 17:18

Hi cordellia21, congrats on your recent wedding, you're right starting ttc earlier doesn't mean it would be any easier. When you use the ov strips do you then dtd as soon as you get a positive or is that kind of too late and you should be doing it days before? I'm not really sure how these work, but I might give it a try just to feel like I'm doing something like you. Hi also Beckypea, good idea to wait till house stuff all sorted, hope it all goes well!

Cordelia21 · 17/09/2015 17:31

I think I'm right in sayng that the strips detect the LH surge and that surge means that OV is just about to happen but to be honest we can only DTD when he's at home so unless I go to work with him there's not much else we can do about it. So I suppose it really is just for my own peace of mind to know that I am definitely ovulating.

Beckypea · 17/09/2015 17:36

Thanks both. I haven't started tracking my cycle yet. I know that now is a good time to do it while waiting to TTC so when the time comes we can 'get to it' but got so much going on right now. I think I am going to be investing in the ov strips come the time. And start tracking after my next AF due 4th/5th October if all goes to plan. My last twos AF's although short both came on the same date the last two months. I am excited for everyone here.

Sizzle1981 · 17/09/2015 18:51

Just browsing and thought I'd mention for those thinking about opks, clear blue are running a clinical trial. You get free opks and pregnancy tests and £50 if you become pregnant. Smile

VicA1 · 17/09/2015 19:49

Hello all, I'd love to join as well. This is the perfect thread for me - I'm also 33, TTC #1 and full of that I-want-it-to-happen-but-also-scared-it-might-happen thing.

This month will be the first proper month ttc although we did throw caution to the wind a bit on holiday last month. I'm not sure whether to dive right in with all the tracking and calculations, or take a more relaxed approach.. I'm quite a worrier but also love a good bit of science. I'm not sure I even knew OPKs existed until I started lurking here on Mumsnet. Nice to meet you all anyway!

Cordelia21 · 17/09/2015 21:43

thanks for that info Sizzle1981, I I don't get lucky this month then I might give it a go. Good luck to everyone, however you decide to go about things.

CamMc · 18/09/2015 07:54

Morning everyone - Happy Frday! Seems like we are all very much in a similar place! I'm off to see my cousin and his wife this weekend who have two little boys and have just announced they are expecting their third! Will be picking their brains for any advice.

We only DTD twice this month but at the right time, so there is every chance it could have worked. Just trying to relax until period is due next Friday....it's going to be a long week!

Where is everyone else at in their cycles?

funnybeanz · 18/09/2015 09:22

Hi CamMc, hope your cousin and his wife give away their tips, let us know!! I haven't told anyone that we are ttc, I'm not sure why, I just haven't so it's difficult as I don't have anyone to share the frustrations with! Fingers crossed for you this month. My period is due this weekend, having the normal pre-period feelings so know it's on its way. Will start again next month!

MrsD28 · 18/09/2015 16:38

Afternoon all - so happy to see so many fellow TTC-ers join the thread :)

CamMc - AF is due very soon... I am paranoid about it starting! I am telling myself that I will test on 1 October (random date!) if it hasn't appeared before then.

funnybeanz - we also haven't told anyone that we are TTC either. That's sort of why I started the thread... to be able to chat to other people without telling friends and family IRL. Weirdly superstitious about this - I feel like if we tell people we are trying, it won't happen. Anyone else get that feeling? (or am I just going nuts!)

Mookie85 · 18/09/2015 21:09

Hi all! I'd like to join too! I'm 30, been with my hubby for 8 years (married since May 2014) and we have been trying for our first baby for almost a year. My periods have been quite irregular 28-39 day cycles although I am pretty sure I'm ovulating! Have been to the docs and she is sending me for some blood tests. Was feeling quite pisitive this month but started with period cramps today so I expect that I will be on by tomorrow! Can't help but feel a little gutted!

funnybeanz · 18/09/2015 21:41

MrsD28 - I have that exact superstitious feeling too. Can't tell anyone we are trying as that clearly means it will never happen! But I think I am completely nuts!

Mookie85 - sorry to hear you've got period cramps, it's rubbish when you go from feeling quite positive to gutted. Did your Doctor take much convincing to give you blood tests, I heard they usually don't do anything until you've been ttc for a year? I sort of want to go to the doctors as I'm getting frustrated and worried that it's not happening, but at the same time I don't want to go to the doctors and admit all of this and start tests either!

MrsD28 · 18/09/2015 22:35

funnybeanz - I went to the doctors before we started trying, and told my GP (who is very supportive) that I was worried about being able to conceive due to irregular periods both before starting the pill in my teens and since going off the pill in June last year. She sent me for blood tests straight away, and for a pelvic scan to check that everything was in order (it was, thank goodness). It is worth asking - they might say no, but you never know!

OP posts:
Mookie85 · 18/09/2015 23:09

It didn't take any convincing....I think because my periods are a bit irregular. I have to wait until cycle day 3 to have the bloods done. I also mentioned I wanted my thyroid checking as a few family members have underactive thyroid and I've been tired alot lately.
I think you should go to the doctor if you are worried...at least you can start the ball rolling!
