Hi (big wave)
So you clicked on here cos you were looking for me (I'm flattered!) or the title seemed interesting!
I'm aware it doesn't really explain but we are bunch of lovely ladies all TTC and going ever so slightly crazy with it! For more info see our original thread here - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/2412386-TTC-anxious-over-early-pregnancy-possible-symptoms?msgid=56357000#56357000

We are symptoms spotters extrodinaire - you name it we've had it, real and/or imagined Confused
We are here to help, we are all supportive, we laugh, rant, cry, joke, rage, smile, and comfort together. Be you a lurker or poster (established or new) then you are very welcome here. We only have a few rules:

  1. No judgement - we all lead different lives and have different standards and that is fine. You wanna get wasted everyday of TWW, that's fine. You wanna abstain completely, that's fine. We need support, not judgement.
  2. No feeling stupid - we've all had those months where we definitely think we are pg 110% convinced and then AF turns up, don't feel bad about it, it happens. Also we all have different levels of knowledge so no question is stupid apart from the one you don't ask.
  3. On this thread there is no such thing as TMI - we are all adults and we all know how miraculous and amazing... and downright disgusting our bodies can be, it's fine. Share what you want, we will not be fazed.

So that's it, jump in and FX'd for all my lovelies xx

Quick question (sorry for the slight TMI).

How do you tell the difference between AF and spotting?!

Basically I had one day where AF was light to medium. Since then, I haven't needed to use anything at all - it's just so light. Same last month too. Next to nothing at all but over about five days.

Would you be concerned about that? I've been constantly on BC for over ten years so I've forgotten what a normal AF is like...

Stupid question Im sure but I'm trying to gauge whether things are going back to normal or whether there are still hormones in my system screwing it up. No positive OPK yet either and its concerning me a bit.

PrtyPsn · 19/09/2015 21:55

Generally spotting doesn't require a pad, it's just when you wipe but then I've had heavier spotting where there's been a small amount on a pad but not enough to be AF.
I always think if you need to change your pad within four hours (because it's full, not just for hygiene obvs!) then it's AF. Not sure if this is useful or not... everyone's different

OP posts:
MummyBex1985 · 19/09/2015 22:28

Yes that is useful thank you Smile

I guess when you don't need pads at all and it's just blood on wiping that there might be a problem though Confused

Never thought I'd be wishing for AF to be heavier!!

LittleAindy · 19/09/2015 22:43

Bex when did you come off contraception? It took over a year with the pill 1st time and now after the injection for my periods to return and settle.

Lou13e · 20/09/2015 00:43

Hi ladies, just popping in to say hello and also congrats to the new bfps. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you all, prty - your foof is the craziest of all, super excited at the lines on your pic.

I'm 6 weeks pg now.. I use to think the 2ww was long but this is another level of long!

neetie1 · 20/09/2015 07:15

Urgh woke up feeling yukk, kinda feels like mild cramping and feel quite sick :( did a quick swab with cotton bud and it's creamy/browny ish so getting on the mind set that this month may not be the one :( but will see

PrtyPsn · 20/09/2015 07:54

Hi lou glad everything is going well :) it's a wait that's worth it for you though!
neetie that's crap to hear, have some chocolate and keep those FXd
In other news, someone slap me and keep me away from tests!! Did another cheapie dip strip type one (so three different brands now) same thing happened, a really faint almost colourless line within the allotted time that seems to get a hint of colour after the testing time is up. It was weaker than yesterday's though.
Tempted to get a twin pack and have OH POAS at the same time then watch them both side by side to try and rule out evaps!! I'm totally past cray cray now, ladies!!

OP posts:
LittleAindy · 20/09/2015 08:17

You know, Prty that's actually not a half bad idea. Like a proper Science experiment! If you've got enough cheapies, dip one in water, one in your pee and one in his. Put them side by side and see what happens.

I think you getting a line on 3 tests is unlikely to be a coincidence.

On a more serious note, have you got an early pregnancy unit number you can call? The NHS website will find the nearest one to you. I suggest this because you've bled, got positives and have started spotting again. Just give them a call and see what they say. Just to be cautious Smile

PrtyPsn · 20/09/2015 08:21

Feel like I'm back in GCSE science!
I do know the details for my local EPU but I've not really had a positive test, I still think they are evaps. If they were faint positives and I'm spotting now (had to put a pad on though so a but heavier) then I know what you're thinking, there's nothing they could do anyway. No pain or clots, just red blood, not massively bright but it's def not old brown stuff. Boobs hurt less today, more tender than sore

Sorry to intervene! I used to lurk on the TTC forums until getting pregnant. I like your thread and occasionally have a read to see how you're all doing! I wanted to comment on Prty's situation (feel free to tell me to get lost).

I was in a similar position to you, Prty, and it turned out to be a chemical pregnancy. For me, I tested early (about 12 DPO) and got a weak positive, continued to test and got stronger positives, then had a bleed after which the tests got fainter until I got a negative result. I hope this isn't the case for you and those positives are positives. IMO, the FRER test you posted is def not an evap- it looks totally positive to me (looks almost identical to my first + preg test)- the line is pink and in the right place. Hope it works out for you and something crazy has happened to your cycles and you've ov'ed at an unexpected time leading to those positive results. However, if it doesn't work out this time then it might be reassuring to know that I was pregnant (with a sticky baby) within two months of the chemical (and same situation happened to my sister who has just had her second baby, she conceived the month after a chemical and good friend who announced her pregnancy yesterday and had a chemical, again the month before the sticky one). I read something about increased fertility after chemical pregnancy's makes conception over the next couple of months much more likely. None-the-less, FX that this is it, and not a false alarm!

I'll do one now and stop intruding on your private chat (should probably get the washing on- snore!). Good luck everyone!

PrtyPsn · 20/09/2015 09:18

Hi carshare if you have been lurking then you will know you are more than welcome to post :)
Thanks for sharing your story, it's always good to get different views and interpretations.
Is it weird that if it is a chemical pregnancy and/or mc then apart from being devastated id also be a bit reassured that I can actually get pg?

OP posts:
CarShare · 20/09/2015 09:41

Yeah, I was mainly relieved that I was able to get pregnant. I have PCOS with very irregular cycles and had thought that we'd end up really struggling/using fertility treatment. I was a bit disappointed too but mainly hopeful that I'd have a successful pregnancy at some stage. I was also aware of how often things don't work out in the early stages and had geared myself up for the possibility it not working out when I first got the positive result. It all plays with your mind so much. It's hard to be positive when hormones are involved and it's something you want really badly but I feel really hopeful for you.

MummyBex1985 · 20/09/2015 09:43

Aindy I'm in my fifth month so there's probably a chance I'm not back to normal yet! The first two cycles were GRIM though - had every PG symptom under the sun.

Prty I totally agree with taking comfort from the fact you CAN get PG, as daft as it sounds! There's another plus side too - if you did have a chemical PG then lots of women report being extra fertile the following month so you could have a sticky one soon even if you don't think this one is viable!

I'd keep testing to see if the line gets stronger or weaker though just for peace of mind.

In other news, based on my last 35 day cycle, my app has decided my luteal phase is only 9 days?! How does it work that out - I'm not temping or anything Confused but if I have a short luteal phase and probably bugger all womb lining looking at recent AFs then it isn'tookig good is it?! Sad

PrtyPsn · 20/09/2015 09:52

Thanks bex :)
Are you recording CM on the app? That might make it guess a LP... 9 days does seem pretty short, wonder how it has decided that?

OP posts:
Pirsy1 · 20/09/2015 10:05

Prty I totally understand the feeling of relief knowing that you can get pregnant. I think until you know that there's always the thought in the back of your mind of 'what if I can't, what if it never happens.' When are you testing again? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a stronger line.

Bex that does sound like a short luteal phase. What did the app use to work that out? I read yesterday that most luteal phases are 14 days with a range of 12-16 days. That would make me think maybe the app has it wrong.

I also read yesterday that the lifespan of the ovum is said to be 24 hours but some studies have predicted it is as short as 17 hours, and that although sperm can survive for up to 7 days that less than 1% of sperm survive this long, in fact the mean lifespan is 1.5 days .... so we have to get pretty lucky with our timings!

MummyBex1985 · 20/09/2015 10:10

I use the Ovia app - I do note CM changes but based on that my luteal phase would be more like 20 days lol!! So no idea where the figures come from!

I had said that we'd take a break from it this month so I didn't end up due on my best friends wedding day (Im a bridesmaid) but now I'm not so sure! Wink

Pirsy1 · 20/09/2015 10:24

I don't know Bex, sounds a bit like crazy foofs again! How do you monitor your CM? I honestly can't notice much difference in mine but maybe Im just not 'tuned in' enough to it.

PrtyPsn · 20/09/2015 10:31

Thinking that I maybe need to test every other day pirsy but at the minute I can't stop POAS!! Who knows? Kinda depends on boob pain and spotting too but maybe tomorrow, getting obsessed!!

OP posts:
MummyBex1985 · 20/09/2015 10:42

Pirsy I don't get much CM at all so I have to go "exploring" (ahem). There isn't a huge amount of difference but it's definitely noticeable as the month changes IYSWIM.

Pirsy1 · 20/09/2015 11:00

I can totally understand Prty, I'd be in a frenzy of POAS if I was in your position I think! I'm guessing waiting til tomorrow on FMU will be most accurate if you can.

I think I'd have to 'explore' too Bex. Not sure I can be bothered - I'm feeling unmotivated! Think just going to ditch all monitoring and just keep trying for DTD every other day as long as we can keep it up. I'm also determined this month that Im not going to do any early testing!

Ok this is a totally crazy question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. Do you think hot water bottles are bad for fertility? I quite often have one and hold it on my tummy. I'm starting to imagine that I might have sort of 'fried' my Fallopian tubes, or be doing some other sort of damage? I know, I'm losing it ... I think I've had too much time in my own company this weekend.

PrtyPsn · 20/09/2015 11:08

I don't think it would cause too much of an issue pirsy even filled with boiling water I doubt the heat would penetrate that deeply, plus the temperature of it drops so it's not prolonged unbearable heat, I can't see it being damaging

OP posts:
Pirsy1 · 20/09/2015 11:12

Thanks Prty! I needed someone to talk some sense! Smile

PrtyPsn · 20/09/2015 11:23

Pahahaha!! ive not spoken sense since my boobs started hurting!! Glad to be of help though :)

OP posts:
MummyBex1985 · 20/09/2015 12:31

I think the heat thing is only an issue for men - it fries the swimmers! I've never read anything about it affecting female fertility but heat can cause MC I think - jacuzzis, spas etc are bad because the baby can't regulate its body temperature like you can.

neetie1 · 20/09/2015 17:24

Ok been at agility show all day so no time to post..although we got two 3rds :)

Sooo felt like I was going to throw up for the first two hours to the point head was down toilet etc..still very tight feeling, lots of clear/watery discharge/cm and when I swabbed again just now...clear
Day 23 of cycle
