Oh blimey, will take yonks to catch up, but I WILL do it! I just want to apologise for this morning's outrageously patronising and dogmatic posts about supplements. Sometimes, when I am fixated or excitable about summat, I can come across as bossy and imperious and I really don't mean to be. I'm sorry
I think it's just too easy to chuck a handful of random supps down our necks and be thankful we're actually doing something. What I'm trying to do is figure out - for all of us - what is the wheat and what is the chaff. I do worry we're being targeted by companies who would exploit us for our desperation to be pregnant. From what I've gleaned the essentials boil down to vit D, vit C, magnesium, zinc, selenium, co-enzyme q10, B-complex and omega fish oil. I don't think it's coincidence that this cocktail is what women would be advised to take whatever their circumstances; it's essential stuff. If you eat like Spinning and Sparkly et al you would hardly need any of the above, so I feel we have to be discerning and look at our ages and lifestyles and go with what we genuinely think our bodies may be lacking due to age or diet or existing conditions.
There seems to be great benefits to taking EPO and L-arginine and maca root and DHEA for some women, but it all costs money and there is nothing wrong with saying, 'well, I think DH needs that more than me so I'll stick with X and Y and Z, knowing that they are really building cells and nurturing my womb lining or whatever.'
I absolutely think it is horse shit what Zita West says about protein being acidic for the body - too acidic for the reproductive system. This woman is making millions from her book eschewing protein and I'm not prepared to believe that anything that comes from God's green earth can be detrimental to conception: eggs, milk, meat, poultry, herbs, veg, fruit. Can't go wrong. IMO. Sensible drinking has never, ever had an impact on reproduction down the ages. Don't believe the hype.
I also don't believe smoking impairs conception as much as a lack of vits and good diet.
