TTC with PCOS

Are there any other ladies out there trying to conceive with PCOS? Or any success stories of conceiving with PCOS?

We've been ttc and off of bc since August. Since then I've been diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin. I am overweight, especially for my height as I'm only short - but am trying to lose the weight. I'm almost at a 10% weight loss since getting the PCOS diagnosis in November 14. I haven't had any periods since coming off of bc in August 14, apart from what I'm guessing was a withdrawal bleed (that happened pretty much straight away - end of August) and a couple of very light bleeds that lasted no longer than a day.

I'm just feeling all a bit fed up now and think I need to hear from others that are either in a similar boat or have been able to have healthy normal pregnancies despite the PCOS.

Morning

I just found these on amazon, didn't realise that OPKs came in different strengths, will be good for anyone who has false LH surges as this should filter out the background constant LH that lots of us produce. I bought the 40mIU/mL

Rufus sorry to hear it's taking ages to get hold of the actual results. It's definitely a good thing that it's only one of you with an issue. Imagine if we were reliant on the menfolk to be as anal as women are about fertility! Grin

Popcorn will you be testing? I suppose one good thing about me not having natural cycles is I resist the urge to test every day (sometimes...)

AF arrived properly yesterday so I am starting on the clomid tonight. Very excited, but not building my hopes up thinking it will work first time. I've got an appointment for my scan next Thursday as that will be day 9. Not sure if that's a bit too early to see anything, judging by my 120+ day normal cycles, but that's what the doctor asked for so hopefully it'll be ok. How amazing would it be to see your baby as a follicle then to a proper baby?! What did I say about not getting carried away?? Grin

Sorry about the double post - the app is playing up!

Rufus200 · 14/05/2015 13:33

Finally got DH's results but they emailed them to me so he was VERY cross about his patient confidentiality being broken, he would have shared them with me anyway but wanted time to look at them 1st. I can't believe that they consider 87% abnormal ok! I've attached them.
Having pain on both ovaries, started DTD every other day last night. This morning had blood in my ewcm which was the 1st time that has ever happened! Not sure why Confused No LH surge yet either.

mistletoeprickles · 14/05/2015 17:41

Refus glad you finally got the results for you to see. I'm no expert in them though. I remember spending hours googling the results though!

Ab AF arrived for me too yesterday so I'll be starting tonight too and dreading it because I'm on double does this time.

Rang to book a tracking scan yesterday and was told by an answer phone message that they aren't doing the tracking scans anymore. So I'm concerned about over stimulation. 50mg didn't work at all but I liked the fact that I was scanned so I knew it hadn't work, in the same sense I'd like to know if it has worked. I shall give ovulation sticks a try but I've never used them before. I can have a blood test at day 21 but the results wont be back until day 28. I think I'm just too impatient!

PopcornPip · 14/05/2015 18:53

Hey ab I'll test on the weekend. I am managing to resist the urge at the moment as I'm fairly sure AF is en route.
Having said that, if she doesn't appear it it might just be me skipping a month Sad

AbFab86 · 15/05/2015 07:08

Good luck mistletoe, hope it's not too bad for you this time.

Popcorn well done for resisting! I hope it's not a missed cycle for you.

I took my first clomid last night (cd2). Little bit of ovary discomfort this morning. Weird though - after arriving with a bang on Wednesday, AF seems to have completely stopped now Blush Wasn't sure if that meant I shouldn't take the clomid, but it was definite bleeding on Wednesday. Why can't things just be normal and straight forward?!?

RoseBud2015 · 15/05/2015 10:24

Itis Could the cramping be implantation rather than AF?! It's always a possibility! How are you feeling now?

Rufus I also get confused with the SA analysis results! But looking at your DH's concentration; 170 million count compared to my DH's 14 million count.... you win hands down even if you do have 87% abnormal. I think if the doctors say its all "normal" we just have to go with it even if our common sense is saying otherwise. It's so hard though!

Ab and Mistletoe You are both 1 day behind me with the clomid! I'm on CD4 (evening 3 of clomid tonight!). So far I have had a bit of a headache and some cramping but nothing more. I go on a hen do this evening for the whole weekend so I really hope the side effects don't suddenly hit me and I scare off (or piss off) my friend's friends! Grin

Mistletoe I completely understand your concerns about not having a scan! I would feel the same- why would they stop doing them?! Odd!

Ab I had the same thing with AF. Medium flow on cd1, nothing for most of cd2, then light flow cd3 and 4! I was expecting a really painful and heavy AF after the progesterone, but nope! However I have noticed I am mega tired all the time at the mo- is that a side effect?

RoseBud2015 · 15/05/2015 10:26

Popcorn Flowers What cd are you? Have you got some nice plans this weekend to help take your mind off impending AF/testing?

mistletoeprickles · 15/05/2015 10:59

Cd3 here and wow its a sod of an AF. Not a lot of bleeding but my god its painful. Normally I just get a fee niggles here and there but seems to either be back or tummy pain continuously.
Started clomid last night on 100mg this cycle.
DP and I have discussed the possible over stimulation in a lot of detail and have come to the conclusion that if I do over stimulate what are the chances of him having multiple good sperm in the right place at the right time.
I've ordered my ovulation strips this morning so will see if they work for me.

rose I hope you have a nice weekend

Rufus200 · 15/05/2015 11:21

AbFab it is normal for AF to stop with clomid, so don't worry.

Mistletoe I wouldn't worry too much about overstimulation, I'm thinking the more eggs released the better chance. I would have been happy if my 4 follicles last cycle had matured as each only has a 25% chance. If you need any help reading OPKs just post on here. I was struggling until I got a really strong +ve and knew just how dark they could go. Clomid should remove any false +ve.

AbFab86 · 15/05/2015 15:22

It's so cool knowing there are a few of us on clomid at the same time Smile I haven't felt bad at all today, just tired. FX the side effects stay away! I'm very much looking forward to OPKs actually working. What time do you ladies tend to test with them? I've read mid morning is best but not the easiest to do at work!

Rufus200 · 15/05/2015 20:27

AbFab I test on FMU then when I get a positive, I test in the afternoon to make sure still positive. I do get negatives on FMU though, so depends how much background LH you produce. I test with clear blue and cheap OPKs, with the cheapies I can see the colour difference so know how strong it is. I'm waiting for my 40mIU/mL to arrive and will use them as well.

PopcornPip · 15/05/2015 22:07

Hey guys, I gave in and POAS this morning. BFN.
AF arrived a couple of hours later. D'oh.

AbFab86 · 16/05/2015 06:55

Oh I'm sorry Popcorn Sad How crap. Taking the positives from it though - you're having somewhat regular cycles. That has to be a good sign right? Right?!?

Rufus I've tested with fmu before and it gives a medium darkness sort of line, so I guess that'd work if I got a dark line. I know they need to be the same darkness as the control line with the cheapies. I'm temping this cycle too. So far been 35.6, 35.8 and 36. If I wasn't on cd3 I'd be predicting ov!! Grin

PopcornPip · 16/05/2015 15:51

Thanks ab I'm ok, relieved I didn't miss this month anyhow.
How are you finding temping? I just don't think I'd manage to do it consistently enough for it to be effective! useless

Ain626 · 16/05/2015 19:11

I've been thinking about temping too, but also don't think I'd be able to do it effectively.

I'm currently on CD17. Took soy isoflavones this cycle and had strongest signs of ovulating on CD11. Now trying not to symptom spot which is not going well today!

Hope clomid is being kind to you lovely ladies that are taking it.

Still haven't got my referral letter. Feels like it's been an eternity since the GP agreed to refer me, but in reality it's been just over month. If it doesn't arrive next week I'll call up the week after - half term week for me.

AbFab86 · 17/05/2015 09:35

I'm actually finding temping ok now I know there should be some sort of cycle. I did it before the clomid and it was just depressing watching it rise and fall with no apparent pattern for weeks on end. I will be very excited if I get a proper peak this time Smile

I leave the thermometer next to my bed (away from mischievous kitty paws) and do it just after I've switched my alarm off. If I don't leave it out and visible I forget to do it, then find myself in the bathroom half awake thinking 'well there's another day wasted..' Grin

Touch wood so far the clomid doesn't seem to have had any side effects. I've been tired but then I think I would've been tired anyway. Made sure I got to sleep loads over the weekend, which was great! Been having very vivid dreams.

Ain I'd be interested to know how you get on with the soy isoflavone. I've never tried it but heard it can be quite useful with PCOS. Hope it works for you! Hope the 2ww goes quickly!

RoseBud2015 · 17/05/2015 20:04

Mistletoe I hope painful AF is behind you now? How have the last couple of days on clomid been? I had a fab weekend thanks! I laughed and danced A LOT! Smile

Popcorn on the positive side at least now AF has arrived you're onto your next cycle! Every cloud..... Grin I temp, and love the knowledge it gives me about my (non-existent) cycles! It mean't I knew I wasn't ov'ing weeks before my doc had worked it out! Now i'm just praying for a sustained temp shift in the next few days- fingers crossed!

Ab Like you I have had very few side effects. A bit of cramping and some ovary twinges on both sides but nothing much! If I'm honest, I don't think 50mg clomid has had enough of an impact on me so I'm not holding out much hope for my follicle scan on Thursday. How about you?
I do opks straight after work at about 4:30pm, and then again in the evening if I think it's likely to show a surge! I've stocked up ready for next week Wink

Ain definitely chase your referral appointment letter up- it shouldn't take that long to be allocated an appointment time! Fingers crossed they haven't lost your referral, like they did me!

Last clomid tablet of this cycle in a couple of hours, for me Grin Grin Grin

AbFab86 · 18/05/2015 05:32

Ooh Rosebud we have our scans on the same day! What time is yours? Mine is around 2 Dubai time so around 11 UK time. FX for some huge follicles! I was doing some reading about ovulation last night and it said a mature follicle is the size of a grape! What the hell?! That's huge! Starting to think I've not ovulated in years!

I don't know if it's a side effect of the clomid but I've been finding it really hard to get to sleep. I'm not wired and I'm quite relaxed in bed, so not like restless cantsleepiness. Could just be work! Haven't had any bad moods though and I'm hoping that remains the case throughout the month!

I'm not sure it'll have much impact either on 50mg. I might be surprised so I'm keeping an open mind. My friend didn't have any symptoms on clomid either and conceived first time so I don't think the lack of symptoms is necessarily a bad sign. Hopefully! I've got 100s of IC OPKs ready to start pretty much as soon as I've come off the clomid (last tablet tonight). Too early I know but I wouldn't have a clue when I'd 'normally' ovulate so don't want to miss it.

mistletoeprickles · 18/05/2015 09:24

Rose luckily AF didn't hang around too long which I am grateful for because it was the worst in years! I'm glad you had a good weekend.

I'm very jealous of all you having scans as my PCT has now made them unavailable

I'm another one who has stocked up on OPK's. I've got no idea when I could ovulate. I'm going to start on testing Thursday which will only be day 9 but I don't want to risk missing it. DP has also been given his orders!

AbFab86 · 18/05/2015 16:24

Mistletoe I've no idea if my PCT in the UK would offer scans, but here I've got very good health cover (thankfully!) so they will give you anything you want as long as they can charge your insurersGrin Health care has to be private here or nothing, so employers have to give you insurance. Am making the most of it!

Well I don't know whether it's the clomid or just a rubbish day, but I've been in a terrible mood and my patience has worn thinner as the day has progressed. Currently eating a lot of chocolate based products Grin

Ginfizz90 · 18/05/2015 17:50

Hi everyone! So little update from me FF put dotted cross hairs for ov on cd 13 based on my temps however I'm really not sure I oved.
Now I'm cd 22 positive opk (darker than control line) and ewcm! I've never had it before so really noticeable to me!! So confuesed don't know what's going on. My temp has gone down so unless it peaks again in a day or two I don't know what the hell my body is up to

Ginfizz90 · 18/05/2015 17:52

Oh and really tender on left side of ovary area! Could be cysts rearing their ugly head I guess
