Do pregnancy tests stop working after you're a certain amount of weeks?

Hi there, I was reading on the Internet that you can get a false negative if you've tested too late in your pregnancy because the tests only have a certain amount of HCG they pick up on.

How true is this? Thank you :)

They both look like opk tests. Whenever I have got cheapies the green ones have been for ovulation and the blue ones for pregnancy. The other one looks like a test stick for the clear blue monitor.I have used a lot of piss sticks! Get a proper pregnancy test. If you are 10 weeks pregnant 99.9% says you will get a positive result. If you get a negative you need to see a doctor about your symptoms and your missing period. You can get a cheap pregnancy test in poundland or get a digital if you need to see it in black and white.

Actually the green one was a preg test, it says hcg on your photo but I don't see a second line.

Almost positive it would still be showing a positive result at 10wks...its very very rare that it would be showing negative, the first strip is flooded and I see no second line and the second test looks like an opk as been said. Best bet is gp because testing is just not helping you really, you will need a blood test.

Sorry I meant Jade not kitty!

Hi Jade I am getting more and more confused as the HCG ONE brand picture of a test you last posted looks like this opened normally - not the one you posted before that looks like a Clearblue OPK...

I am so sorry that your GP can't fit you in today but unless you tell them it is for an emergency appointment they won't put you in as a priority. With the information you have given in this thread and in previous threads, I think that you may have to start 'bending the truth' so that you get seen.

It is highly unlikely you are still pregnant as, if I remember correctly, you got fairly good HPT BFP results back in August but a few days later, you had bleeding and then negative tests afterwards. (I am so sorry about this - I have been through the same and it is horrendous. Coupled with splitting up with your partner and I can see why you don't know if you are coming or going Thanks )

If your cycle has not reverted back to normal by now, then I think you have grounds to go to an EPU or similar (if you can take the day off work, you should be able to "walk-in" tomorrow morning for a slot the same day) and say that you are worried that there may be something wrong and you have been experiencing some cramping still, after a suspected chemical pregnancy back in August and would like to be checked out urgently.
They can tell you once and for all, if there is still a viable pregnancy or not. Either way, they can also advise you in case anything is wrong as to why you have not had a proper AF.
Otherwise, you can wait to see the GP on Friday - they will book you in for blood tests a few days later and you will get the results a few days after that.

An EPU - is that at the hospital? Because I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't just accept me lol, not unless I ring them beforehand and explain..?

Most epu clinics will not take walk ins. Some do. Phone and ask. Round here you need a gp referral. Why not just see your doctor?

Kits, I do have an appointment but on Friday... I'm far too impatient to wait lol

Try a digital pregnancy test. For a tenner your impatience could be satisfied this afternoon!

Babiecakes, I have a scan booked on Friday, I didn't know whether I should just wait. But on the other hand, I don't want to see maternity things if it's not the news I want to hear, like you said. I think my EPU might do walk ins but they'll probably just tell me to wait until Friday anyway. I Had a chemical pregnancy a year ago. This is the first time me and my (ex) partner have gotten close to it being possible. X

Whereabouts are you Jade? I know of three hospital EPUs in London that take walk-ins in the morning only. I've needed them in the past

Where is your scan booked in on Friday? I.e. is it at an EPU or similar? If it is, then I'd wait till then. It's only two days away.
Otherwise, if it is a GP Doctor's appointment, they won't have the facilities to scan you...

I'm in Northamptonshire Kitty. I went to the doctors today on the advice of everyone on here, they managed to fit me in as a matter of urgency because I've begun spotting again... 3 days late of when my 'period' should be. And it's not even touching a pad, but I thought I'd go and see what he says. He's managed to fit me in for a scan first thing Thursday morning, but said if the bleeding gets heavier go to A&E and ring the EPU in the morning to see if they have any cancellations tomorrow, because tomorrow was fully booked. I told him my whole situation & because it's really light, he said its likely I still could be pregnant...!!! I said about Friday too, that I've got a scan booked, and he said he wanted me checked before then... So everything looks pretty positive (regardless of the bleeding)!

Also if you get should tip pain, prune colour bleeding or pain. Then go to A&E as ectopic pregnancies can give negative tests and fluctuating levels. You are not out of the danger zone for this possibility, so be careful .

I hope it us good news for you on Thursday.

Thank you girls... Out of curiosity I was feeling down on my lower stomach and my right side is a lot harder/bigger than my left. My left is quite squishy. Is this a good sign??
