Sperm and Wee

Just wanted to know something. Once dh delivers his sperm to me and I stay with legs in air for about 20 minutes, after I normally like to go for a wee. Obviously sperm comes out but I don't understand how people say spem lives for up to 5 days when you "wee" it out?

Sorry if being thick!!!

lol @ 'delivers his sperm to me'

Endlesslove - quick anatomy lesson here. You have three holes - one for poo, one for wee, and one for reproduction.

endlesslove · 26/09/2006 13:42

Yes I know that!

But obviously with gravity and all that some comes out when you go for a wee! So how does it live for up to 5 days when its come out?

Endless love, are you taking the wee out of us...?

NomDePlume · 26/09/2006 13:42

Not all of it comes out.

Gobbledigook · 26/09/2006 13:43

It doesn't come out!! The sperm is released right at the cervix and 'swims' up through your uterus and into the fallopian tubes. It doesn't fall out!

beckybrastraps · 26/09/2006 13:43

You see? This is what I talk about on the "what shall I call my dd's girly bits?" threads. It's why I favour the much derided "wee-hole, poo-hole, baby-hole" nomenclature. Grown women think they wee out of their vagina.

endlesslove · 26/09/2006 13:43

LOL - I am laughing so much, my colleauge has just asked me what I am looking at! Haven't told the man colleauge as he doesn't know i'm ttc but shrugged it off!

Gobbledigook · 26/09/2006 13:44

They don't? Surely?

beckybrastraps · 26/09/2006 13:44

Ah, have caught up. My apologies endlesslove.

Blandmum · 26/09/2006 13:44

You have three holes.

look at this picture

The pee comes out of your Urethra

The penis goes into the vagina, and the sperm is 'deposited' there. It then swims up into the uterus, and into the fallopian tube where it might meet with an egg coming down the other way.

For most of It's life the sperm is swimming up the uterus

tee-hee

If it's the middle of your cycle, some semen will have got through your cervix into your womb. Some may be left in your vagina and it is likely to slip out if you go for a wee.

If you enjoy the delivery process to the max, the semen is more likely to stay in there.

Blandmum · 26/09/2006 13:46

some of the sperm do die. But a man ejaculates 300,000,000 sperm with one shot. It just takes one to get you pregnant.

He ejeculates enough sperm in one shot to fertilise every fertile woman in western europe.

They make 1000-2000 new sperm every second!

Blandmum · 26/09/2006 13:47

Yes, if you orgasm, the muscular contractions of the uterus dip the cervix into and out of the semen, increasing the chances that the sperm get through the cervix.

It is quite amazing, and I've seen video footage!

Gobbledigook · 26/09/2006 13:49

No, I know NDP, but the majority stays up there!

LOL at Carolina!

mb - let's keep that nugget of info to ourselves shall we. Don't want the men finding out that sort of thing!

Babymad4num3 · 26/09/2006 13:49

It dosen't work like that! You wee out of your urethral and the sperm gose into your vagina then hopfully cervix and uterus!

Gobbledigook · 26/09/2006 13:49

And the cervical mucus also changes during your cycle so that during your fertile period it is easier for the sperm to get where they are going iyswim!

endlesslove · 26/09/2006 13:50

Sorry Shimmy21, no not taking the wee, just curious as never really understood how sperm can live for up to 5 days. Its so fasinating how the body works.

Gobbledigook - thanks for putting it in plain english.

Now I am worried as what is coming out when I go for a wee! I know it is not just wee as its thicker (sorry if TMI!).

Please don't think I haven't had sex education but sometimes these little queries pop into my head!

I've just taught sex ed to the sixth form

I'm full of factoids now!

Did you know that before a man ejaculates, he first flushes out his urethra with a liquid that neutralises any remaining urine so that it doesn't damage the ssperm?

And we say they can't multi task, eh?

NomDePlume · 26/09/2006 13:51

That sounds like what we used to call 'pre-cum'

Blandmum · 26/09/2006 13:51

FIo2 That was the one...Robert Winston made the film. Quite amazing. We use bits in school and the kids find it amazing, when not giggling or fainting!
