  2. How old were you?
  3. What form of birth control were you using when you got together with the child(ren)'s father?
  4. Have you had problems with recurrent miscarriages?

Answers from all, whether it was easy or hard to conceive! I'll explain the why's of the questions once I get a load of answers.

Sorry Zebra, I've only just read your second message and realise that I haven't answered the question properly. When I first got together with children's father, I wasn't using contraception at all and didn't need it for another 6 months or so. Both of us were very slow off the mark sexually! Innocent days!

Very interesting zebra - dh is quite sweaty, but I don't find him offensive in any way, whereas I did dislike the smell of a couple of old boyfriends (and I took a few contraceptive chances with them too but thankfully no pg at those times!) I also definitely get that fancying dh far more when I am ovulating thing, so I reckon hormones probably do know what they are doing when left to themselves .

Some results... only 54 replies, so don't take this too seriously! I didn't try to control for age (not that it seemed to stand out as a predictor). So:
54 women replied.
32 were on usual birth control when they got together with their partner.
Avg. months ttc if you were using any hormonal-type BC when you got together with partner: 4.8.
Avg. months ttc if you were using the pill specifically when you got together: 5.2.
Avg. months ttc if not using hormonal BC when you got together with partner: 12 (unless I take out the only infertile person to reply, in which case it plummets to 4.4).
Miscarriages among those on the pill when they got together with partner: 11 of 57 pregnancies, or 19.3%.
Miscarriages among those not on any hormonal contraception when they got together with partner: 6 among 43 pregnancies, or just 14%.

The sample sizes are very small... but it does seem like maybe those on the pill when they got together ("fell in love", all that) with their partners do take slightly longer to get pregnant, and have slightly more chance of miscarriage. Very small differences, though, really.

I'm just amazed at how fertile most of us are!
