Anyone else trying from September?

Hi,my partner and I will be trying for our first baby in September. He is 33 and I am 31. I come from a huge family, 10 siblings in fact, and all apart from one (and myself) have children. Christmas is expensive! All of my siblings had their children before the age I am now, but hoping things will go smoothly.

My partner wants a June baby, which is why we aren't trying until September, but he won't listen when I tell him it is unlikely I will get pregnant in the first month!

I was very nervous about it all until a few weeks ago and am now looking forward to it. Is anyone else trying from September onwards?

Forgot to add.....Agnus Castus is a natural remedy to ensure a regular cycle. There's several threads on here about it. Lots of people don't advise it, but others do. So I guess it's down to individual research.

greeneone12 · 06/08/2013 14:45

I got them because of the pregnancy. I am just not sure I can cope with so much testing, monitoring etc. Luckily my cycles are always like clockwork so I guess I won't need to do. Slightly scared the procedure I had might have made it go a bit crazy though.

So from your symptom spotting how do you know when your ovulating without taking a test? I find this all fascinating as have never really given it much thought before.

Good to know what Agnus Castus is! We got pregnant first time after a holiday abroad for a wedding :)

jaykay987 · 06/08/2013 15:22

The only ways I know of (I'm sure there are more) are:

  • egg white cervical mucus (EWCM)
  • drop in bbt (identified by three temps higher than the previous 6)(temps)
  • opks
  • blood tests ( though obviously you can't do this at home! Grin)

Unfortunately we're not away for my fertile period - just for the end of the Tww!

greeneone12 · 06/08/2013 15:39

My goodness. Think I might just go with the every other day system as I am far too scatty to monitor all that :)

Have a lovely holiday and enjoy the wedding. Hey your thread is now over 2 pages - hooray!

Speaking of ovulation kits, have any of you tried the more basic looking ones that you can get on amazon? Prices are between £3 and £8 for packs of 15-50 sticks.

newforest · 06/08/2013 17:36

I haven't bought any ovulation sticks yet - don't know if I dare! I'm just taking Boots basic folic acid and nothing else. Trying to cut down on the caffeine too, though that's not so easy. Decaff tea is gross!

I'm not convinced by them just yet either, I think we will try for a couple of months with no 'help' and see what happens! Also trying to cut down on the caffeine, decaff is the work of the devil and MAY not actually be better for you depending on how the caffeine is extracted. There is a chemical process that is used on some kinds apparently!

dutchss · 06/08/2013 22:50

I'm too excited to not use opk's!! Having great fun! Still waiting for it to havea high but I am testing too early. Just too excited! I am taking the morrisons pregnancy vitamins. Trying to do lots of excercise and eat healthily. Just bought some cheapo and clear blue opk's on amazon. We'll see xx

greeneone12 · 07/08/2013 07:52

That's the thing Dutchss as long as things stay fun that's what's important! I bought my vits yesterday :) Can't wait to get back to zumba. I have really missed it.

Daysies I heard that about decaffeinated tea and coffee the other day. Think I might stick to caffeinated tea once in the morning then water/hot squash the rest of the day. Can't live without tea completely!

greeneone12 · 07/08/2013 07:54

For OPK tests you might like to look here www.zoombaby.co.uk. Much cheaper than supermarkets and you get a free preg test and sweets!!

Hello all! I was directed here by Greene waves from another thread. I can't wait! I'm 29, my DH is 31 and we've been married 5 years in September. We've been waiting to TTC as I'm going into my last year of uni (part time) this year so wanted to make sure I wasn't due during my exams! If it happens 1st time we'll be cutting it fine, but I'm ok with that!

I've been charting since February and using OPK's - just the cheapy ones you can buy in a batch from Amazon and eBay. Apart from the month I ended up in hospital with gastroenteritis Hmm, my cycles have got themselves settled after almost 14 years on and off the pill (mainly on though).

I've been taking the boots pre-conception tablets for a little while now; I've never taken multivitamins before and read that it can take a while for you're body to build up stores, so thought what's the harm Smile

ItsSoFluffyImGonnaDie · 07/08/2013 14:17

That's mean to be , sorry!

greeneone12 · 07/08/2013 14:20

What are you studying ItsSoFluffy?

I was 29 when I had my daughter :) Do you have any tips and tricks where OPK's are concerned?

Welcome. Really thankful to newforest for starting this thread and will stop hogging it now!

Nicenurse · 07/08/2013 14:23

Just made the decision to try for a third child (eek!) and have started taking Folic acid. Any older mums? I'm 38 but healthy and fit, just keeping fingers crossed that it will happen for us. This will definitely be our last. Good luck, everyone x

dontsqueezetheteabag · 07/08/2013 14:26

Me toooo!!!! Dh and I will be 2 years married in September. Bought a new house and are ready to go for it. Waiting til after my sisters wedding on 21st September. Came off the pill after 15 years in may so af still settling down and getting back to normal.

Daysies · 07/08/2013 14:41

So lovely that there is a group of us! And a few weddings coming up too!

dutchss · 07/08/2013 18:34

Greeneone you are right. I love Zumba too! Go once a week when I can make but always try to go to netball.
I'm 27 so hoping there is lots of time if everything is not quite right down there...

ItsSoFluffyImGonnaDie · 07/08/2013 19:51

Greene it's my birthday in November so I'll definitely be at least 30, but 29 is a good age to start! Grin

I've been studying for a degree in estate management for the last 4 years, the finishing line is now in sight, can't believe how quickly it's actually gone.

As for OPK's, i test everyday starting on the first day of EWCM, so only tend to use 5 or 6 a month. I do it when I get home from work, apparently between 10am and 8pm is the ultimate time?

Has anyone else taken the Boots tablets? If not, just a word of warning- if I take one on an empty stomach it makes me feel like I'm going to be sick within about 10 minutes! Bleugh

greeneone12 · 07/08/2013 19:54

Wow 4 years! That's tough going! Congrats on getting near the finish line. Good advice about opk thanks!

The vitabiotics conception ones say to take them on a full stomach.

LaceyLee · 07/08/2013 20:51

My husband and I have also just started, although realistically first proper go is going to be next month....quite apprehensive...is our first, I am 29 and he is 27. Really no idea what to expect but very excited as well :-))

newforest · 07/08/2013 21:34

Hog away Greenone :) !

I'm scared now about the decaff stuff. Just bought some decaff coffee today too. Maybe I'll just have to have fewer cups of real tea!

Looking forward to seeing how we all get on over the next few months! Good luck to those getting married.

ItsSoFluffyImGonnaDie · 07/08/2013 22:45

Wow, I'm really glad I don't like coffee! Just a few cups of tea a day for me so not too bad on the caffeine levels.

Dutchss I play netball too - do you play for a team? I've just recently gone back to it, but I've played hockey since I was 13.

crazyaccountant · 08/08/2013 19:43

Well last night I should have started my next pill pack but decision made and I'm off! Slightly nervous of what will happen with the return (hopefully!) of my natural periods after 15 years on the pill but hoping I might feel better overall as never been that convinced that the pill totally suited me! Here goes......

Danielle1588 · 10/08/2013 09:44

I was also going to try sept but we started aug as its not as simple for some to get preg. I'm 24 so hope age on my side x

dutchss · 10/08/2013 23:59

It's so fluffy- not just yet,,it is a just for fun team but some of them play in a league and said I should join. I had my first positive opk yesterday!! I did that one with a clear blue one, previously had been the cheapo ones off amazon and was scared they had not been working but I used one at the same time as clear blue and both worked. So quite excited!! Nice to see a fair few first timers too! So nervous about how it will all work out but both want it so much xxx
