While we're on this topic, does anyone know - is it true that saliva kills sperm? If oral sex is involved in foreplay, could it really affect chances of conception? I didn't think the amount of fluid, err, exchanged would make a difference but I have heard something like that before...

Tea1Sugar · 19/08/2013 17:44

Yes saliva should be avoided.

Damn...

helloelo · 19/08/2013 18:00

Wait. Whaaaaaaat?!
(sorry, hi, I know I'm no a reg in this thread but...)
Sh*t! What do you mean saliva should be avoided? As in neither me or him should have oral foreplay (receiver / receivee - you know what I mean)? Oh God, I need a glass of wine.

VJONES1985 · 19/08/2013 18:02

That's right...

JellyBeanDavey · 19/08/2013 18:33

What the nugget!! No oral foreplay!! If wow that sucks!

JellyBeanDavey · 19/08/2013 18:33

Oh... Excuse the pun! Grin

VJONES1985 · 19/08/2013 18:39

Heh heh. What a blow... ;)

helloelo · 19/08/2013 19:27

Ok, I researched that a bit because TTC sex is already quite annoying without having to jump on the pole without greasing it first (er... yeah, I know what I mean).

Oxford Journals says that yes, saliva affects sperm mobility. But it needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. Concentration used in the lab (drowning mixing sperm and saliva in a Petri dish) was quite enormous compared to a little bit of spit left at the entry of the vagina after oral sex on a woman. And when we compare it to what would be left on the penis of a man after a BJ, well, that's just not comparable. Plus, don't forget sperm is shot up at a quite high velocity quite close to the cervix. Unless your DP's kink is to spit on your cervix, well, don't worry too much about it.

Don't forget, PreSeed is aggressively trying to sell their stuff and with the right budget, posting stuff everywhere that spiting is a no no but their lube is a yes yes is quite common.

Now, I completely respect the ones trying to be careful and not leaving any chance but my DP might go on a TTC strike if I stop the all mighty BJ so I prefer to carry on :)

VJONES1985 · 19/08/2013 19:31

Ha ha! That made me laugh!

JellyBeanDavey · 19/08/2013 21:10

helloelo you are my hero!

keepswimming1 · 19/08/2013 21:49

excellent.. funny as.
:)
I think we are all bonkers lol

VJONES1985 · 19/08/2013 21:53

TTC sends you loopy...

helloelo · 19/08/2013 22:01

Thank God your response is a positive one. Of course, TTC means I am bonkers too, POAS way too early for it to even mean something, doing headstands (literally), etc. but sometimes my scientific training kicks in, albeit almost never between 7DPO and 14DPO
Good luck everyone :)

snoozysleeper · 20/08/2013 00:03

Interesting reading here tonight

bushprincess · 20/08/2013 10:36

haha.. thanks helloelo for the info... glad that we don't need to worry too much on that account...DH needs all the encouragement he can get at the moment Sad ...probably my fault for turning into a TTC nut job and demanding nightly performances!

fifi669 · 20/08/2013 15:36

Think ov is over, entering TWW today.....

Now what? There should be some games to keep us occupied.....for two weeks.....

VJONES1985 · 20/08/2013 17:01

Got third positive opk in a row today but much less ewcm than yesterday so I guess I'll be joining you guys tomorrow (?). Hope we manage to find a game to keep us occupied!

VJONES1985 · 20/08/2013 18:46

Feeling negative today :( Until now I've been really positive but today I found out that a few days of positive opks could mean an LH surge but may not actually result in ov. So now I'm convinced it's not gonna happen Sad

fifi669 · 20/08/2013 18:49

Any LH surge may not result in ovulation, not everyone does every month. Don't panic!

VJONES1985 · 20/08/2013 18:54

I know but it's my first month off the pill so was hoping it'd happen. Plus I've had other symptoms (sore nipples, lots if ewcm, something that looked like ov bleeding, feeling hot).

fifi669 · 20/08/2013 18:56

The pill can take time to get out of your system, I don't know if you've already been told that? It can mess with your cycles. Hopefully yours will return to normal asap

VJONES1985 · 20/08/2013 19:00

Yeah, I had been told that but thought all the signs of ovulation meant that I will actually ovulate. So bit sad to find out it may not mean that at all. Ah well, I'll get over it!

Tea1Sugar · 20/08/2013 19:01

Vjones - relax! It's your first month! Lots of people (me included) don't ovulate the first month. I got my bfp the second cycle, if it doesn't work for you this month, sure it will the second.

VJONES1985 · 20/08/2013 19:08

Sorry, just having a bad one today. I get carried away with symptoms and I know deep down they're probably just related to stopping the pill. Feeling emotional today, which doesn't help, plus sick, tired and hot. Please excuse me!! :(
