Halle Berry Pregnant at 46!!

The DM is reporting that HB is pregnant at 46! This is excellent news for us old uns trying to do the same. I'm sick of reading about how difficult it is over 40, how dangerous it is/high risk, how selfish it is, bla bla bla negativity. Congratulations Halle, wishing you a joyous pregnancy and healthy baby. This gives me hope and inspiration....it's not over for me yet..... :-)

I was thinking about this the other day. So many slebs don't tell the truth about older pregnancies, for example that they used donor eggs. I read an article in the fertility clinic the other day about the Desperate Housewives actress who had twins at 44, using donor eggs, and she is one of the,only ones to be honest and open about it. She also made it clear how very difficult getting and staying pregnant in your 40s is, unless you're one if the lucky few. Hats off to her.

That said, I don't know if Halle's pregnancy is natural or ivf. People are saying it's a late surprise. Pretty amazing! :)

So by being beautiful she's more likely to have conceived naturally at 46?

It is annoying when celebs don't speak more honestly. It's the same when they all conceive twins. There must be more twins in Hollywood than everywhere else on the planet.

If you Google celebrities and twins and 40s, they apparently they all deny it.

Why can't they be more honest . It's like they think infertility is a massive failing, an admission they are no longer in their 20s.

Well nowadays yes, unless they're identical. And there's nothing wrong with thinking that.

My BIL's mother was listening to us talking about my other BIL's twins and she asked "Are they natural or IVF?" One part of me wanted to say "Mind your own bloody business," and another part wanted to say, "IVF. Why?" I did the second one, thankfully.

Even identical twins can be IVF you know. Just saying.

The liklihood of id twins is actually higher with IVF, particularly if ICSI is used. The thinking is that the insertion of the needle carrying the sperm makees it easier for the embryo to divide.

I remember reading a lovely story on here about someone who'd self-funded IVF and only had enough money for one embryo transfer - so they were delighted to have twins.

Never knew that about id twins.

Some friends had a last "using up both remaining embryos" IVF cycle that resulted in triplets. They were hoping for a singleton!

I was told by my GP that twins are more likely in over 40 women.

I had my third DC at age of 42. The pg was OK but OMG the night feeds nearly killed me. There was a definite difference from the first at 34 yrs and the 3rd at 42.

cece It's supposed to be that in the death throes of your fertility your ovaries go in to double-time and start spitting them out in the final spurts of desperation.

My mw however told me it wasn't over 40, so much as over 43/44.

I think as you get older you're better at living your daytime at a better pace - i.e., you find it easier to say "fuck off, I'm not doing that, I'm going to sit here with a cup of milk and some Jilly Cooper"- but I wouldn't fancy night feeds age 48. Otoh... should I be paying for IVF at 48 I can probably afford a night nurse too! Halle Berry et al will probably rise fresh as a daisy at 10am as they always have.

I think my GP was trying to put me off - it was just a small part of quite a long lecture on the dangers of having a baby in your 40s.
