Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

The ongoing search for BFPs now leads the BESH to the barren polar wastes, in the footsteps of Scott, Shackleton and Franklin.

Pack those reindeer sleeping bags, huskies and skis - we're off to the Antarctic to look for our BFPs. Unlike Scott, we'll eat the poniez if necessary (topical joke). Let's huddle together through the Antarctic night and we'll try not to kidnap one of the emperor penguin toddlers for our very own. Bring on blizzards, pack ice, shipwreck, attacking leopard seals, voyages across the Southern Ocean in rowing boats and hazardous traverses of South Georgia in search of rescue - just like the Shackleton expedition, NO BESH WILL BE LEFT BEHIND.

(do I win the prize for most random fred ever?)

So sorry rasberry many condolences. It must be particularly horrid not to be able to get to your mum, because it does sound like she needs someone.

And bugs hiding seems sensible might do the same if I work out how there is no need in torturing yourself.

EuroShaggleton · 24/02/2013 18:27

bugs I don't blame you. I never even looked at the PESH thread until a week or so ago, and if this goes wrong, I will be staying well away for a while. This whole thing is just so HARD!

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 24/02/2013 18:33

bugs that's totally understandable and actually I think a healthy thing to do in your circumstances. It's a self-preservation thing.

rasp that sounds rough. Your Mum (well all of you) will go through all the stages of grieving and given that it wasn't expected, kick starting with anger isn't surprising. At least he was settled in bed and peaceful though. I hope that gives you some comfort.

Northey · 24/02/2013 18:38

bugs, I know how you feel about the "what I should be doing now" thing. Christmas was just awful for that. Everything I did, there was a sort f shadow reality running through my mind of what I ought to be doing, and where my baybee would be in the house at that particular moment and sometimes it was just wretched.

You've just got to remove the sources of stress as far as you can.

navis176 · 24/02/2013 18:39

Rasp that's very sad news Sad take care of yourself

Bugs - I have similar sticking issues so thoroughly sympathize with the bouts of bitterness Brew

I'm actually having a good day for once so sorry to hear that some of you are having crap days

Northey · 24/02/2013 18:40

Actually, navis, did you ever do an intro? Sorry if you did and I missed it Blush

hey - I gave some brief info but here's a little more detail - from 2008-2010 I had 3 mmc and a bunch of investigations. I can't remember what the investigation were exactly - blood tests and scan I think - it turns out that I have a balanced translocation on my chromosomes - which may or may not be the cause of the mmcs - other people have the same translocation without problems ttc, but it does raise the chances of mc a bit, so I may just have been unlucky and created multiple duff embryos. The only way they can prove a link is to analyse the 'remains' (as they so delightfully call them) but so far after all my erpcs they have failed to actually do that (grr). Anyhoo, then I had a break from it all for one reason and another, but started ttc again in May last year - so far this time around I have racked up 1 mmc, a referral to a nice geneticist to discuss IVF with pre-genetic diagnosis and am currently waiting for an appointment scheduled in April to check that there are no secondary causes of my multiple mmc (all 6 wks ish, though not necessarily discovered until later) - if there don't seem to be any other issues apart from my chromosomes then we'll head down the IVF route...

Northey · 24/02/2013 19:11

Ooh blimey! What a crappy time you've had :(

navis176 · 24/02/2013 19:17

it basically means that I have all the right bits of chromosome but that they're not all in the right place - so when the chromosomes all divide up and merge with MOFs there is a higher chance that the embryo will be missing some vital bits of chromosome - sorry, not very good at explaining it, but hope that's kind of understandable!!

lovesLemonDrizzleCake · 24/02/2013 19:31

Blimey, that is SHIT mavis. Fingers crossed the IVF plus genetic diagnosis will do the trick. But that is 7 MMC :( poor, poor you.

lovesLemonDrizzleCake · 24/02/2013 19:32

4 or 7, shit it is. I still have a temperature, so can't do the maths.

Mave, Bugs and Raspy ThanksThanksThanks
Un-MNetty hugs

Just watched some Call the Midwife - not sure it was a great idea. I'm hormonal today as AF is due tomorrow BUT this cycle hopefully we'll be back on track with TTC after my lump has turned out to be benign.

Northey · 24/02/2013 20:43

mave, what a miserable time you've had :(

TWinklyLittleStar · 24/02/2013 20:49

Hi hags, just popping in.

raspy sorry to hear about your granda ((hugs))

mavis bloody hell, you've not had it easy have you?

euro HWCA loves a good trump. He would be most impressed.

frank did you get any clothes? Thanks for the hugs yesterday, though you did make me cry in public. I am going to stick with Work and Communication for now. I couldn't imagine life without.

faify 'lo lovely!

norf next time just give in to POAFing straight away. Don't risk cystitis :) Fingers crossed for later in the week.

rie, good luck with buzzwam boosting!

Hi to everyone else. I need dinner now. This has been a loooong working weekend.

EuroShaggleton · 24/02/2013 21:03

mavis blimey that is a rocky road you have been on (and not the good marshmallowy kind).

Twink I usually try to be pretty ladylike too. Holding this in painful!

Jeff good luck for your scan tomorrow! I'm very jealous you will get to see your bean in less than a day.

Northey · 25/02/2013 06:14

Good luck today jethro.

Awful night's sleep here. And I bet work is going to be dire as it's my first day back after leave.

TWinklyLittleStar · 25/02/2013 07:05

Good luck jeffers

norf today is my last day before leave, and there is no way all my work will be in an acceptable state. I'm already dreading coming back!

maamalady · 25/02/2013 07:39

Holy crap, navis, that is truly shit :(

Good luck jeffers!

I have woken up diseased today - my temperature is through the roof and my throat feels like I've been swallowing broken glass :(

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 25/02/2013 07:57

Morning all, currently sat in clinic waiting room, waiting (dur) for my scan.

Good luck today Jeffers.

Sorry about The Plague evil

Hope work isn't too bad today Norf

Rie have you calmed down after last nights GWTW debacle? Wink

lovesLemonDrizzleCake · 25/02/2013 08:42

Morning hags!

Good luck with the scan frank. And Massive Good Luck with yours jeff. There will be a little heart in there, I am sure!

Sorry you've joined me in the sick tent draf. I can confirm that after three days of fever my temp finally dropped (in fact below coverline from when I used to temp) and I feel even worse. But apparently this will pass and I shall be better, hopefully soon. Sudafed, paracetamol, hot lemon and honey, duvets and endless cups of tea are handed out in my corner and I know sudafed is bad for embryos, but frankly, the chances of fertilising my hard boiled ones are very low

Good luck at work norf. I logged on to cancel today's appointments (and the ones I needed to travel for tomorrow).

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 25/02/2013 08:48

Good luck with the scan Frank! Hope it goes swimmingly and you can gear up for this cycle.

Good luck to jeff, rooting for a sticky bean and heartbeat!

Hope work goes ok today Norf.
