I couldn't bring myself to call her a bitch, we still need her help! Come on ladies, let's do this thing....

OP posts:
alyant79 · 05/03/2013 12:52

I got a false negative with my DD so they do happen. Tested day AF was due, got a bfn. Had some (light) bleeding over next few days, assumed that was AF and that I wasn't pg. Only did another test 3 weeks later as a joke, and nearly fell off the toilet when I got a bfp. Thought I was only about 5 weeks, and was mightily surprised at scan to see a 7.5 week old embryo.
I didn't do any ov testing, but it must have happened late in cycle, and that's how i got a false negative.
Felt very guilty about amount of alcohol (not to mention ski trip with lots of falling over) consumed over those 3 weeks!

DIYandEatCake · 05/03/2013 12:57

saggy Sad. Look after yourself, it's early days. Onwards and upwards.

DIYandEatCake · 05/03/2013 13:05

I did succumb to the ov tests this month so am pretty sure of my dates. I'm scared that if it's negative (which let's face it it probably is) I'll fall into a pit of gloom again - quite enjoying thinking there is at least a possibility of pg... But I am feeling crazy and need to get this over with..

bakingtins if you're still reading, thinking of you x

fod27 · 05/03/2013 13:11

Can you catch something from this site? Hahaa I have a banging headache and nipped the shops ....hate being fake and polite when I just want to say "shut the hell up! My head hurts and I don't want to talk to you about your petty insignificant life!" too harsh?

ChocolateCremeEggBag · 05/03/2013 13:32

Baking - so so sorry for you, hope that you are getting lots of TLC, will miss you Sad

Camo - happy birthday - as the song kind of goes "it's your birthday and you can cry if you want to" Totally normal (sadly) to be getting some up and down days.

POASers - I am DPO8 today - but not looking good as have had tiny red fleck and pinky CM today when wiping. Which I hoped was implantation last month but AF got me, so not looking good this time either as have no symptoms as far as I can tell. Will probably be joining you on Friday and wasting a hpt I bet

My cold is now onto the sticky Green snot stage (nice) - ears keep popping, but at least tonsils back to normal size. I grumble on ........

Mummytothearkbuilder · 05/03/2013 13:58

Hello ladies - its all getting very exciting for your POAS dates!! I am stealing some of your excitment as I am soooo far away from testing but I still like to get excited about it (even if it is other people POAS - does that make me strange!!). I am still testing my ovulation everyday but always getting negative results (still DTD every other day though). I have absolutley no idea when I will ovulate as my cycles are so long and irregular - how would I count what cycle day I am on - would it start the day of my miscarraige or the day i stopped bleeding or should I not bother until my first AF????

Sorry for all the questions - you ladies are literally like a fountain of knowledge to me when it comes to TTC!!

Camomile - sorry you are having a sad day - after my miscarriage a couple of weeks ago i tried so hard to 'get back to normal' and fight the sadness and in the end it engulfed me and I had to go with it - its all part of the grieving process, take all the time you need and be kind to yourself xx

On the false negative front - this happended to me when TTC our son - I had some strange symptoms and went to the doctor and had a negative test - 3 weeks later im at the hospital being told im 9 weeks - shocked isnt the word!!

Have a great afternoon ladies xx

SaggyOldClothCatpuss · 05/03/2013 14:15

Right. The drugs are kicking in now...
Talk to me about TTC properly.
Im taking folic acid, vitamin D and baby dose aspirin. Is there anything else I need to be taking? Ive got the GP tomorrow to get my neck looked at, is there anything MC related I should be asking them to check? Progesterone levels maybe?
And what about these ovulation sticks? Ive seen them on ebay, but Im slightly concerned that if I order them, DP will see and it will blow his tiny mind. We are 'seeing what happens', he didnt want any more DCs until I got pg at christmas and he had a re think, and I dont want to scare him! Are they vitally important or just another way of feeding my POAS obsession?

SpanishLady · 05/03/2013 14:44

I think OPks/Ovulation sticks are very subjective - some like me swear by them yet others find them instrusive, unhelpful or downright dont work.

The idea of them is to help you lock into the time of your cycle where you are most fertile so that you can be strategic about when you DTD.

I think doctors/fertility experts generally dont seem to like them as I think they feel it makes some women feel more stressed - eg a positive OPK but they cant have sex = stress and frustration.

My DH knew I used them and was impartial about them - woudl you use them without your DH knowing?

SpanishLady · 05/03/2013 14:46

A friend had a baby last night - hes lovely! He is the result of the first pregnancy after her MC (got pg about 5-6 months later).

I feel very pleased for her & hopeful for a happy outcome for myself - though it has also brought home to me of what I might not have - all mixed up together!

SaggyOldClothCatpuss · 05/03/2013 14:53

Hmmm, not sure. possibly. suppose Id like to know that I was actually ovulating around the right time, rather than to time things, we tend to DTD a lot around the right time anyway. I try and keep a rough track of things, and sometimes wonder if I have actually ovulated.
He is definitely ok with trying, I just dont want to look like Im forcing the issue I suppose.

shellshock7 · 05/03/2013 15:06

saggy I don't use ovulation sticks but know when I'm ovulating by when the EWCM arrives? Have a look at the book taking charge of your fertility...you can also use temperature and position of cervix to help?

alyant79 · 05/03/2013 15:07

I've never used the ov sticks because I think if I did then I might feel "forced" to dtd at a particular time, rather than because I want to.
Also, if I don't use them and don't get pg, then I can say to myself "oh well, we probably just missed the window" rather than know that we dtd at the right time but it didn't work.
That's my rationale anyway, and it saves me money :)

Seems to me you have to do what's right for you. Sperm can actually survive for quite a while, and even go dormant waiting for an egg, so as long as you think you're DTDing around the right time and that's what you're comfortable with, then I reckon that's good enough.

SaggyOldClothCatpuss · 05/03/2013 15:21

I know about the EWCM, but I dont always see it, which is what makes me wonder.
What about things I should be asking at the GP. Any ideas?

Thunderbuns · 05/03/2013 15:22

This is a very timely topic as I am doing exactly what I shouldn't- getting a positive opk and then starting to totally FREAK OUT getting worried because I can't dtd tonight as oh back tomorrow.

I started using them just to see if I was actually getting back to normal after mc, and while I do feel pleased to have more information, actually the pressure is not bad.

So firstly, please someone else tell me I'm ok after dtd sun night and tomorrow night;

Secondly, please someone slap me for freaking out

And thirdly, I would say yes they're useful for getting to know yourself and your body a bit but as oh and I aren't great under pressure I wonder whether I'll not bother using them next time.

As for other ttc stuff, I just take folic acid and try to be generally happy and healthy.

Mummytothearkbuilder · 05/03/2013 15:22

I'm using them to hopefully prove that I am actually ovulating - my cycles are so long the doctors were wondering whether I was ovulating or not (I guess i was as I fell pregnant).

For me it's about control - I am a control freak (but a nice one) and POAS helps me feel like I am in control of my ttc in the same way as taking my folic acid and losing weight (well trying to anyway!). I am intrigued by the baby aspirin - the dr mentioned to me about taking it when I find out I'm pregnant - I didn't realise I could take it while trying.

I have been reading about conceive plus or pre-seed - has anyone used these??

X

fod27 · 05/03/2013 15:41

I swear by them
Thunder....slap hahaa

Ive heard that the time spam on sperm life is actually massively overrated, I recommend some googling girls..I may be wrong but in pretty sure. I like to know that I've got the window so I can plan however you should also be bonking regularly to ensure a fresh sperm supply as saving it up makes them sluggish etc also doggy style and missionary (man on top) are the best positions as it shortens the distance they have to travel, oooo also lying in your back with a pillow under your bottom for twenty minutes is also recommended oooo sorry also cough medicine on the day of ov makes the mucus runnier and gives the little swimmers a helping hand

If I remember anymore il add to it

Sorry for info overload ;)

fod27 · 05/03/2013 15:43

Pillow exercises recommended after ejaculation obv!

Sorry I have more...also if we reach climax too that helps to 'suck' the swimmers in and his arousel helps them travel the distance too...so I'm afraid no more 3 minute bonks! Hahaaa

JanieLovesCake · 05/03/2013 15:44

hey girls, been awol for a little while again, a lot going on in here...good and bad it seems. tins if you're still reading, i hope you're getting good support in RL.

mummyark i used cheapo okps as my cycles were so terribly long and i had no idea when i was ovulating. and they worked for me - i used them each morning - i OV on cd35 this month so gladly the cheapies didn't break the bank.

camo hope you're birthday is being ok, it's horrid to pretend you're happy. i say postpone it and have a good night out / meal out when you feel more like it.

choc i'm using my posifrickingtivity vibes and hoping it could be implantation this time round? and get well soon, hope you have olbas oil and a cosy bed

diy you have mega willpower!!! how have you managed to stay away from poas! i'm 6dpo and already thinking about it!

saggy hope you're nasty aches and pains bugger off soon and you can start to begin again. the 1st AF knocked me for six too.

aly i'm in the crazy boat too!!

hi to everyone else, i think a big group hug is called for.

i'm due to poas on 14th march and i'm lying to you all if i say i'll not poas before then but i'll try my boobs have obviously doubled in size and i'm already feeling a bit nauseous but that may be due to the few glasses of wine that totally busted me on saturday night. i decided it would be my last drink for 9 months at least so i enjoyed myself (only cos someone else said they were drinking during 2ww!!!). wasn't a well girl on sunday morning and been feeling sick and tired since! kidding myself that it's early morning sickness haaaahaaaaa!!!

JanieLovesCake · 05/03/2013 15:47

oh and thunder don't fret! you could still be totally on it Wink no way are you out of the game. just jump his bones as soon as you see him tomorrow :)

Thunderbuns · 05/03/2013 17:19

Thank you janie and fod, I'll stop being so needy now!

Does anyone know if there's any value in continuing with opks after first positive? E.g ov doesn't happen til after it goes negative?

fod27 · 05/03/2013 17:48

Depending on the length of your cycle it's usually around the 13th to 14th day (using the last day of your af as day 1) I wasn't sure so I wrote down the date I started and finished in a diary and started testing from the 11th day after I'd finished AF just to be sure I started quite early really but I wrote those days I ovulated down too....that way it also helps you to date your pregnancy

fod27 · 05/03/2013 17:50

You usually ov half way through your cycle but everyone's different and ov usually lasts 24 -48 hrs

DIYandEatCake · 05/03/2013 18:18

Well I have no willpower - just poas and completely negative, no sign of a line. I feel kind of relieved now, if af comes it won't be a surprise and if not then that's good obviously. Strangely my symptoms have now disappeared too Grin. Amazing how I'd convinced myself. Now off to wait for af and then -get very drunk have a glass or two.

Mummytothearkbuilder · 05/03/2013 18:20

Excellent tips ladies - fod your knowledge is ace!!

I'm not sure what cycled day I am on - miscarriage was 15th feb and stopped bleeding on 22nd feb - what date would you ladies use as day 1?? I am going to keep going and hope a positive opk result isn't too far off!! Xx

SaggyOldClothCatpuss · 05/03/2013 18:22

Fod, shouldnt that be using the first day of AF as your start? That is technically day 1 of your cycle.
