Anyone else want to join me in getting ready for ivf in 2013? Good egg buddies wanted!!!

Hello,

Dh and I have been trying for over 2 years and had one failed ivf (Icsi) attempt at the Argc last spring. We are going to go again in the new year.

I wondered if anyone else was planning to do the same? And whether anyone fancied joining me in 'princessing' (stolen from style & beauty :) ) for ivf?

I'm not sure what this means in terms of what I'll do, really hoping for some help in researching how to get the best eggs ever, and perhaps how to improve dh's little swimmers....

Anyone up for being a good egg buddy?

Maybe get a test in and test tomorrow morning caip? You get a more accurate result with FMU. Good luck whenever you decide to test.

CaipirinhasAllRound · 11/02/2013 15:30

I think that's what I'll do although I'm driving to Birmingham for a meeting in the morning so might try and hold out til Wed

Northey · 11/02/2013 16:04

Just had call from clinic, who want to do egg collection at 8am on Thursday. I am now fretting about the following things:

Will the average-sized cluster of eggs have grown enough by then? Or are they going for the two massive ones?? Why didn't I ask this, FFS? I am normally very fussy about being involved in and understanding my treatment.

I will have to leave home at 5.30am to get there in time.

My partner will never be able to spoff at that time of day - he takes hours over morning sex at the best of times, and if he has only had five minutes sleep it will be even worse.

What if it doesn't work?

Northey · 11/02/2013 16:08

I might very possibly crack and do it tomorrow, caip. Although I suppose I might also wuss out through fear... That's possibly not a very helpful contribution.

delilahbelle · 11/02/2013 16:12

Deep breaths Northey and good luck for Thursday. You could maybe call them back to clarify what follicles they are aiming to collect the eggs from?

I don't envy you the early start, but it's all in a good cause. And I'm sure it will work, these clinics have done procedures like this over and over again.

Are you triggering tonight then? Good luck with it.

Anyway, I am having loads more AF-y cramps, but no more spotting touch wood. But at the same time I don't have any other reassuring symptoms. Thank goodness it's half term - I can spend my time on the sofa or in bed relaxing and reading / watching TV / napping.

The wait until my beta results on Thursday is going to drag.

EuroShagmore · 11/02/2013 16:14

What sizes were the follies today? They usually grow 1-2mm per day so this should give you some idea of what they are aiming for. Call them back to ask if you want confirmation.

That is daftly early to leave. Could you ask them if you could have a later time slot? My clinic seemed to just book people in on EC on a first come, first served basis. I had one of the later slots, at 10.30.

Why not call back and see if these can be sorted, now you have had a time to think about it?

The spaff thing is probably not easily solvable, tbh. I've always heard of clinics doing EC in the mornings. He will have as long as he needs, though. As he has a few days' notice, could he use the time to start preparing a collection of some "materials" on a phone or ipad? (Mr Euro was complaining about the poor quality of materials at our clinic and I was surprised he hadn't taken his own. He said it hadn't occurred to him, which is why I mention it.)

CaipirinhasAllRound · 11/02/2013 16:16

Call them northey if you have questions, you won't be the first, but remember they know what they're doing so try to relax x

Northey · 11/02/2013 16:59

Darling clean-minded mr euro!

Clinic is going to call me back to talk about timing. I've realised that there is only one train that will get us there in time (curse my lack of car), so if that is cancelled we will miss our slot altogether. If we absolutely have to do it then, I think we will get a cab, but that would be hideously expensive so I'd rather avoid it, if it's possible just to go later.

Northey · 11/02/2013 17:04

Nope, no joy. Right. An early morning 45 min cab journey, or a night in the premier inn over the road from the clinic?

delilahbelle · 11/02/2013 17:12

Premier Inn - you don't want to risk this appointment, and will possibly (?!) be able to get a bit more sleep.

Northey · 11/02/2013 17:14

Fuck. They are fully booked. As is every other hotel in Oxford it seems!

Dildals · 11/02/2013 17:33

If Mr Northey can't deliver that early morning they can do a small procedure where they basically get it out of his ballsack with a little needle. Not sure whether that will put his mind at rest though!
I now have a vision of one of those American Pie type movies where Stiffler gets his prostate 'milked' by a nurse ... never mind ... they definitely didn't provide that services at my clinic!
(Mr Dildals also complained about the materials but was mainly unhappy about the fact he wasn't allowed to use lube and ended up a bit raw. He didn't get too much sympathy from me.)

delilahbelle · 11/02/2013 17:35

Oh dear Northey not good. Whereabouts do you have to come from? Looks like a cab it is.

Northey · 11/02/2013 18:28

40miles away. It probably will be cheaper to get a cab, but as its my parents' house (long story), I'm not sure that I wouldn't rather spend the extra and just have a night on our own somewhere stress free beforehand.

delilahbelle · 11/02/2013 18:32

How about staying in a b and b or hotel outside the city? Lastminute.com might have a few?

fairypangolin · 11/02/2013 18:33

northey if your EC isn't til Thurs then your follicles have loads of time to keep growing. They can keep growing past the HCG trigger so the cluster should have caught up by then. And on timing - 8:30 am isn't ideal but your DP will have to wait around while you have the EC, which should be at least 2 hrs including your recovery so even if he is nervous at first he will have some time to relax. I imagine the clinic has dealt with this sort of scenario before and will understand.

CaipirinhasAllRound · 11/02/2013 18:53

I stupidly stupidly in a moment of weakness just did a test and it was negative

So now I don't know if it's because it's the end of the day or because it really is negative

Damn damn damn I wish I hadn't done that. DH has an air of 'I told you so' about him too!

Northey · 11/02/2013 19:15

caip, you idiot! If you are going to crack, it really does need to be first thing in the morning. Don't worry, lovely. I know the arctic stick will have been a bit of a heart blow, but at this time of day it is pretty meaningless. Try again tomorrow. Or Wednesday like you were meant to in the first place, hmm?

delilahbelle · 11/02/2013 19:18

caip ((hug)) because a blank pee stick is horrid, but don't give up! You need to use FMU, and even then the line will be v faint this early.

Have a cuppa and some chocolate, make your DH give you a hug, and test again on Wednesday.

Isabeller · 11/02/2013 19:48

Have you looked on airnbnb Northy?

Hugs to caipi too, I am getting a bit wound up imagining a faint pink streak not imagining abdominal twinges. Yesterday I was convinced it had worked, today the opposite.

Anyway main thing is home at last and able to rest in my own bed. Unfortunately had to move some furniture this morning but tried very hard to let DP take most of the weight (carer's bed broken beyond repair, thankfully got a replacement from freecycle).

sleepy waves to everyone Smile Is x

CaipirinhasAllRound · 11/02/2013 19:52

Thanks. I'm not paying too much attention to the result just annoyed at myself and now also realising how pissed off I would be if it really is a negative on Wednesday!

On a positive note, I've had cheesy mash for tea!

HontyTont · 11/02/2013 21:03

Scan today went well....have had some good growth but want me to go in again tomorrow for scan and blood test before they give me the ok to trigger on Wednesday
Sending growing thoughts to my lining and follicles!

Hope you have all had a happy Monday

Northey · 11/02/2013 21:06

How big are your follicles now, hont? And how many have you got?

HontyTont · 11/02/2013 21:21

Sending growing thoughts to your cluster too north....like fairy said you have lots of time for the cluster to catch up

caip wait till Wednesday!! Ignore today, give yourself a break

euro congrats fabulous news!!

keep good luck with the IUI, my lining was always thin and they never gave me anything so it's good you have some HRT to stimulate the lining

Xx

HontyTont · 11/02/2013 21:23

I've got 9....3 are around the 14-16mm mark
3 are around 11-14mm
And the rest are sitting around 10 or below

My lining is only 3.7 I think gone up from 3.3 on sat

What about you?
