I am - well I'm planning to start downregging in May if at all possible. I suspect ET will be somewhere round about the end of June.
Are you on long protocol or short? Long for me.
Which clinic are you with?

suss · 27/03/2006 21:11

I am at the Chelsea & Westminster hospital. I do short protocol with cetrotide and puregon so no downregging for me. I used to do long protocol and hated it, I have the same sort of response to both, but had my DB on short protocol - so we are doing the same again! So it will be May for me. Where are you going for treatment?

I'm at the Oxford Fert Unit - at present am checking hormone levels so if all ok will get going to downreg on day 21 of next month. (Boring!)
Think you will be on your way before me! Good luck...

suss · 28/03/2006 20:52

Good Luck though Pruni, downregging is so boring and I used to feel very flat so I send you all the best. I think I will start hormone injections around the end of the 1st week in May. Have you had many attempts and were any successful? Is your clinic nice (bad word, but I can't think of anything better).

OP posts:
Piffle · 28/03/2006 20:54

Good luck with it Suss xx

Pruni · 28/03/2006 20:56

Clinic's ok (can't get too excited about it). Have done 2 FETs (unsuccessful) and have one dc from an IVF/ICSI procedure.
Getting quite quietly desperate to have another...
I don't usually mind downregging tbh, though it stops me from sleeping well. The injections are a different matter - yeuch!

suss · 28/03/2006 20:59

I don't mind the injections my husband hates them and won't be in the room with me when I do them. I do know what you mean about being desperate for another. I thought having DB would mean i wouldn't feel like that again but its dreadful not being able to conceive when you want to. Thanks piffle for the luck send some to Pruneau too!

sorry I meant Pruni or are you the same person - just a little confused.

Pruni · 28/03/2006 21:06

We're one and the same!
Pruneau is my French name.
Sorry for confusion...xx

suss · 29/03/2006 14:15

makes prefect sense now! Could you have treatment in France?

OP posts:
katierocket · 29/03/2006 14:21

hello
I am! Well probably around mid April actually. It's my first time (been TTC no2 for 2 years - DS is now 4.5yrs) and I'm pretty nervous about it all.

Pruni · 29/03/2006 14:21

No, no, we were all doing French names the other day.
Twas a silly thing.
What do you inject with if you don't downreg?

Pruni · 29/03/2006 14:22

Ooh, hi KR.
Can I answer any questions for you? (Mind you, am not an expert...)
I think it all seems quite daunting the first time - exciting too.

katierocket · 29/03/2006 14:24

hi Pruni - Smile

well you know I am trying not to get too obsessed with it all IFYKWIM, and strike fine balance between knowing enough and not knowing too much! I don't really expect it to work but obviously hoping it does.
I'm worried about the side effects of the drugs - I took Clomid for 3 months and that was grim.

Pruni · 29/03/2006 14:28

Yes I try to strike exactly the same balance. Smile
I think the drugs affect every woman a bit differently. Weepiness is definitely a common side-effect, and I tell you, that first downreg was an eye-opener: the menopause in three weeks. I found nothing odd for the first two weeks (was worrying that nothing was happening) and then Wham: hot flushes, total inability to retain information, remember where I'd put stuff, keep up a conversation. It was quite an insight into the minds of fifty-something women.
They will tell you to drink loads of water to avoid headaches: really works. Esp important after egg collection.

katierocket · 29/03/2006 14:31

Well I'm actually doing the short protocol so no down reg. I'm going to sound incredibly dim and ill informed when I say that i'm not really sure why I'm on short protocol accept to say that the consultant said that they generally do use the short protocol with most women (CARE in manchester). I am going to follow it up with him and double check exactly why.

thanks for the tip re: drinking water.

Have you read Inconceivable by Ben Elton BTW?

katierocket · 29/03/2006 14:32

tut tut
"except to say..." not "accept"

Pruni · 29/03/2006 14:35

No I have never understood the short/long thing - my clinic does long. I once asked them and they mumbled something I have forgotten. Things change all the time, though, so who knows? Would be interested to hear what they say.
CARE has a message board, btw - quite good. A bit intense sometimes and lots of babydust around (I come over all Cod-like at that point).

katierocket · 29/03/2006 14:37

LOL pruni - have you ever ventured onto Fertility Friends? - now that is a seriously over dusted site with far too many flashing icons.

Pruni · 29/03/2006 14:52

Yes, I posted once or twice a few years ago and then decided it wasn't for me.
I like sarcasm and insightfulness, diluted with a bit of textspeak and vitriol. Grin
Babydust, ((((((hugs)))))), avatars and tickers are just weird in an adult-who-arranges-cuddly-toys-on-her-bed sort of way.

katierocket · 29/03/2006 16:05

indeed Pruni
how many times have you done IVF?(sorry if you've already posted this)

wendy11 · 29/03/2006 19:38

suss

Just wanted to wish you all the best for your next IVF cycle. I know you have been through this so many times before and I really hope that this time you get the restult you want.

Pruni - All the best to you for your up coming cycle and I also hope that you get the result you want.

Katierocket - The first cycle can be very daunting but these girls will be able to keep you really well informed. I have posted a few times on the CARE site although I am not at CARE and found that it can be very intense at times. Not good for someone who finds the whole IVF thing incredibley stressful at the best of times. Take care and good luck and I hope you get good news very soon.

We still haven't decided wether to go for another IVF cycle or move onto adoption. Our clinic is really messing us around at the moment. They can't say when we would be able to cycle again and also they will not carry out any tests to try and find out if we have some sort of an immune issued which is causing the m/c's. I have phoned round several adoption agencies and have a social worker coming to talk to us in a couple of weeks, so maybe after that we will be able to make an informed decision.

Pruni · 29/03/2006 19:46

Wendy (thanks for the good wishes) - I am shocked at the attitude of your clinic. Have you had any better luck at any others? Which clinic is it that's messing you around?

suss · 29/03/2006 19:53

oh wendy I am so sorry to hear I hope that things work out for you. Is it possible you could do satelite IVF (spelling is bad I know) where you go to local hospital for scans etc but travel to IVF centre for treatment - it could widen your choice of clinic. I took baby asprin during treatment as for some reason it helps if you have some immune issues. I am thinking of you please keep in touch and let me know how things are going. Pruni with short or flare protocol you start on Day 3 of your cycle with Hormone injections and you wait for your follicles to get to about 14mm when you start injecting cetrotide, which stops you ovulating, so the whole cycle can be done in a natural cycle length, and you don't get the whole menopause thing. They don't use it v often as it is not so controlable and Doctors like to do egg collection when they want! Do you do long protocol when you downreg from day 1 or day 21 protocol. I only know all this because they have tried everything on me! Katie rocket if you've got any questions I'll try and help too. The first time is quite daunting - a bit like buying a house, you don't know what the hell is going on, so anyhting we can help with let us know.
