Came off the pill 6 mths ago and still no AF! Anyone else in the same boat?

Hello,

As the title suggests I came off the Yasmin pill 6 months ago thinking that I would fall pregnant straight away (partly because that is what the nurse hinted). Forward 6 months and not only am I not pregnant I also haven't had AF! I am very stressed about AF not arriving, especially as most of the ladies on MN talk about AF arriving. I had a blood test two weeks ago and results came back normal. I've also had a swab test, again results came back normal. I've got an internal scan booked in for September...cannot wait for that. Anyway if anyone else would like to share your experience it would be nice to hear from you!

Just a quick note to the OP. My AF took months to restart following a late MC (at 20 weeks) and I took B100 (vitamin available from any health food shop) which helped get my hormone levels back on track. A friend of mine had exactly the same (her MC was at 12 weeks) and her AF was AWOL for over 6 months then she started B100 and hey presto AF appeared soon afterwards. Then this year the same friend had failed IVF and again her AF was AWOL, she started back on the B100 2 weeks ago and AF arrived today ! It is a simple vitamin that you can buy yourself and start taking... no harm in trying it. Possibly a better way to kick start your hormones sooner, rather than waiting for appt and stronger drugs.
Feel free to ignore this if you think you have PCOS as I have no experience of that I'm afraid.
Good luck.

Critter has Clomid worked for you then?

Thanks for all your advice. I'm slightly calmer today and just trying to stay positive until my scan on 11th.

peardrop2 · 01/09/2012 07:42

Thanks gomurray I will think about taking that vitamin. I have noticed that my hair is thinning a bit since coming off the pill and I wonder if this is PCOS related or I'm just imagining it. My mother thinks my hair has been thinning for a year now but I just laughed it off at the time as I didn't notice it at all. It's deffinately something I will mention when I go for my scan.

Otheregos · 01/09/2012 09:22

My af did not arrive until a year after I stopped taking the pill, it took another year for them to be any where near'regular and another year to conceive! Obviously my story is quite extreme, however I shall never go on birth control ever again, as I believe it completely messed my body and hormones up! We are now trying to conceive num 2 and I'm hoping it doesnt take as long this time around,as the old biological clock is ticking

CritterPants · 01/09/2012 12:56

Pear, it hasn't yet, in that I am still ttc, but if it has made me ovulate at least once. And if clomid doesn't work after a few rounds, there are other options, so don't worry!

CritterPants · 01/09/2012 12:57

Sorry - it has made me

peardrop2 · 01/09/2012 17:16

Thanks Critter I am starting to come to terms with the time thing. I'm not a very patient person naturally so I kind of freak out when things don't go to plan. Starting to realise that this is a long term thing and just need to be patient ;)

peardrop2 · 03/09/2012 15:08

Is there any specific question that I should ask the doctor when I go for my internal scan?

Flyingdolly · 04/09/2012 20:13

I'm also having the same problem, missed 2 periods whilst still on the pill so came off earlier than planned and then still nothing for 4 months now. Did anyone else stop gettin their periods whilst still on the pill. Have booked drs app but would just love to know all is ok!

peardrop2 · 04/09/2012 20:19

Flying do you mean you missed 2 breakthrough bleeds?

Flyingdolly · 05/09/2012 04:04

Yes sorry I'm not very good with the lingo yet, missed two break through bleeds. Is that a bad thing?

peardrop2 · 05/09/2012 06:38

Flying did you finish the packets correctly? I've never heard of missing break through periods. I hope the doctor puts your mind to rest!

Flyingdolly · 05/09/2012 08:57

Yes finished the packets as per the instructions and nothing showed up so continued onto next month after the break week and same thing happened again, so didn't restart pill after that one and still nothing! Yes fingers crossed the dr has some answers. Do people with PCOS normally have a bleed whilst on the pill does anyone know?

peardrop2 · 05/09/2012 10:35

Flying are you sure you're not pregnant? Seems a silly question I know but has to be asked. If you're not sure then I would take a test if I was you...just to be on the safe side as your doctor is bound to ask you.

Flyingdolly · 05/09/2012 11:29

I thought this 2 but have taken a couple of tests and had to have an x ray for something unrelated and they did another test before they would x ray and all negative. I will do another just b4 my docs app so I can say with all certainty no. I'll let u know what doc says.

peardrop2 · 05/09/2012 11:34

Oh I thought you would have done a test, as most would! Yes, let us know how you get on with the doctor! FX they have a quick solution as to why this is happening...must be driving you nuts!

NorthWhittering · 05/09/2012 15:10

I had this and had some accupuncture for it, periods came back after 3 sessions. they took another few months to get back to regularity, but I then conceived quite quickly after they did.

peardrop2 · 05/09/2012 15:47

That is interesting North thanks for sharing. How did you know where to go for acupuncture? I'm a bit scared of needles!

EarnestDullard · 05/09/2012 19:12

With both of my pregnancies my period took months to come back (6mo first time after being on the pill for several years, 4mo second time after being on pill for about 1 year). Both times I had one period and then conceived the month after. So it doesn't always mean underlying problems; I think some women's hormones just take a while to readjust. I had blood tests the first time that didn't show up anything abnormal.

Fingers crossed for all you ladies :)

peardrop2 · 05/09/2012 19:43

Earnest thanks for giving us some hope! I've been off the pill for 5mths now so that is very much in the back of my mind that my periods might come back at 6mths. Its good to hear your positive story! My mum said yesterday that she thinks it is that!

laama · 05/09/2012 19:50

Hi All, can I join you please? New to MN! I came off the pill on 1st March & we've been TTC since, and still no AF, I have an ultrasound and internal scan on Saturday morning & am majorly anxious. Any tips for questions to ask the sonographer / doctor? I've a feeling I may have PCOS, but that's more of a hunch than any symptoms iyswim.

NorthWhittering · 05/09/2012 20:35

Peardrop I think I just googled Grin

peardrop2 · 05/09/2012 21:18

Welcome laama! I can't tell you how nice it is to finally speak to someone in my position!! I have my scan on Tuesday and I'm also very anxious about the results (not the scan as I hear it is pain free from close friends). I am starting to write a list of questions. Some apply if they find something and some apply if they don't find anything. I've already been told that I'll be referred to the fertility clinic at the hospital next so my main question will be 'How long will it take to get an appointment? and are then any other alternatives like going private etc?'

peardrop2 · 05/09/2012 21:19

North yeah I googled this afternoon and found a local health clinic that offers reflexology and acupuncture. I will call them to ask some questions.

CanYouGetDownPlease · 05/09/2012 22:50

Hi Peardrop, laama here from ^^ had a name change. I've yet to write any questions down, and I'm struggling to know where to start. I think I will jot some notes down, and suppose the q&a will be dependant on results of scans. I had initial bloods which came back normal, although I've taken these with a pinch of salt as I've read the results can be unreliable if no average cycle. How long have you been TTC? Each month with no period ad no BFP gets harder, I had underestimated how hard I'd take it all emotionally. I'll be sure to check in after my appointment to update & give you a heads up.
