Good morning ladies!

Have been off beering it up at V Festival all weekend so not been around.

So sorry to hear everyone's still feeling down. Good luck to everyone with tests booked - hopefully there will be some positive news to look forward to from them.

Welcome 10storey - great name btw, Stone Roses were fab on Saturday :)

woody17 · 20/08/2012 10:04

Hi all - off to the airport today. It's going to be weird not being on here but will be back in just over 3 weeks. Hope there are some BFPs soon.

resipsa · 20/08/2012 10:14

Woody have a fab time.
Swimming are you serious that YOU needed to tell GP that if you ovulate late(r than Day 14), the 21 day test isn't really very meaningful??? Emphasises why I avoid them unless essential!

winkle2 · 20/08/2012 10:21

have a nice holiday respisa :)

girls ? I had the blood tests last week. All they do is take your blood. Get the results this week ? will let you know how they go. I agree that the results are scarier than the actual tests!

winkle2 · 20/08/2012 10:21

I meant have a nice holiday woody!

Newbie2 · 20/08/2012 10:27

winkle are you calling up for your results? Can't decide whether to call up tomorrow or wait for scan to hear everything all at once.

resipsa · 20/08/2012 10:39

Get them today or you won't sleep!

resipsa · 20/08/2012 10:50

Out of interest (and as someone who had the blood tests but nothing more), does the scan tell you how many eggs you have left (for want of a more technical description)?

winkle2 · 20/08/2012 10:52

I'm calling today.

My hub had to wait 4 weeks for hias SA results. I called the docs once and complained that they were taking ages, next day we had the results.

It's something so important, I'm not leaving it in the hands of anyone else.

Newbie2 · 20/08/2012 10:54

Yeah you're right. Perhaps I'll call for mine tomorrow. I'm only going to spend the next 3 weeks wanting to know anyway.

Newbie2 · 20/08/2012 10:56

resipa I don't think it can tell you that as you keep producing eggs. It surely only shows how many eggs you've produced in the month

resipsa · 20/08/2012 11:12

Oh right - so it's to check that an egg was released that month and if yes then all systems are go?

resipsa · 20/08/2012 11:13

I think you can get your egg "reserve" tested but suspect that's not a test the NHS agrees to fund.

Newbie2 · 20/08/2012 11:15

resipsa I think so, don't take my word. I know they will be checking the quality of my eggs too, to see if there any cysts and what size etc

resipsa · 20/08/2012 11:30

Hmm, definitely sounds like it would give reassurance (if all is well). I might see if I can sort one out...

swimmingnotdrowning · 20/08/2012 11:35

Yes I did have to explain to the GP! Although, in fairness to him, I think he was more confused by the arithmetic rather than lacking in medical knowledge and he did a good job of putting me at east. He was trying to tell me that day 21 is the same as 7 days before your next period and it took a while to persuade him that on a 35 day cycle that simply doesn't add up....

It made me very grateful to everyone on here for all the knowledge I've acquired during my lurking active contributions on here. It was when I asked whether the tests were 21 days after the first day of menstruation or 7 days after possible ovulation that the penny dropped. Trying to explain to the reception why I had to book an appointment with the nurse on a particular day was a whole new kind of torture though! All the people I know who used to be doctor's receptionists are lovely so why are none of the ones I've ever met behind the reception desk capable of being understanding? Are all patients normally horrible to them?

resipsa · 20/08/2012 11:39

I can picture it! Grin I think there must be a new training scheme where they learn the attitude. (No offence to anyone here who works as one; sure you're lovely!).

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 20/08/2012 13:19

To be honest swimming the Maths isn't that hard. Most primary school kids would have no problem with 35 minus 7.

I felt the same about my GP, really just didn't know what he was talking about. I think in about 10 - 20 years we won't have GPs any more everyone will just go to Dr Google.

I fon't know what the problem is with the receptionists, some are lovely but there are so many that are complete cows it makes you wonder.

Ha! *resipsa" - I just got your nickname! I've been misreading it as re-is-psa and assuming that it at least had some significance to you but now I get it! Made my day (which tells you something about how much fun I am having at my desk....)

resipsa · 20/08/2012 15:45

Grin Me too!

winkle2 · 20/08/2012 15:46

What does resipsa mean?

redstrawberry · 20/08/2012 16:06

im curious? I hv been calling you repisa....ooops
what does it mean res?

Kittenkatzen · 20/08/2012 16:36

i want to know too!

frustratedpants · 20/08/2012 16:40

Me too, I'm stalking lurking to find out because I'm nosy

swimmingnotdrowning · 20/08/2012 16:46

I think that it is latin and it's two words - res ipsa which is latin for "the thing is". Most commonly used in the phrase res ipsa loquitur meaning "the thing speaks for itself". Am I right resipsa?
