Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

Any suggestions for a newbie?

Hi,

This is my first post on Mumsnet but have been lurking about a bit recently. Me and my new DH are planning on TTC before Christmas. Grin which we're excited about. I had my implant taken out yesterday and we're going to use alternative contraception for a few months while I give my body a bit of a break after 9 years of pill/jags/one horrific attempt at the coil/implant. I also had an infected cervix at the end of June after a biopsy (thankfully clear) which hopefully has no lasting side effects.

Apart from a change in diet and taking folic acid what else should I be trying to do? Yesterday the doc said something about checking my Reubella immunisation is OK? Should I be making an appt with the GP to do this? Last booster I had was 11 years ago?

We're mid 20s so we're hoping just to relax in to this and have fun whilst trying!

Any advice?

Come join our thread here we are all about relaxed (mostly!) Conception.

Folic acid is a good place to start but you already sound far more conscientious than I was before I had my 1st and he's turned out to be absolutely bonkers ok!

Welcome to MN btw...it's addictive!

Try not to obsess! Easier said than done I know!

Try to stay away from things like ovulation tests, charting temperatures, etc. starting down that road too soon will only lead to madness [voice of experience]

Just aim to have sex every other day through your cycle and you'll be fine. Don't panic if it doesn't happen instantly, it's very normal to take 6 months to a year to conceive.

Good luck!
