Have a breastfed baby or toddler? Why not try for another one?! Who needs sleep anyway?

Come join us whether you are waiting for your first period in months or are are a few months into trying.

Welcome back highheels Smile my first couple of cycles were ok but then I had a random couple of long cycles, one was about 45 days! Think its all pretty normal, they should settle down a bit as the time passes.
Rainbows, I am going to stick my head on the line and say I don't think you've ovulated. If you read back through the thread, the same happened to me a few cycles ago. I was sure I'd ov'd, even got a positive opk and when I didn't get AF past my usual LP, I thought I was def Preg but kept getting bfn's. Then I started getting sore nips, ewcm and cramping and I thought it was all early Preg symptoms. It was only after those symptoms died down a few days later that I clocked on that it was actually ovulation and I had totally missed it. No dtd or anything. It was then confirmed by AF 12 days later. I've since researched it and when bf your body can gear up to ov but not quite manage it. It usually coincides with a rise in bf on the day of the intended ov and that delays it all. I hope I'm I wrong and you are Preg and get a bfp tmrw but just in case I'd be dtd anyway. If it is delayed ov you don't want to miss it like I did. Smile

RainbowsFriend · 29/11/2012 22:28

Hmmm Jakey I was actually starting to think the same myself.... but my chart is REALLY biphasic though!

Hmph... and DP is out tonight so that rules tonight out.... we'll see! Grin

highheelsandequations · 30/11/2012 14:52

Thanks for the welcomes. I have PCOS and had really long and irregular cycles pre DD so I'm expecting the same to continue. 46 days last cycle, and some spotting 14 days before AF arrived so I'm now assuming that was ov even though I've never had spotting around ov in the past. 2nd post baby AF arrived last Sunday but I only had 2 days of proper AF and since then just brown spotting, again not normal for me, so who knows.

rainbows hope you get some answers about what's going on soon, and yes, maths teacher (on a career break just now)

So for those of you charting, I've not been temping as I thought the frequent night wakings stop them being accurate. If you're taking temps and still feeding all night, when do you take them?

RainbowsFriend · 30/11/2012 15:56

I've been taking temps just before I get up - have an alarm set for 6.30. DD normally wakes "properly" at 7am - and yes it would seem that they are not accurate! 16DPO and high temps and BFN......

highheelsandequations · 30/11/2012 19:56

My problem is that by morning DD is usually in bed with me and wakes me when she demands "milk"!

RainbowsFriend · 30/11/2012 20:29

Lol! DD also in bed with me -we bed share - she feeds so frequently that it hasn't yet got to the point where it's worth putting her in her cot at all - especially as I tend to go to bed with her and get some "me time" on the lappy - like now!

But I set an alarm so I wake up a bit before her so I can at least shower in peace.... so I take my temps then. The alarm doesn't seem to wake her Confused

RainbowsFriend · 30/11/2012 20:29

PS - I'm a science teacher, but back at work now as well :(

RainbowsFriend · 01/12/2012 08:42

Still BFN and temps even higher, plus cloudy snotty CM.... this is getting nuts!

Jakeyblueblue · 01/12/2012 12:19

Dtd!!!!!! Grin

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 01/12/2012 19:00

Yes definitely dtd if you could. I'm sure I have misses opportunities when my cycle is too short. I'm slightly irregular atm in that I have some months with only 24 days. But I have had a 29 day one recently too. Ewcm is all over the place. I haven't got any this month. But I started spotting yesterday at cd22 and I'm sure this means I will have a 24 day this cycle. Looking on my fertility friend I can see I might have missed ovulation because I'm relying on the chart to start dtd. I was quite upset with myself. DH said why not we start earlier in December. When we tried for our first, we start dtd about cd 7 until AF, every 2-3 days. I think I might have to do the same again. Instead of starting and stopping by the chart.

RainbowsFriend · 01/12/2012 21:07

Yes we did, and yes you're right. I'm so knackered that I am just going by the chart, which as you say is probably not helping - but when you're working and chasing a "toddler who never sleeps" it can be hard to find the time/energy/inclination!

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 01/12/2012 22:14

Exactly rainbows, I'm so tired all the time. That's why following the chart is so tempting.

Zoon · 01/12/2012 23:30

Hi, my chart is all over the place. we co sleep and i am a human dummy!!! never ever have three hrs straight sleep and as for the inclination, well its just not there! i am still hopeful though!
by the way do any of u know do opk have degrees of acuracy. i havent had a positive one yet but some days there are stronger
lines than others. does this mean anything???

jennimoo · 02/12/2012 06:51

Jo zoon I use opks but only managed to get a clear ish result by not drinking anything more than a few sips of drink from lunchtime til I take the test around 5pm! However there are different sensitivities and I'm going to try the more sensitive this month in the hope they're easier for me to get a result...

RainbowsFriend · 02/12/2012 08:37

Well fertility friend is now saying ovulation was on Tuesday.... when we had not DTD :( Pants.
And I agree with the chart actually....

I never got good results from OPK either - would get too many positives! I think it depends on the person....

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 02/12/2012 11:37

Rainbows but sperms can live inside for 3 days.

Jakeyblueblue · 02/12/2012 11:44

Yes rainbows, if you've dtd in the days before you may be ok Smile
Zoon, I've stopped using opk's as I had a false positive once. I also don't chart for the same reason as you. I have an abundance of ewcm and ov pains so I tend to go on that and just dtd whenever I've got ewcm. Smile

Jakeyblueblue · 02/12/2012 11:45

........ I'm not preggo yet though so perhaps you want to ignore my advice Hmm

Zoon · 02/12/2012 12:17

I think i will prob give up on opks too. My friend gave me her fertility monitor and its been telling me i am at high fertility for the past 13 days which is obviously wrong. I reckon i may just be in for a long and completely irregular cycle. must have patience! must have patience! dam, i wish i was pregnant!

Zoon · 02/12/2012 12:18

Ps equations, my husband is a maths teacher too!

Zoon · 02/12/2012 12:21

rainbow when i concieved last time i got positive opk while away on a course, was fed up as couldnt dtd but obviously the little swimmers had survived and two weeks later i got a bfp, so there is hope for you!

RainbowsFriend · 02/12/2012 15:58

(I don't think sperm can live for 13 days though....:( )

Just wondering - but when I used OPKs I used to get multiple patches of postive OPK results - does this mean I am nearing menopause as I need a couple of "run ups" as it were, before actually ovulating?

Zoon · 02/12/2012 16:14

I think that is because of the breastfeeding. prolactin inhibits progesterone which is needed for ov so while breastfeeding there is alway a power struggle between the two of them, hence the run ups....hope that makes sense.

RainbowsFriend · 02/12/2012 16:28

Yes that makes sense except the problem was when I was trying to conceive DD, so not breastfeeding! Grin

Zoon · 02/12/2012 18:58

Try having a glass of grapefruit juice daily, an old wives tale but worth a go. agnus cactus meant to help also but some people say it messed up their cycles.i saw a naturopath who advosed me against it. b complex supplement good too...
