aww that is so cute kicking :) + my nan always wore make-up but i think i was just always going too be this way. my personal oppinion on the nurture/nature is theres only so much nurturing you can do, the rest is already set at conception, some people have trates that no amount of nurturing will change - my oppinion :) im on a nurturing course at work at the mo, very interesting :)

FX for next week red :o

Wow exactly the same! I was also mistaken for a boy with my short hair. My mother took me when I was about 3 or 4 to get my ears pierced and they did the one ear. Apparently, I hopped off the chair and legged it out, with my mother on my tails yelling "ONE EAR DOESN'T COUNT!".

Ah I love it - the more time I spend inside programs and software and stuff, the more I love it. And there is more going on all the time. It's awesome.

Where are you in the world?

KickingUpQuestions · 18/05/2012 12:07

I think a lot of what happens to you for the first 6-8 years dictates who you are. I agree that genes play a role, but I think their role is lesser than current "scientists" agree. When someone says "I'm overweight because my parents are overweight" - I don't think that's genetic. That's just because you ate what your parents ate growing up and you more than likely carry on that habit in you own home.

My DH has an incredibly overweight father but he was always terrified of being overweight so he just made sure he trained. He now has a lovely body but the slightest hint of fat gets him worked up. Likewise, my parents and grandparents were all thin or stocky. So our heights are similar but if I eat lots and train, I put on weight.

They tracked a bunch of kids for the first years of their life and they tested their IQ's throughout. They found that unless the kids were stimulated, their IQ's steadily dropped as they grew up and went to school. I think genes can be challenged by hard work or by nurturing certain traits.

I was an excellent swimmer growing up but I stopped training. That's the difference between me and an Olympian. I won everything and had the talent. I just stopped as a result of moving cities and being sad about the move.

everythinghappensforareason · 18/05/2012 12:25

I don't agree with things like that too, but for instance a few examples, if ur parents are over weight either u will be because u no no different or like ur partner it will make u think i dont want to be like that and change, same for parents abusing drugs and alcohol some people grow up and do that where others think no i want a better life.

i can say from a pretty tough upbringing, and me and my brothers living in a house on r own (without parents) i was 15, brothers where 13 and 17! where all very independent hardworking and caring people, all in or working towards uni now!! my mother never worked my dad did but wasnt overly intelligent. So on your theory or nurture, where in my circumstances would nurture apply to how we have turned out since there was a severe lack of it??

hehe, hope that doesnt sound snooty. just interested on your thoughts :o

talking about all this - i never thought i'd be able to say it - but I really really really want a baby and want to be pregnant this month. And I want the same for all of you. Come on big man up there!! Even though I am not very religious... I am hoping someone UP there is listening to us.

I am somewhere close to everything up North. Don't want to give out any details as some family or friends might be on here and I wouldn't want to share these intimate details with anyone but you anonymous lovely ladies on here.

everythinghappensforareason · 18/05/2012 12:34

Agree with you red not very religious, but find myself praying to see a BFP!

I don't think ino anybody who would be on here so i don't mind sharing things :) haha xxx

KickingUpQuestions · 18/05/2012 12:34

My DH and I are the same to be honest. We both had very tough upbringings - we were both sexually abuse. My parents weren't rich and neither were his.

I think this is where IQ comes in - and here I would tend to agree with you. I think when you have a IQ and something is fed to you that allows that growth (albeit if done accidentally), somehow that IQ doesn't diminish.

My DH had his passion that he found at a young age and he continued with that. So in spite of his family not recognising his IQ or doing anything about it, he stumbled through school in a very small town, suffered the same stigma attached to most abused children where the parents aren't aware and somehow came out the other side without going to university but commanding positions in financial institutions that would typically require SOME kind of post-school study. Yet he has none.

I was the same - exactly the same up until we left school. I went to a top university but my lacking is in not knowing where my strength lies from a work perspective. I have battled to find a position at work that really challenges me. However, I have a variety of other strengths that I manage to plod along with.

It's unfortunate but the situations we are in play a role in how we will be treated. That largely will contribute to how you see society. And then I believe there is an anomaly that could have easily had my DH give up and go on to a life of crime. Exactly the same with me. I think it's just something in each of us - that's probably a genetic switch that can carry over parents or grandparents and that more than likely can lay dormant. I think that anomaly can persist in life.

I'm not sure what it is though. I just know that between my DH and I - we could have turned out VERY differently to how we did turn out.

KickingUpQuestions · 18/05/2012 12:35

We're atheist as well :D

Ooop norf makes sense to me. You don't need to give anything else

everythinghappensforareason · 18/05/2012 12:37

Yes thats my point too kicking with no guidance, boundries or stability. it amazes me how we have all turned out!
But good for all of us including u and ur DH, it feels good noing u have the strength to go through life making ure own choices despite what ur back ground is!

back too babies- i think AF is lurking. mild cramps again!!! just want it too be over now x

everythinghappensforareason · 18/05/2012 13:34

quick question, they say implatation takes place 6-12days after ov? if youve concieved. so say i implanted at 12dpo. would today, 13dpo. would it show?
im just curious, and always looking for hope. although ino AF is going to arrive, having bad cramps have taken some pain killers xx

OP posts:
KickingUpQuestions · 18/05/2012 13:53

My big thing is that implantation is only felt by 20 - 30% of women. The overwhelming consensus seems to be that you have cramps for a day and then the cramps go away. I cramped Friday, Saturday and Sunday - nothing on the Monday then small cramps on Tuesday and MASSIVE AF cramps on the Wednesday.

Theoretically, yes. It could be that you implanted late. I had a bunch of people telling me that I should wait a week because they know someone who once took a week for the hormone to show up.

Realistically speaking, 98% of women test positive on the day their AF should arrive. That stat is pretty much indicated on pregnancy tests, websites and other articles that I've found (I've read a lot).

It's not over until AF arrives though :)

KickingUpQuestions · 18/05/2012 13:56

And yes. It happens like that. Your eggie meets spermie and they laze about for a couple days. Then it takes 3 days for the journey down the tubes. Then it starts to imbed in the walls. It takes about about 2 - 3 days for that. Once its imbedded, the placenta starts to release hcg.

It takes hcg about 2 - 3 days after that to show up on blood tests and about another 3 - 4 days to show up in your urine (unless you're using sensitive tests then I think it's about the same as a blood test).

I also read a statistic that most implantations that happen at 12 days and after land up not growing properly. By most I mean 86%.

everythinghappensforareason · 18/05/2012 14:02

Ohh interesting kicking im pretty sure im out, but its always good to no the facts, i think ive said before on here how when i tested on the evening AF was due + missed when pg with DS, i used a clearblue plus(non digi) and the line was not bold, was still very light. at that time i was on a 28days cycle. just got me thinking xxx

OP posts:
redstrawberry · 18/05/2012 14:09

ladies I just wondered when we say cramps how strongly do you feel them?
I had one day of strong pain where I had to gasp and inhale and exhale deeply as the pain was stabbing sensations.

Then I had cramps which can be described as mild to medium, not painful, but you can feel them down below.

kicking according to implantation calculators - I should be implanting anytime this weekend till Tuesday. AF is due on Saturday next week. I will wait and test two days after AF is late as I am never late before.

I was just wondering about cramps and symptoms I have felt so far - I know I dont get any except big sore boobs before AF is due. So wondered if these cramps are not AF symptoms.

KickingUpQuestions · 18/05/2012 14:10

You're not out until AF arrives :)

I just hurt a lot more because I had 4 extra days of negatives. And you hold on to the idea that you're pregnant.

But the truth is that those tests are largely advertised at the highest sensitivity so they more than likely do pick up a lower sensitivity - they just don't say it on the box (especially clear blue apparently).

Keep testing though :D

KickingUpQuestions · 18/05/2012 14:15

red Have you had a baby before or is this your first time TTC?

redstrawberry · 18/05/2012 14:20

lol can't you tell from my obsessing?
Its my first time and first cycle of ttc. Been charting for a year and a half though. I was ready but DH wanted to wait.
It just feels so long when I look at my cycles dating back to early 2011 on the app.

KickingUpQuestions · 18/05/2012 14:29

Mine too :)

So I know what you're going through. Except I've been doing it for a teeny bit longer :D

How old are you? Did I ask that?

Oh and can someone copy and paste my logical answers down there for when I need them next month? Please? Thanks

CountryKitty · 18/05/2012 14:36

Hi guys just read through your posts - you lot have been busy!

My 3 sisters and I were all massively girlie growing up and are now: Dentist, chartered accountant, doctor & solicitor. So I wouldn't say these are overly girlie professions. I have 2DD's (7&4) and one is the queen of pink princesses and the other a total tomboy. Both brought up exactly the same. I think it's important to let kids do what they want to do. Me, and 1 of my sisters, really find it hard now to have careers (albeit part-time) and kids and sometimes wish we had chosen something more family friendly. Sounds snobby/ patronising but don't mean it that way. OTOH I look at some SAHM and know I could never do all the messy craft stuff, loads of patience etc that their day involves. I guess what i'm trying to say is each to their own. As long as we try our best and are happy with our choices then that's ok.

everything Sorry BFN this morning but it wasn't fmu so don't count yourself out yet. wait a day or so and test again.

Well back from work & shops and got 4 (yes 4!!) superdrug tests. Only problem is that I only managed a teeny tiny wee and it wasn't enough for the test at all so used another internet cheapie and got a definite, no squinting, BFP. However, as you ladies are aware these tests are crap so will hold off opening the champers (would only have a wee bit) for now. Having to drink loads of juice to try and make myself wee again!

Discussed my late AF with DH this morning and he doesn't want me to test for another 2 weeks (as if). He is so busy at work at the mo, and worries about risk of mc again, so if I get a BFP on a proper test then won't tell him for a bit. Sounds odd I know!

KickingUpQuestions · 18/05/2012 14:55

Ooooh looking VERY exciting!!!

Yeh I would imagine that 3 girls can be girlie! :) What were your folks like?

I have still not been proven wrong :D

And remember that you guys would be the exception, rather than the rule. Considering the number of entire families that grow up to be an CA, a solicitor, a doctor and a dentist - that's definitely not common. But your family must have done something very right :)

Ah shame - my DH would have me testing ALL THE TIME. I liked your (as if)

:D

It's looking like we have at least a couple winners for this month!

KickingUpQuestions · 18/05/2012 14:55

Pardon 4 girls! :D

redstrawberry · 18/05/2012 15:21

ooooo Country sounds very positive indeed Wink
Hopefully one BFP will start off all of us.

Kicking turned 30 this year and DH is 32.
Going to disappear now but will be back on Sunday - got a couple of social events this evening and tomorrow.
But going to avoid the Wine although normally on days like today I would be polishing off quite a few glasses of red.

everythinghappensforareason · 18/05/2012 15:49

Congratulations country :o

Im sooo tempted to take my digi this evening. I took both the numark tests.
Ino i shouldnt have but ive just looked again, took 1 at 9.30am and 1 around 12ish, both dried positive, colour lines! doesn't count though? :(

what do we think? should i hold of until tomorrow evening? AF should arrive today or tmoz. had AF cramps all day, even took parecetamol. No AF yet!!!

OP posts:
KickingUpQuestions · 18/05/2012 15:55

There were lines? Coloured lines? After how much time?

I've never seen a coloured on any of my BFN's no matter how much time passes.

I would take it in the morning - if you've taken two today, there won't be any difference. Either tomorrow morning or evening

everythinghappensforareason · 18/05/2012 15:55

Omg im bursting for the loo, im thinking of holding my pee another hour then doing it? get it over with. i just went to wipe, don't no how i didn't pee haha! had stretchy CM :/ like fertile cm ha, my bodys crazyy!!!
