AF due around 9th Feb - been feeling sick for a week. No signs (tender breasts, bloatness...) that AF is coming, tested today as it's around 2-3 or so days before AF is due - and test was negative. The way I'm feeling in myself - already gone off coffee, feel sick, some foods just not nice anymore etc. - I was convinced I was pg - could the test be positive in a few days or does it mean if I didn't test positive now, I won't in a few days either.
The test was a Boots one btw. (£6.99 for pack of 2)

I reckon the test could possibly be positive in a few days time. I don't think there's always enough HCG hormone to be picked up by a test before the date of the missed period.

MrsWood · 06/02/2006 20:17

Thanks. It's only because it says everywhere the test may work up to 4 days before AF. Just looked at the instructions on Boots tests - says to use form AF due date, so I'll try then. Fingers crossed.

mrswood, I have only got bfp from date of af onwards...although some say they detect earlier as you have found you get them home and they all tend to say test on due date onwards (or so I have found) I would advise to test on or after af date.. good luck!

suspiciousOne · 07/02/2006 15:46

Well it?s easy to imagine symptoms sometimes especially if you want to be pregnant very badly. I see you posted on the 24th of January saying that you had been trying this month and apparently had already had a faint positive and a negative even though your AF wasn?t due until the 9th of Feb, even asking how to announce to dh. I know some pg tests are accurate a couple of days before AF is due but don?t know of any that are accurate up to 16 days before AF is due. What I would suggest is that you relax and wait for AF to arrive, try and put your symptoms down to wishful thinking, then you won?t be too disappointed if AF does turn up. There are a lot of women on these boards who have been trying for a baby, sometimes their first baby, for a very long time, and who, if they read here that someone has had a positive test more than 2 weeks before their AF is due will test that early because they are so desperate to know if they have been lucky that month, and who will be devastated if the test comes back negative, which it will, because no pregnancy test is that accurate.

If I am wrong about this I apologise, but to me this just looks like an overactive imagination and attention seaking.

pepperpots · 07/02/2006 16:07

whoa suspiciousOne! I understand when you say mrswoods maybe a little ahead of herself but as for atention seeking??? its called a little hope and i'm speaking from experience

Mrs Wood, before I got into the ttc'g lark I was not in the know about testing not even when you ov'd ... I went on honeymoon on the sunday and on the monday I thought I was pg so did my dh I just felt different in everyway and I did take a test on that day and obviously got a bfn. however when I got back home I took another and got a bfn! and finally on my due date I got my first bfp, sadly the pg didn't make it but as you can probably tell now I am pg again. What I am saying I too took my test way too early and I am sure we aren't the only ones.

I can understand when you first start trying you don't know all the ins and outs cos I was just that, its only since my mc that I have begun to learn the ins and outs of the cycle process etc and I am still learning.

hope you get your bfp

trace2 · 07/02/2006 16:39

when we ttc it so easy to think your pg, when trying so hard, ive done it many times, but yes these threads are here when we need advice and surport, not attention seeking, it helps to ask as so many have been through this like this, good luck mrs wood, there is always someone who can help

MrsWood · 07/02/2006 18:16

Thanks girls, I hope in 2-3 days I will test positive - will keep you all updated. If not, well, it's not the end of the world, will keep trying until it happens

OK, tested today with anticipation and got a faint positive. Reading the instructions, it says any + sign, no matter how faint, is a positive.
HOWEVER, this afternoon, got a few bloody discharges - started dark brown, then towards the evening got lighter - nothing massive, just like the very end of period. Because my period was due around today I'm putting it down to something that happens to a few people... but everywhere I read on the net, it says this can only be the case if the pregnancy is ectopic, and it can occur anytime between 4-10 weeks. I'm no longer confused, I'm in panic! Haven't got any pains but a little niggle on my right side - nothing major...
Going to GPs tomorrow to see what's going on - can anyone enlighten me with similar stories?

OP posts:
gemmaseascout · 09/02/2006 19:10

OH Mrs wood I am sorry. I have been reading the thread for a while! My friend had an eptopic and believe me the pains were very bad! If you are really worried go to A&E, or else wait for to see the doctors.
Good Luck
Hope its nothing to worry about!

MrsWood · 09/02/2006 19:26

Just phones NHS Direct - they'll be getting back to me within (watch this) 3 HRS!!! I bet they'll just say "go to GPs or A&E"... waste of time.

don't panic, bleeding could be implantation or threatened m/c rather than anything as scary as an ectopic. best of luck.

I had an implatation bleed on day of AF and went for blood test thinking it was my 13mth of BFN's. And my dd is nearly 9 mths now! Good luck - desire for a baby can make us do funny things (like testing way before the test can be positive!) My fingers are crossed for you XX

MrsWood · 09/02/2006 20:28

Thanks for all the input - feel so much better now. My dh was worried in the first place so I said "I've heard you can be pg and still have periods blah blah blah...". When I later looked on google - says "Not possible"... So, I looked further and seemed to only find references of ectopic pg that can be with bleeding, so that's when I started to doubt myself and decided to phone NHS Direct to see. Now, they haven't phoned yet and I will go to GP tomorrow for her opinion and will let you all know. I'm also aware that ectopic is severe pain - my mum had it and I know she was suffering badly so i thought it's unlikely I'm having it as there is no pain - but as I said, I do have a niggle on my right side which quite honestly could be from how I'm sitting at the mo

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/02/2006 20:32

I got niggling pains on one side with both my pgs. Had early scans for both to be sure but it was just the corpus luteuos cyst. (normal).

Congratulations

FirstNikki · 10/02/2006 10:10

Best of luck Mrs Wood it really could be implantation x

MrsWood · 10/02/2006 11:19

As predicted NHS Direct were pretty useless - 4 people called me from when I called first and 11pm last night - the outcome? "Not sure, best to go to GPs". In their professional medical opinion. So, I'm off to GPs in 15 mins. to see what she makes of the pos. test and bleeding - which ahs increased today and now def. feels like period. Still, can't rest till I know - I hope she laughs and tells me it's just period. With my incompetent cervix and all the issues around that, I can't be dealing with more complications right now. Will post later on - maybe this evening, as it's my Birthday tomorrow so DH is taking me to cinema and for TGI's lunch after GPs.
