Period 3 days late but negative test - should I bother testing again?

Hiya, would be grateful for any advice!

My period was due on sunday. I took a test on monday and then yesterday morning, first thing - both negative. The tests I used were Tesco ones. In the instructions, it said that if you get a negative test after your period is due, you're very unlikely to be pregnant.

Thing is, I'm three days late now and I'm never late. But wonder if it's utterly pointless to spend any more money on a test if the negative result is as definite as it sounds like it is (from the advice in the leaflet). Has anyone had a positive result after a negative result from a test taken after period was due??

I'm in same boat now, well ish. i've only just started getting periods after illness a month ago, so I'm now late (if I have a normal cycle). Was due Friday, did a test sunday, BFN. Still waiting for AF though and no symptoms so far. Its probably because I now have dodgy cycles, wish I knew one way or the other though! the waiting is killing me. I have got another test, just don't want to use it unneccessarily, because I know that if I do one now and its still negative I'll only end up doing one every day until AF finally arrives!

Well I am out... AF arrived - looks like it was just a week late randomly. I assume I must have ovulated a week late for whatever reason and therefore missed it totallly! Ah well, back to day 1 and a new month.

Milly - first morning pee is meant to be most concentrated - try again tomorrow?! fingers crossed for you.

Unfortunately I started spotting and have that heavy tummy feeling which means I would expect AF to start properly within the next 24 hours.... never mind there is always next month! On the bright side, I'm off to a wine tasting tonight so at least I can have a few glasses without feeling guilty!

i was once told that the cheap ebay tests are bette than the expesive ones and never believed it until this month. i cant explain it but i had a real feeling that i was pregnant so i kept peeing on my really cheap ebay stcks. i started getting very very faint lines from 10 dpo. i didnt believe it so the day before af was due i tested on a tesco and got my bfp. i was over the moon but did the most stupid thing and tested again the next morning with fmu, got a negative!!!!! straight to the gp with said fmu and also got bfn. i was so upset but didnt give up went back to tesco and got clearblue digi and used the same urine and got bfp 1-2 weeks. so what im saying is dont give up keep trying and buy some ebay cheapies. they are more reliable than the ones the nhs use!!!!!

Hey-are any of you mums already before ttc here? I just wanted to check a theory! Have any of you tested negative a week after AF due and then positive and gone on to have girls? I have heard twice now that if you test positive late on after AF is due then carrying a girl and for a boy you get the BFP much earlier???!!!!
It seems to be true for my DS as I tested on day of ovulation and got a BFP and now very late but still testing negative!!!

I'm currently 3 days late now and I've done 3 tests. It is very unusual for me to be late, My cycle has been 26 days with the exception of last month it was 24 and now I'm on day 29!

It's possible I could be pregnant and for me to be so late then I feel like that's the only explanation but then I'm getting negative tests :( it's so frustrating not knowing one way or the other. With my little girl, I knew 2 days after my missed period when I tested and I didn't have any negative tests with her. Anyone in the same boat?

I'm in a similar boat - have always been very regular and am now 3 days late. Two tests so far and both negative :(

I had a miscarriage in mid-October at 11weeks, then a full period in mid-November so was hoping I might conceive again quickly....last time round we conceived at the first attempt. Had a negative test first last time then tested 3 days later and it was positive.

Think maybe my cycle is just haywire for a start, but am crossing my fingers until AF actually arrives....this is my first real experience of waiting/not knowing and it sucks!

I'm currently 3 days late been Ttc for 9 months and every month I'm obsessed if I'm pregnant yet but this is driving me crazy , I've done 3 boots tests but negative and at the age of 39 I'm worried , had water infections every month for 10 months now and dr just gives me anti biotics and sends me on my way x

Hi I'm new here. I'm useless at keeping track of AF. However I'm pretty sure I am 13 days late. Never been late or missed an AF except when having my son. I tested this morning using an asda own test but BFN.

On Sunday I wiped (tmi sorry) and had a spot of light pink to brown on the tissue, so thought AF was on way as i have had some cramping. Still nothing but have the bloated feeling and also what i can only describe as tummy stretching feeling and back ache. I am not sure what's going on as my son is 11 so can not think back to him any ideas?

I'm four days late and had AF type cramps for over a week now along with back ache and last night a sharp stabbing pain in left side of stomach just for 30 seconds or so..

Im in exactly the same boat atm, getting very frustrated as im desperate to be pregnant. If I am, im really only at most 2 weeks but I have done at least 2 tests already. Doctors have said to wait.....I'm not at all patient. I'm ill thinking ive worked my dates out wrong. Any advice is truly grateful. Tia :D

Hi girls. In the same boat as a few of you. I am 3 days late and am never late for AF. My cycles are always 28/29. Had a neg first response test this afternoon but I took it about 4.30. This morn I had a peachy coloured discharge when I wee'd and I thought I would come on but I didn't . My partner says I am not pregnant as I tested negative but I think I am still in with a chance. What u think? I am desperate for a baby. We are both in mid 30's and been trying for a year and half now

Hi Nic14, I'm in a similar situation.. Periods are pretty much bang on date but this time I'm 4-5 days late. Usually have a 27/28 day cycle. I've done two tests yesterday and day before but both negative, have been off the pill and trying for 2 months now. First time round it took us 7/8 months to conceive. No idea what's going on :( my partner says to wait another week to do a test. Just feeling impatient and want to know either way :( anyone have any thoughts? Advice?

Hi all I am also in the same situation 3 days late no af, no breast tenderness or any pregnancy symptoms had a pg test this afternoon using clear blue and got a BFN im just wondering if i tested the wrong time instead of the first early
morning urine.....or tested too early...huh! im so curious to know whats going on.....i really want a baby since I had a micarriage in Jan this yr at 11 weeks.

Hi Babydustcomeon, sorry to hear about your mis carriage and fingers crossed you're pregnant again and go on to have a healthy baby. I guess you'll have to hold on and see what happens ? I didn't realise up to now that some people test to early and it won't show for some time , I've still had no af.. Convinced I'm pregnant but not testing again until the weekend

Hi everyone, looking for some advice...
I have very regular periods, I always come on on a Thursday morning! However this month it's now Sunday and no sign! I've taken 2 tesco home tests - one yesterday morning and one this morning. Both negative. I'm so confused because I always come on on time but when I had my other two children I tested positive very early on. Is it worth going to the doctors yet? Or will they say I'm being impatient???

Have just read through this entire thread and decided to join as I am in exactly th same boat!
Period is as regular as clockwork until now im 3days late. Tests say negative though. Driving me crazy not knowing.
Came off pill at end of 2014 after over 8years on it constant. Periods have been regular no problems on it and coming off pill. Until now.
No sign whatsoever of af but also no pregnancy symptoms.
Going to try and wait and it hasnt come by Wednesday which would be a week late I'll test again. Although the urge to test everyday is overwhelming!
Trying not to get my hopes up as this is first time ttc!
Fingers crossed to everyone ttc and happy thoughts to all you on here years ago!

Hi I'm new to this, I'm 3 days late which I never am, I've already experienced several obvious signs recentlysuch as feeling queasy, being sick, headaches, cramps, swollen and bloated stomach, tiredness etc. I've done a few cheapie tests and a clear blue digital all of which negative, will try again in a week, just want to know!! Hi everyone, I know this is a really old thread so not sure if anyone is still reading it...

I'm in a similar situation to this. We're TTC, on cycle #2. My periods were like clockwork, 27 day cycles. AF is now 3 days late, and I've had 3 BFNs. Each was as clear as day! I've also been monitoring my BBT, which has dropped in the last 2 days. However I'm not great at taking my temp at same time every morning, so not sure how reliable that info is.

I didn't have usual PMT signs (which tend to also be like clockwork). I also had some really intense cramps last weekend - about 6 days before AF due. Not sure when I ovulated - I bought tests too late to check, I think!? Still learning about all this business.

In short, I am trying to convince myself to expect AF any minute (with lots of obsessive trips to the loo to check!). But I can't help but have a tiny bit of hope. I know that's silly. Just needed to share. If anyone is still reading this, any information about your experiences would be great. :)
