anyone else see imaginary lines?

Ok I may possibly have reached my most desperate point so far, I may well be making myself believe I can see a faint line Sad. I'm also struggling to not go obsessively back to the test to re-look and figure out whether there is a faint line there or if I am just making myself see things. It's the kind of faint line where 2 times after looking at the test I didn't even see it, and then after a lot of squinting and staring I wondered "am I making myself see things" (and I reckon I probably am).

My AF is due in 2 days, it is going to be a particularly long and torturous 2 days.

EsmeWeatherwax · 21/05/2011 18:52

Yes, me. I am in exactly this situation right now! Two days til af due also. Longest two days ever!

GenericDietCola · 21/05/2011 20:15

Me too! I thought I was about 14 or 15 dpo so did a test this am and got a very faint line. An hour or so later it was a strong pink line. So it is either an evaporation line or I am not as many days po as I thought.

Dizzy and Esme did you keep your tests and what do they look like now?

Any thoughts?

fledtoscotland · 21/05/2011 22:12

Fingers cross for you ladies. Over the last 17months I have examined so many sticks I know where the lines should be so I can almost visualise them. Unfortunately all I see is the evap line :(

If the line is getting stronger through, surely thats a line and a line means a BFP

DizzyKipper · 21/05/2011 22:28

Hmm, well whilst doing my obsessive googling I did see one webpage say that BFP lines will have the same colour as the test, where as evaporation lines are colourless/grey. So hopefully that's something in your favour DietCola.

I've thrown the test away now, after several hours after first testing though the test was looking extremely dry and the faint line hadn't seemed to change much.

One day almost down, another day to go Hmm

GenericDietCola · 22/05/2011 10:10

Hope this gives you some help, ladies. I POAS again this morning and the line developed within the allotted time so it looks like a BFP.

Dizzy I did a lot of Googling last night too - it's amazing how many photos of HPTs are available on the Internet. I agree an evap line is supposed to be grey or colourless.

Scotland - I hope you see a lovely blue or pink line soon - fx.

DizzyKipper · 22/05/2011 10:13

Congrats on the BFP DietCola Smile

I'm getting painful twinges down there, AF due tomorrow. Not looking good, may have to do a voodoo chant or something to keep the witch at bay.

OP posts:
GenericDietCola · 22/05/2011 11:06

Thanks, Dizzy! I am getting cramps on and off too and in my experience that is a normal symptom of early pregnancy too, so let's hope you're wrong about AF.

DizzyKipper · 22/05/2011 11:12

I really hope so, been googling quite a bit to convince myself of it Wink I also don't normally get cramps right up until AF, and they're normally a lot more painful than this (hope hope hope). How many children do you have?

OP posts:
GenericDietCola · 22/05/2011 14:04

Hope hope hope for you too!

I've got a DD, 20 months. I've also had 2 miscarriages, so this is my 4th pregnancy. Hoping this one is going to work out.

Fx for you - are you testing tomorrow?

Stangirl · 22/05/2011 17:26

Good luck to all you ladies. I couldn't quite believe it when I saw the faintest of lines back in October so took the test to my GP. She laughed and said "a line is a line - you're pg". I'm due 11th July.

fledtoscotland · 23/05/2011 08:43

Congratulations!

Thanks genericdietcola- sort of getting used BFNs - I prefer OPKs cos at least I get a line :)

DizzyKipper · 23/05/2011 08:59

Af not here so far, and I managed to avoid the temptation of POAS. It's my day off so just need to keep myself busy and my mind off it, and if AF doesn't arrive will be testing tomorrow Smile

OP posts:
GenericDietCola · 23/05/2011 13:09

Well done Dizzy, let's hope tomorrow brings good news!

DizzyKipper · 24/05/2011 06:53

BFN Sad

That very very faint line appeared within the first 5mins, however it has no colour to it/is greyish and it looks more like a shadow, so I'm certain it's just an evaporation line rather than a BFP.

I was really getting to believe it this month, feel so upset Sad

OP posts:
Stangirl · 24/05/2011 08:02

Dizzy - I'm sorry. How long have you been ttc?

DizzyKipper · 24/05/2011 08:14

This is only my second month, so I know it's a bit silly of me to be this upset and many people have been trying for longer. But I've been waiting for over 3 years just to start ttc already, and even though I was on the pill just about every month I would get myself in a mess hoping against the odds that I might have accidentally been upduffed - but the darn pills were effective! I know it's still early days for ttc yet, but I feel like I've been waiting for so long already, I really don't want it to take ages to conceive as well.

OP posts:
WorzselMaamage · 24/05/2011 08:19

Evaporation lines done occur on tests immediantly, the clue is in the name, the form when the urine evaporates and the urine dries out. That's hy you should only look at tests in the allotted time.

If your second line was visable in the right time it's probably a bfP :)

What sort of test was it ?

Stangirl · 24/05/2011 08:20

Dizzy - you don't sound silly at all. I don't know enough about the test you used - but it might well be worth a second try tomorrow to see if the line's darker. BTW I myself took a very long time to conceive after waiting a very long time to find someone I wanted to conceive with (met at 35 had first DC at 41 and due another in July at 42). I also have many many friends who only started ttc in their mid-30s. The main tips for the top are have loads of sex (I know that sounds daft but in the pressured environment of ttc it is strangely overlooked) and if you take longer than 6 months go straight to your GP and start asking for exploratory tests - no piont hanging about.

DizzyKipper · 24/05/2011 08:34

Thanks for the responses. It was a one-step ultra test strip, the 10mIU sensitivity ones. I think I'll try holding off for a few days before testing again, if AF doesn't get here first.

OP posts:
WorzselMaamage · 24/05/2011 08:36

Take a picture Grin

DizzyKipper · 24/05/2011 08:39

Sorry I did try this morning but my camera isn't good enough, it just came up really pixellated and none of you would've been able to see the line (OH has confirmed I'm not going mad and seeing things though).

OP posts:
GenericDietCola · 24/05/2011 11:43

Oh Dizzy hope you get a nice, strong BFP soon. If no AF yet, you're still in the running.

DizzyKipper · 24/05/2011 12:04

Hmm, I have just got some spotting - not very much and it's old, dark brown blood rather than the heavy, bright red blood I normally get at the beginning of a period. Am trying to work out whether implantation bleeding could possibly take this long to come out (it's been 4 days since I got the first faint line, meaning implantation would've had to have happened before).

OP posts:
GenericDietCola · 24/05/2011 13:44

Could be implantation - try another test in the morning - FX

DizzyKipper · 24/05/2011 13:56

Thanks think I may do (will have to wait 'til OH leaves the house - we agreed to test Friday :s). Been googling again and am now wondering if it could instead be breakthrough bleeding - unlike implantation bleeding it's supposed to happen around the time you get your period (apparently the hormones controlling your "bleed" switch are still active for some women early on) and can also resemble light spotting. Still no full-blown AF, if she doesn't get here by tomorrow I might let myself get slightly more optismistic.
