Jump on if you are a TTCer hoping that this cycle is 'the one' and will result in a sprog or sprogette due in November.

Welcoming season ticket holders and new passengers.

Ding ding!

Hi Ladies, can I jump on this bus please. AF came yesterday, 3 days early so I'm determined to get it right this month!

I've got an appointment at the Docs tomorrow, already had the 21 day test done, which came back fine. If anyone has any hints on how to get the best answers from my Doc, they would be greatly received. I'm fed up hearing that it will happen. I'm going to be 39 this year and had an emc when I had my dd, none of which is doing me any favours I think!

Good Luck!!

Hi doflies. I know how you feel getting fed up of waiting. I am going to phone the docs tomorrow to talk to her about fertility. Haven't quite been trying a year, but near enough and we have timed it right almost every month so am a bit worried this will never happen. What is the 21 day test and what does it check?

OP posts:
DoFliesHaveKnees · 27/01/2011 21:05

Hi Raven, the 21 day test is a blood test that checks to see if you are ovulating. My doc says the results came back fine and when I asked him if that meant it would be something less to worry about, he said not really, cos it only meant I was ovulating the month they checked Hmm

Will let you know what (if anything) tomorrow's doctor says!

AuntieDoris · 27/01/2011 22:04

Hello people, I am joining this bus... hopefully it will be a happy and successful bus this time

TTC1 Cycle 6 CD8 UCL28(ish)

(this is CD8 today - is that right for how it works)

BlueCrane · 28/01/2011 11:39

Morning all and welcome to auntiedoris I'm feeling somewhat more positive about everything this morning...CD2. Amazing what a good nights sleep does! Smile

My challenges this month:
a) spot when ov happenning by noticing ewcm
b) SWI every other day through the right weeks
c) try not to stress out during the 2ww
d) not POAS until at least CD32 if AF not arrived
e) try to stay calm, cool and collected throughout Grin

Let's see how I get on eh?!

raven and doflies how have you chats with the docs gone?

ravenlocks · 28/01/2011 18:10

Waves to AuntieD

Loving the positive mental attitude bluecrane, those sound like my resolves too!

How was the docs doflies? I called and made an apt for 10th Feb, had to wait that long to get to see the one I want. Hopefully I will have ovulated by then and they can take some bloods. Also booked a smear with nurse a few days earlier after being shamed into it by 100th chasing letter. Is it ok to get smear when TTC and at the crucial 'mid month' point - should I avoid SWI beforehand?

OP posts:
DoFliesHaveKnees · 28/01/2011 18:57

Hi Ladies, Doc's appointment went better than I thought. Told him this was month 12 ttc and he said, 'oh well, time to refer I think'.

I then said I had had a section for my dd and I realised it could take longer to conceive and he agreed, I also asked if having an emcs made it worse and he agreed. With me being 35 when I had my dd and being 38 now, he had no hesitation in referring us to the fertility clinic. He also gave me a wee pot for DH to do his stuff into Grin

Feeling a bit more positive about things now! Hope your appointment goes ok when it comes round Raven! I'm sure its ok to get a smear when ttc and I wouldn't let it interrupt your SWI timetableGrin

lucyintheskywithdinos · 28/01/2011 20:05

Hello!

Glad your appointment went well Doflies, hope that the referral is fast.

I'm exhausted and have PMT so feel a but all over the place. Had a weird dream last night where I had a homebirth (that is the plan, have already had 2) while a party was going on downstairs and the baby was a boy. Well, I have been worrying about DD1's reaction if potential baby is a boy, she REALLY wants another girl!

level · 28/01/2011 22:26

ravenlocks I went for a smear after ovulation and before AF (for obvious reasons!).

When I went to the docs to get sent for bloods etc the doc was rather unimpressed that I'd never had a successful smear (and I'm 32). I went in my early 20s twice and they messed it up both times and didn't get a result - I was so annoyed I didn't go back.

Ot's a good thing you've booked for bloods as it gives you peace of mind. I went for my day 3 test today and on the screen I could see that the results of the day 21 test were in and the screen said "ovulating" in green. I pointed out to the nurse that my results were back and she seemed a bit uninterested - just said "oh yes everything is normal including your thyroid levels (didn't even know they had checked that). Noone had bothered to call me about the results!

Anyway, even though I was sure I was ovulating I'm pretty pleased it's all checked out OK.

Now I just need to wait and see if I have ancient eggs!

ravenlocks · 29/01/2011 09:00

Glad the doctor was so good doflies, hope the referral is quick.

Hey level fab news that 21 day tests confirmed ovulation! What are the day 3 tests looking for? Does that check out egg quality? (You can tell I have no idea on the fertility test front can't you?!)

Tee hee about home birth in the middle of a party!

level · 29/01/2011 09:50

Day 3 test is for follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). If your FSH level is too high I think your body is having to work overly hard to stimulate the follicles - apparently it indicates the onset of menopause, a hormonal imbalance or improper function of the ovaries.

Don't worry about not knowing. When I told the nurse taking my blood that I was there for my day 3 blood test she said "what's that for", so I said "fertility testing" and she asked "what are we looking for" so I said "FSH" and her response was "let's check google"- She had no clue! Good thing I'd done my googling in advance.

ravenlocks · 29/01/2011 12:51

Ah right, thanks Level. Good luck for the results, when do you get them?

Welcome cep!

Welcome Weimy!

Good news on the ovulation level, one of my pet hates is ill-informed HCPs though. I had an argument with a sonographer about charting fertility once, she had never heard of it and declared it impossible.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend, I'll be at the allotment all day tomorrow planting a Hazel hedge!

ravenlocks · 30/01/2011 12:25

Not fancy a Nov baby starlight? I thought I would prefer a Summer baby, but now I don't give a sh*tnn when, just want one! It can come on Xmas day for all I care....!

Hi weimy, added you. Looks like you are giving it everything you have got this cycle, good luck!!

I sympathise Starlight, March is like that for us, BIL, DD2, my Dad and me within 10 days!

I have been informing my ovaries that November would be a good month to be born as it makes for good birthday spacing, and means I can really indulge myself with knitting tiny baby clothes!

Hi all,
Can I join?
First bus I have been on although have been ttc#1 in a slightly haphazard way since mid september.
Have only been having periods for less than a year due to being on the injection. Had two good cycles now as my others were 12 days each so hoping this is the month!
Havent really gone in for ovulation tests etc as hoping it will all happen in a magically wonderful natural way Grin
I'm on cd 6 so would be very end of october/ beginning of November so I'm jumping on board!

ghosteditor · 30/01/2011 15:36

hello to the new bus travellers!

I just found out that a friend of a friend is 12 weeks along after 7 months of TTC. Friend was saying 'oh I'm so glad you're not having a baby, ghost, you're the only one of my married friends who's not going crazy over babies, so pleased you're still young like the rest of us'

?

I was quite amused really! There was a wee bit of smirking on my part. I'm at that age where most of my friends are either married or very much single (and proud of it). I'm 27 so I think it's perfectly reasonable to be TTC, but my circle of friends is crazily overeducated so they're all just starting professional careers and not thinking about kids. I'm already much older than anyone in my family to be having kids so I think I've been quite restrained Grin.
