The resurrection of the 6th form common room for those inbetweeners who are TTC/PG after mc and are too long in the tooth to fit anywhere else

The resurrection of the 6th form common room, a place to put your feet up, wallow in self pity (me) or rejoice (and tremble in fright) at new growing beans and baybees after mc. No lists. No stats. No babydust. No feeling bad if you can't keep up.

Go.

Sorry haven't really read all the posts, but I did spot mummya's news from her specialist.

I just wanted to tell give you a slightly off-topic example of how even though specialists can be the best in their field there's still so much that they don't know about pregnancy and how it can be successful despite conditions not being exactly to their standard. My DH was asked to do a Semen Anaylsis as part of our rmc testing. The results came back right at the very bottom of each 'normal' range, but we were told that because my pregnancy rate was pretty high (BFP within 2-4 cycles each time) that we didn't need to worry about it. I mentioned the exact measurements to my acupuncturist who deals with lots of IVF patients and knows many of the top Harley St specialists...he said that if the UK's top urologist specialising in male fertility had seen DH's results (2% morphology, low motility, low volume) that he would have insisted that IVF with ICSI would be the only way I'd get pregnant. Not really the news I wanted to hear when we'd staretd TTC, yet I'm now on my fourth pregnancy within 16 months. So somehow, those few good swimmers have managed to find their way to egg each time.

It's great that you've done so much research into your condition. But you also need to have a bit of faith. You've gone from no periods, to having periods. That's brilliant. So now keep on with the suggested treatment, but do have it in mind that you've got a good chance to get pg and have a healthy baby at the end of it.

Not quite an AS success story anecdote, but I'm really rooting for you.

Rubbish news mummy, I'm so sorry xx
Bb is right though you could be the exception rather than the rule here and wouldn't it be wonderful if you had already conceived?! I do hope so xx

((hugs))

mamapower · 22/02/2011 13:11

Mummy that brought a tear to my eye... you sound so disheartened and the 'when will it ever end' feeling must just be compounding all the heartache and adding to your angst and stress. Try and stay strong. If I could pop round and hug you I would... a virtual one has been sent xxx

AliTheMinx · 22/02/2011 13:13

Hey Lovely Ladies! Can I join in, please?

Just got my BFP on Saturday - now 5 weeks 2 days, so very early days. Over the moon, but equally anxious as hell, after a MC at 6 weeks last May, and one at 10 weeks 2 days in late November. Just heartbreaking.

I have PCOS and saw a specialist privately (as NHS were rubbish), and now on a drug called Metformin, which may help to balance hormones and sustain the pregnancy, so just hoping for a miracle. Trying to stay positive but it's so damn hard after such awful losses.... but hey - THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE.

Have been promised an early scan at 7-8 weeks, and just hoping and praying there'll be a heartbeat. Will keep you posted.

Lots of love and luck to you all, Ali xxxxxxxxxxxx

P.S. I am sure that 2 things helped me to conceive again so quickly - my Clearblue Fertility Monitor and also the Zestica Fertility Spray. Both highly recommended.

AliTheMinx · 22/02/2011 13:29

BTW - at the mo, Boots have a 2 for 1 offer on First Response - I got 2 2-packs for £10 on Saturday!

mummyabroad · 22/02/2011 16:01

Thanks for all your lovely supportive messages and enouraging stories ladies. Its my birthday tommorrow (and Jolls'!) so I guess I was just having a big wibble, I usually get a bit down right before a birthday. I am trying to remind myself that nothing really bad has actually been PROVED to be true. So whats really happening is I am worrying about what COULD happen, which is a bit pointless really.

Also, strange thing happened this morning. I tested BFN, and then checked the stick again an hour later - exactly as you are not supposed to do Hmm - and there is a tiny feint line (you really have to squint). I know it doesnt mean anything if it doesnt come up within the time frame, but I fished yesterdays test out of the bin and it is (to use Joll's expression) virginally white.Smile So I am hopeful again. I am not going to test again until tommorrow, its quite nice having hope but not a definite answer and I dont want to kill it by seeing a BFN if I retest.

I am going to spend the afternoon making and eating chocolate cake with DS and then sit down and work out what my plan will be if AF does come. I need a CD1 plan like Izzy (that really struck a chord)

By the way all this ibuprofen info is new to me and really interesting. Battery bear it in mind when you go for your hyst - I took loads for my HSG and was TTC that month. Have they offered you pain med by the way?

AliTheMinx Hi, welcome to the thread. congratulations on your BFP, you must be really pleased. Smile Which specialist did you see? There are obviously very good!

batteryhen · 22/02/2011 16:25

Hi MummyA - I am going to take 75mg of diclofenac and co-codamol. I didn't ask about pain control as I knew I had loads and will self medicate.!

My CD1 plan is to book or plan something nice for that month. I have booked some leave to see DP, and we are going to book a nice holiday in April. It is nice I think to have something to look forward to, when you are feeling a bit :(

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 22/02/2011 16:26

ooh mummya that sounds hopeful I really really hope this is it for you xx

I think birthdays are a bit like Christmas, they're another reminder that a year has passed and you can't help but think about what has and hasn't happened and reflect on where you are now and where you're heading. Which is great if you've had a good year, not so good if you haven't.

velvet the private consultation plus scan and blood tests would be £560 (it's an extra £125 for sperm test but given that we've conceived three times and nothings changed for dh, ie he hasn't been through pgs, births, mc and erpc, I don't think that's a problem). Basically if I kept working 4 days instead of 3 through March that would just about pay for it. So it's not out of reach financially, it's just that dh doesn't want to go down that route. I don't know what's best.

Ali welcome and congrats Smile

Velvetcu · 22/02/2011 17:03

mummya faint line sounds good even if it was after the time especially if the one before is still white. Suspenders are on lovely :)

Izz I hope you and DH work out what to do. Mine is annoying me again because he wont let me tell anyone about the bfp whereas I want to tell my mum coz I'm going mental and will need someone if it goes wrong again. If only there was a way of making them feel what we do, just for a couple of hours they would understand!

I can't believe it's Wednesday tomorrow! I've done the housework and washing today so I can mark books tomorrow Hmm

mummyabroad · 22/02/2011 17:04

battery I was advised by the hospital to self medicate for the HSG and was glad I did. I took a dose of declofenac the night before, and another dose + paracetomol an hour before the procedure. Lots of American ladies ask for valium too - I wish I had, I hate these kinds of procedures now and find it all so stressful. Holiday booking is a great idea for CD1.Smile I guess I could save my pennies up for treats like a facial or massage and book it for CD1 days.

Izz Very true about reflecting - I was happily pregnant this time last year.Sad Doing the testing sounds like a very financial sound option if you are able to save the money in a month. Why not put that money in a separate account so its there if you want to go ahead? (you could always splurge it on CD1 if you decide not to do the tests!)

I can understand how much more important this is to you than your DH. I am in the same boat, I am trying to make mine understand that after investing, time, money, and emotions into this "project" (getting pregnant) for a whole year its not so easy to just drop it and give up. I think he really got I how I feel when I asked him if he would be able to give up on having his dream career job after a year of doing his Masters at night school, working really hard at his current job etc. Personally I think getting tested is good idea because having information about what is going on in your body makes you feel much more in control and there are some fairly quick and easy cures out there that are worth trying, as in "AliTheMinx"'s case. xxx

mummyabroad · 22/02/2011 17:22

ok so it turns out I have a will of jelly...

just tested again on a different brand but still internet cheapie. Virginally white BFN at first but an hour later it has a little shadow of a line just like the first one. Hope returns!!Smile

Velvetcu · 22/02/2011 17:25

lol mummya what time will you be testing in the morning?

Velvetcu · 22/02/2011 17:35

ooohhh guess what I've just worked out!
If this is a sticky bean, we've got a reason to tell the BIL to move out Grin Grin Grin

mummyabroad · 22/02/2011 17:49

Great idea Velvet! I wake up around 6.30 thats 12.30pm your time. Hope I have some tests left by then... Blush Wink Grin

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 22/02/2011 18:05

mummya that sounds soooo promising!!!! You'll have to let us know how it goes with fmu, but it's looking good so far!!!

I'm liking the work analogy, maybe if I try explaining it to dh in those terms he would understand a bit better [slightly sceptical emoticon]

mousebacon · 22/02/2011 18:06

Hi ladies can I ask your advice?

I've just taken another hpt and it's still positive. It'll be 4 weeks since the erpc on Thursday. Is that normal? My bleeding is practically nothing now and when I've compared it to the test I took last week it's not any lighter.

Doyou think I should phone the ward?

mousebacon · 22/02/2011 18:08

Ooh mummya - fingers crossed for you xx

batteryhen · 22/02/2011 18:17

mouse - if you are concerned give them a call - with my erpc I had a negative test 2 weeks after. Also - you just want to get on with things too so give them a call, they could at least do your hcg if nothing else. xxx

mummya - fingers crossed for you :)

Still no AF - am off to acupuncture - see if she can get things moving!!

mummyabroad · 22/02/2011 19:43

mouse I would give someone a call and see if you can get your HCG done, it could be a really low level and tailing off, in which case you would have a bit more peace of mind than you do now, if it does come up high then perhaps you could take cytotec tablets to help expel anything that might be left in there and get your cycles back sooner rather than later. Is it a really strong line you are getting?

battery Do you normally have a 14+ luteal phase?

nickstermum · 22/02/2011 20:00

not long til 12.30pm

Grin
mummyabroad · 22/02/2011 20:07

randomimposter · 22/02/2011 20:34

oooo, mummyA am so hoping for a BFP for our birthday! Have all crossed for you.

sorry will catch up on other news when I have 2 tics x

getawiggleon · 22/02/2011 20:48

Mummy I have everything crossed for you and extra flashy suspenders on. Do you have any tests other than internet cheapies so that you can compare results?

Mouse I can't remember how long it took to get bfn after erpc but seem to think it was around 2 weeks. I think I'd contact the ward and see what they say, they may offer blood tests to see if your hcg is falling.

Izzy I'm paying for private tests next month. I decided that it was worth it for piece of mind esp as I'm not getting v far with my GP. I'm using redundancy money. Plus if there's a slight hormonal imbalance or something preventing pg that can be adjusted I want to know about it now rather than a year down the line when age will be even less on my side than it is now!

mousebacon · 22/02/2011 20:55

Good luck mummya Smile

The tests I've been using are the 10miu Internet cheapies so pretty sensitive I suppose. The blood test is a fab idea - I'd really like to avoid fanjo cam!

I just want to move on, have af and ttc again. It's so frustrating.

Will ring the gp in the morning. Do you think it's something the practice nurse could do?

Happy birthday for tomorrow jolls and mummy

battery fingers crossed for you too Grin
