Hi,

We were talking about this a lot on the charting thread and thought it would be good to start a separate thread.

There's about 3 of us at the moment but please do join us too if you are TTC with this added probem.

My results were 9.07 and then a few weeks later 5.5. I'm due another blood test in 5 weeks and hopefully my GP should be starting me on Thyroxin soon.

Quite worried cos the NHS guidelines say your numbers should be a lot lower when pregnant. still i haven't got that BFP yet so I guess I'll worry then.

ladygonegaga and Bessie26 - hurry up and join me here Grin.

louin sorry to hear about AF, but it does mean you get a few weeks to do some Xmas celebrations (ie drink loads of mulled wine) The new year is a better time to concieve anyway, it means DC will be one of the oldest in his year (rather than youngest) which is supposed to be good! (can't remember why exactly!)

Hi ses I used to keep my pills next to my thermometer to help me remember to take them. Since I stopped temping I have found it alot harder to remember, but haven't missed any yet!

essenceofSES · 24/11/2010 10:50

Hello again!

Bessie - now why didn't I think of that?! Doh! Tablets by thermometer from tomorrow :)

louin - sorry for AF. Here's to next month!

Hello everyone else! My regular day off work today and trying to get to Jo Jingles music group with DS but I've locked myself out Shock and DS is still inside Shock DS is in his playpen so can't get up to too much mischief and I can see him. I am freezing out here (no coat!) with only my iPhone for company. Can't get hold of my parents who have a spare key so my friend is going round there to get it (hopefully!) and then on to rescue me!

essenceofSES · 24/11/2010 10:52

I'm a bit of a numpty, aren't I?

bessie26 · 24/11/2010 12:20

ses did you say you were a pharmasist?! Wink - hope you're not stuck outside for too long!

I just stumbled upon a few links to the "British Thyroid Foundation" - not sure how useful they are unless you pay to become a member though - is anyone here a member?

Err...yes Bessie, I am a pharmacist (honest!)

After a bit of an effort , got key from my mum and back inside.

LadyGoneGaga · 24/11/2010 16:38

Got TSH levels back. 2.35 at 4 weeks pregnant. I think I need to up my dose, don't I? Have asked Dr to call me on Friday.

bessie26 · 24/11/2010 18:15

Ladyggg my consultant said to aim for 2-3, but as long as it was under 5 it was ok. Will be interesting to hear what yours says!

NarcolepsyQueen · 24/11/2010 18:30

You all seem so much more knowledgeable that me (hangs head in shame). I am 15 + 5 weeks and insisted on a blood test being taken as soon as I got a BFP (bloods were taken at 4 + 4). The result said I had a TSH of 4.8. The doctor said that was fine and didnt adjust my tablets. Does that sound right?

essenceofSES · 24/11/2010 18:36

Can I start again?! I feel like I made the worst ever first impression on a thread Blush

Regarding dosages, my understanding was that normally it was ideal to have a TSH of less than 5.0 but during my last pregnancy my endocrinologist wanted me to get it below 2.0

It doesn't help when there's such different advice!

iggiii · 25/11/2010 12:44

Don't be silly Essence!

That's the advice I've heard too.
Must remember to collect more thyroxine from chemist tomorrow as about to run out and in London for the weekend (and guys from this thread going to the meet?)
(not asking that so I can steal your thyroxine by the way!)

NarcolepsyQueen · 25/11/2010 14:22

thanks supersunnyday - thats what i think too! My GPs are a bit pants to be honest, so I might wait until I see the hospital consultant next week.

essenceofSES · 25/11/2010 20:08

Thanks supersunnyday and iggiii :)

iggiii - is that the MN Christmas meet up you're going to? Have fun!

supersunnyday - that sounds like a good plan to increase to 150mcg and review in 4 weeks. Congrats on your pg by the way!

NarcolepsyQueen - congrats to you too! If you're seeing the consultant next week, I'm sure they'll review your dosage then.

NarcolepsyQueen · 26/11/2010 08:14

Grrr - consultatnt appointment has been delayed until the end of january (I'll be 25 weeks by then!). think I'll hust have to go back to the GP and take some information in with me!

bessie26 · 26/11/2010 09:25

NarcolepsyQueen can you try to get a cancellation appointment for your consultant?

spilttheteaagain · 26/11/2010 10:16

supersunny glad you got a nurse who could help.

I've just had both arms emptied (or so it feels!) - veins kept collapsing so it took 4(!!) attempts to get blood out.

My antibodies are 75 (reference gives under 60 as a negative result, 60-100 as may be clinically significant and 101+ as a positive). As I have some hypothyroid symptoms they want to review in 3 months.

My TSH 7 weeks ago was 6.7 but they didn't test FT4 and FT3 then so I asked for all three to be repeated which they've done this morning.

Interestingly I read that TSH peaks in the night, declining to less than half its peak value by the afternoon, and that tests should be done in the morning. My 6.7 reading was at 4pm so I am very interested to see what I get this time.

We can't ttc just yet due to my toxoplasma infection so not yet on any thyroxine as apparently 6.7 is near enough normal Hmm

I have booked to see my lovely doctor when he's back from holiday to get these full results and request a thyroxine trial due to symptoms, highish TSH, some antibodies and imminent ttc-ing. Got to wait until 17th Dec though but he is worth it Smile

NarcolepsyQueen · 27/11/2010 17:32

I have phoned Bessie, but there will be nobody there (?) until Jan! I have never seen ANYBODY ever about my thyroid - I just go for blood tests once a year, and phone the doctors receptionist for the results ("your levels are fine"). How do you all know so much about it?!

spilttheteaagain · 27/11/2010 18:35

Narcolepsy if you book an appointment with a GP you can ask for the actual results and reference ranges. There seem to be lots of reference ranges in use around the country so "fine" in one place won't be fine somewhere else.

bessie26 · 27/11/2010 21:00

Narcolepsy "no-one there"?! How bizzare! Perhaps all the consultants have gone for an early ski holiday? Hmm

I was just seeing my GP about my thyroid, but once I fell pg I was put on "consultant-led" care rather than midwife-led (partly because of the thyroid thing & partly because DD was prem.) I get my blood tests repeated every 6-8wks, and I've seen my consultant twice (I am 20wks)

All I know about thyroids I've learnt on here & from the NHS Guidance - suggest you print it out and take it with you to your GP appointment!

spilt - interesting about the TSH declining during the day - I'll make sure I get mine tested first thing in the morning from now on!
