I posted a while ago asking for advice about half a positive line on an HPT and things haven't got any clearer.

I am now on CD52 and have spotted on CD24/25 and then again on CD33 and on and off most days since then. There's been no normal period blood, nor has there been spotting every day. It's been dark, dark red/almost black or old brown blood and only when I wipe.

Is this something I should be worried about? If I go to the doctor is it likely they'll just tell me to go home and wait? I do have PCOS and fibroids, but have never had any spotting before.

If it's just a wait and see, excellent.

If anyone thinks something needs checking out, I'll visit the doctor.

I really don't understand my body this month .

Yes go to the doctor - continual spotting in pregnancy should be checked out, if you are not pregnant then you definitely need to get checked out.

daisydotandgertie · 26/07/2010 22:09

Sorry - I have had neg hpts since the half a positive. I didn't make that very clear at all.

I am under a consultant for infertility - I have had 3 cycles of Clomid (but stopped taking it about 3 months ago) and have had a number of tests and investigations.

I don't want to waste their time if they're just going to tell me to wait and see what happens. What could cause this amount of spotting? I can't think of a thing.

Not many good things cause spotting. Sorry to be harbinger of doom but you do need to check it's not:

Cervical erosion.
Hormonal imbalance
Infections

Which is why you do need to go see the GP. Keep a note of when the spotting happens.

Good luck.

daisydot

You need to speak to the consultant whose care you are under currently.

This spotting should be investigated further as a matter of course. You will not be wasting their time; it is also vitally important that you three can work as a team.

daisydotandgertie · 27/07/2010 11:42

Thank you ladies.

I suppose it is common sense to seek some advice/investigation. I'll get in touch with the consultant and arrange an appointment.

It'd be lovely to have normal insides.

I've not had a predictable length cycle for a while now. According to FF, the average length has been 32.8, with ranges from 23 days to very wierdly a whopper which was almost exactly a year ago and ran to 86 days.

It has to be a co-incidence doesn't it? That on 5 June 2009 I started what turned out to be an 86 day cycle and then on the 5 June 2010 I started what looks to be another exceptional cycle.

The ones in between have been reasonably normal at between 28 - 34 days.

I know pg hormone can show up on a OPK; can ovulation be detected on an HPT?

Unless you are a mountain goat I sincerely believe it is a coincidence.

Look, give your consultant's secretary a call and say you need to come in and have a chat. If you do have a problem you need to deal with it or you will not get pregnant.

broodywantcoilout · 19/08/2010 20:39

hi
just to say i have found this interesting reading
want to ttc #3, waiting to have coil out (they cant find strings)
but
had 'normal' period, 1 week off tehn another 'normal' one, 2 weeks off then anotehr that started really light, a couple of days later heavy for a day then almost nothing again for a few days. since then i get the odd day with spotting-which gets worse after sex
sont want to bother dr- 'hi, my periods r pissing me off'-wot can they do?
after reading this, perhaps i shoul speak up thanks

newyearsday · 22/08/2010 17:17

daisydot I have fibroids and the irregular cycle lengths and spotting/bleeding between cycles are symptoms I have too. Do definitely discuss it with your consultant.

It's so confusing and upsetting when you're ttc :0(

I've found charting my cycles has really helped me (checking basal body temperature and other signs) to understand my body better. I'm not the only one - there's a thread called Charters Anonymous Vol 2. so take a look!

All the best xx

daisydotandgertie · 26/08/2010 10:48

If there's anyone still checking this thread, I've just come back from the doctor and he has confirmed I'm having a miscarriage.

I started a period 16 days ago and it's been awful for all that time see this thread so I went to the doctor for help today.

The half a line and lengthy spotting was obviously more significant than I thought.

Really sorry to hear that daisy. I hope you're ok.

newyearsday · 26/08/2010 13:26

Hi daisy I didn't appreciate you were bleeding so heavily, you poor thing, what an awful experience. Take good care of yourself, I'm sending a big hug xxx

daisydotandgertie · 26/08/2010 15:30

Thank you newyear - the bleeding started a couple of weeks ago - but at least I know why now. That feels a bit better!

I do use fertility friend, but have given up with temping because I have PCO as well which apparently buggers up temperature taking. TTC is not that much fun Smile,
