I like that solution!

edam · 25/07/2007 21:52

I want a proper, full apology, personally. I entered because ds would be soooo very excited to meet Justin and he loves ITNG. So being fobbed off with a non-excuse doesn't really cut it, tbh.

MerlinsBeard · 25/07/2007 21:54

me too Edam...DS1 would sell all his toys for the ninky nonk (is that the train?)

MerlinsBeard · 25/07/2007 21:54

and its helping DS2s speech problems actually with all the different sounds in it

edam · 25/07/2007 22:00

Aw, that's lovely MOM. I adore the music, could happily drift off to the theme tune for hours. Ds always tries to identify all the instruments.

Shame this competition rubbish has poisoned such a lovely, clever, well-produced programme. If they were going to rip people off, couldn't they have chosen the ruddy Fimbles?!

FlameParakeet · 25/07/2007 22:02

I have only watched it the last couple of times (normally a dump and run programme ), but I sat and said "Ooh look at the birds" to DS and DD glared at me "They bein a iano!" (never adds the "p" for some reason"

MerlinsBeard · 25/07/2007 22:02

or the eternally irritating Shiney Show?

MerlinsBeard · 25/07/2007 22:04

wonder who the other 2 were that won then?

it says 4 MNetters will win and Dinosaur and Pimms o clock had won before it closed.

edam · 25/07/2007 22:12

Yeah, if it had been that Shiny Show rubbish, I wouldn't have been so cross about it, probably.

MerlinsBeard · 25/07/2007 22:12

i wouldn't have entered lol!

edam · 25/07/2007 22:21

God, me neither. Or that awful Granny Murray thing. Or that bizarre Songcatcher. Or Barnaby Bear. I could do a very long list of children's programmes I hate. Such a shame that people acting on behalf of one of the programmes I like and admire have behaved in such a disreputable way.

FlameParakeet · 26/07/2007 07:40

What is it with that freaky Barnaby Bear programme?! Why can't they show more new stuff (the Newbury Bypass one is starting to irk somewhat now)

alibubbles · 26/07/2007 10:13

I entered hoping to win so I could take the little boy who I would have that day through the community childcare scheme, it would have been such a treat for him.

mummypud · 26/07/2007 13:39

glad im not the only one thats annoyed then , i know only 4 were going to win but it would of been nice to be in with a chance , xxxxxxxx

OliviaMumsnet · 26/07/2007 13:42

Hi everyone

Thanks for your feedback.
We do try extremely hard to make competitions as fair as possible and we are also prepared to take responsibility when things go wrong.

Due to the last minute nature of this comp, we didn't want any disappointed winners to miss out, so we asked the competition host to collect the entry details and contact the winners directly so that, we thought, there would be no hitches . We did all this in good faith and with the best of intentions. Sadly all did not go according to plan and we are sorry about this. We are completely on your side here and fighting your corner as best we can. We, like you, were appalled that the draw took place early, but once this had happened, the only other option was to declare the draw invalid so noone could win and this didn't seem fair on those Mumsnetters who had been told that they had won and no doubt told their children.

We do share your frustration and disappointment , but sadly this mistake was out of our control. We have however learned a very valuable lesson from this, that no matter how great the prize, we need to ensure that we're 100% happy with the way the winners are chosen and the prizes distributed, and ideally we need to remain in control of this process from start to finish.

We're really sorry that some of you have been disappointed by this competition and we promise to ensure that we have another ITNG comp asap - prepared well in advance and run by MNHQ - to give you all another shot at winning Thanks
Yours sheepishly
MNHQ

Psml at the witch-hunt....Jesus!

Olivia, watch out for low-flying pitch forks

edam · 26/07/2007 15:48

It's not MN that posters are criticising, it's the competition organisers.

JeremyVile · 26/07/2007 15:50

Well whoever you're annoyed at...... i still find it ROFLable!

edam · 26/07/2007 15:54

So ICSTIS, Ofcom and the BBC trust are making a fuss about nothing with the current investigation into unfair competitions, then?

MerlinsBeard · 26/07/2007 15:56

so its ok for them to end it early then? to run an unfair competetion that you couldn't void anyway as you didn't host it?

Will contact them myself with ref to this thread i think.

JeremyVile · 26/07/2007 16:10

Its a different issue isnt it Edam?
You have lost nothing by entering this comp, no cost to you was involved.

MerlinsBeard · 26/07/2007 16:12

nor was it fair JV. If the MNetters who had been notified of winning hHADN'T posted we would be none the wiser. There are new rules about fairness of comps and i am currently looking them up

princessshhhh · 26/07/2007 20:20

Only just managed to log on today/tonight..well I think the response from mnhq was a joke. They have contradicted themselves there...

"so we asked the competition host to collect the entry details and contact the winners directly so that, we thought, there would be no hitches . We did all this in good faith and with the best of intentions. Sadly all did not go according to plan and we are sorry about this. We are completely on your side here and fighting your corner as best we can. We, like you, were appalled that the draw took place early"

So................if mn asked for the competition entry details to be collected early and the winners contacted then why were mnhq "so appalled that the draw took place so early"..? . Mmmmmmm something doesn't ring true.
Whoever is to blame suppose we will never know as it still appears that the blame is being passed.

Like mom and edam I also entered as dd would have loved to have met justin and she adores itng. Seing her face light up today when she opened her itng toys said it all. Had I known things would not have been done fairly i to wouldn't have entered.

BTW there is one winner outstanding..as mummy2jake also won..

On another topic, glad to see im not the only one to hate the shiney show...don't see the point of it..wrapping stuff in tin foil....???????

incywincy · 26/07/2007 20:51

The other winner was me and ds1 had a wonderful time today meeting Justin. We had a phonecall yesterday lunchtime and went this morning. So big thank you, he had the best day at Hamleys. Just to say that hamleys are doing other readings with Justin - see here here I rang to see if we could get a place for ds2 and they still had places on friday and saturday. Justin also did a few other readings today which anyone could go to so ds1 went in twice as it was open to anyone there. Ds1 is even more enamoured with Justin than ever.
