Mood swings and surgery

Due to have surgery in just under a week, so self isolating as instructed by the hospital for 10 days and my moods are very up and down, one minute feeling OK about it and the next I'm tearful and anxious. Wondering if this is normal or if its the added factor of having to isolate making me feel a bit wobbly!

@Perpetualstateofchaos

Hi ladies, do you have any hinys or tips coping with self isolation. I have 3 days at the end of the week prior to an op with 2dc on my own.
Hope your op goes well. I found it really hard as i had to isolate for 10 days, but tried to keep myself busy by having calls with family/friends and working from home.

Fairy ages glad your healing nicely.
Toodizzy hope your op went well.
I work term time only so no work to keep myself busy but also means I dont need time off after my op. Thursday evening was the worst part so far when my bf left knowing I wasn't able to see him or anyone else for the next few days. I havent seen him much the last week as he ended up covering a load of night shifts. I think today will be the hardest as I will be in all day no blood tests thankfully as 1 arm is very bruised and tender. Lots to get done around the house today so hoping dc are up soon so i can get their sheets changed along with everything else.

Hi @fairycakesandtea7 @Akire I'm back home after surgery, very weak and sore. Surgeon was very happy at least. I'm getting waves after wave of nerve pain too Fairy cakes, it's really horrible. Very best wishes for your surgery @Perpetualstateofchaos

Perpetualstateofchaos · 23/08/2021 12:27

@toodizzyizzy i hope the pain settles for you soon.
Thank you not looking forward to my stomach being blown up like a balloon but the endo and cyst going will be worth it.

toodizzyizzy · 23/08/2021 12:42

Aww that doesn't sound like a very nice procedure at all @Perpetualstateofchaos
Surgery is an ordeal, but absolutely worth if we eventually get to live a life without pain! When is your operation? For me the wait was worse than the day itself. Hope it goes well for you xx

I had the same situation, when my bf left for the last time for 2 weeks I cried and felt pretty down as I was cooped up in my room!

Glad you're over the other side now! Hopefully that nerve pain starts easing soon. How are you feeling today?

It is. I had morphine while I was under woke up in enormous pain so much so I was in tears. Thankfully they didn't question my pain and gave me fentonyl then another dose as it was still really bad. Consultant was happy the cyst had gone but he removed loads of endo. I was realised last night and have had to phone my gp as the dressings they gave me are too big for the area 1 of the wounds in and ive already had to change 1. Just awaiting a call back from nurse. Im very sore and rather dizzy so taking it easy .

Glad the op went OK and hope you get that call back from the nurse soon. The first few days/weeks after surgery are rotten. Have you got good support at home?

Having a bit of a blip today. Quite tearful and in a lot of pain. Was given the go ahead by the specialist nurse to get out and a about in the wheelchair with my leg up and today the pain is so bad! Trying to focus on the positives, I've switched onto crutches now for hopping about and I'm nearly 3 weeks post op but it's such a long slog!!

Hi @Perpetualstateofchaos I'm really sorry to hear that you've had such an ordeal, it sounds so painful for you. I really hope you have some support in place for you and the kids?

Sorry to hear you've been feeling tearful today @fairycakesandtea7. I've had a bad day too with the pain and I just feel so weak. I think I need to reset my expectations and just rest. I think I tried to come off the morphine too soon.

Perpetualstateofchaos · 25/08/2021 00:57

Sorry to read your both having a hard time. Rest and painkillers are definitely needed. It sounds very painful for your both.
Nurse never called back but I got the dressings still a bit big so went asda for some smaller ones. Bf left about an hour ago and been making me eat as I have no appetite at all and rest. I have my parents close by so mum will probably come in the morning if to see me and will if I need her. I get on really well with my neighbours and they'll help to. Dc2 was in tears earlier as he saw me in a lot of pain so trying to hide the worst of it. I hope you both get a decent night's sleep.

toodizzyizzy · 25/08/2021 17:32

Thank you @Perpetualstateofchaos Good to hear you have support around you too. It's so hard with the pain when the kids are around. I know what you mean about loss of appetite. My throat is sore as I was on a ventilator for the op, be that's getting better though. I'm in better spirits today as my Mum brought by daughter home Smile The boys have been great, but I've really missed both of them. I have someone to do my hair now too! I'm in a sling, so self-care has been difficult. I hope today has been better for you too @fairycakesandtea7

Perpetualstateofchaos · 26/08/2021 12:01

Ventilation isn't nice it seams to take a while for the throat to not to feel dry. Mines still getting there and I was only on it for an hour. Felt awful yesterday with chills etc so keeping an eye out for infection. dc have been looking after me youngest is very protective and put washing etc on for me as wont allow me to pull my stomach muscles.

toodizzyizzy · 26/08/2021 21:49

Hi @Perpetualstateofchaos sorry to hear you've been feeling unwell on top of the pain - did you feel any better today? Your youngest sounds like my son (he's 13 now), these kids really can be amazing just when we need them to be Smile I discovered that ice packs really help, can't believe I didn't think of that sooner! Here's to a good night sleep for all. Hope you're ok @fairycakesandtea7 xxx

Perpetualstateofchaos · 27/08/2021 10:55

Keep feeling dizzy and weak so keeping an eye out. Dc2 is 9 dc1 is 14 and going to cook us all dinner tonight i just hope I feel like eating.
Im glad ice packs are helping.

fairycakesandtea7 · 27/08/2021 23:02

Hope you are both feeling better! This week has been a bit rocky, been out and about in the wheelchair a few times this week as I was going bonkers being indoors all day and my foot is very purple and tingly when it hangs down. Pain is pretty rotten today.

fairycakesandtea7 · 27/08/2021 23:04

Glad you both have support around you and I hope your throats feel better soon! Dizziness is horrible, I had a near-miss fall yesterday due to dizziness. Have to keep reminding myself to get up very slowly and sit at the edge of a chair/sofa/bed for a few minutes before judging if I can get up!

Hope your feeling better fairycakes.
Im so annoyed with how long im taking to heal this time round. Took a walk to the shop last night which is 200m away and nearly passed out in there. They were lovely looked after me and walked me back home. Going to try get an ooh appointment today as I think I have an infection and nowhere near preop mobility which I should be after a week.
I hope your both recovering well.

toodizzyizzy · 30/08/2021 18:41

Hi @fairycakesandtea7 thanks for posting, I'd been wondering how you are. Sorry to hear you've had a difficult weak. Your foot sounds incredibly sore, with much healing still to do. I can understand your boredom and desire to get out. I'm so weak still, I haven't been far at all. The GP told me to reduce the morphine, it seems too soon but I'll try. I need to be more alert for the kids, especially my daughter who is really struggling with her mental health (she's 17).
Hi @Perpetualstateofchaos sorry to hear you've had a difficult time too. Did you manage to get an appointment? It does seem that you need to get checked out in case you do have an infection.
I've not had surgery as an adult, apart from a C-section, so I don't know what to expect in terms of recovery. I'm shocked at how weak I feel 10 days on and I hate the loss of independence - I'm in a sling for 6 weeks.

Perpetualstateofchaos · 30/08/2021 19:46

I hope your daughter is well. Being cooped up isn't much fun. Hopefully your strength will start to improve.
I went to a walk in clinic and was seen immediately wheb I told them I suspected a post op infection. Got to keep it covered for 2 more days as long as weeping has stopped and been put on a string antibiotic. My parents were really worried df expected me to be admitted i half did too so sorted a bag while I was waiting for a lift. Im under strict instructions from mum to rest and sleep lol

toodizzyizzy · 30/08/2021 21:04

Yes you really must rest @Perpetualstateofchaos your body needs to heal and let the antibiotics take effect. I'm glad you got seen today, you sound really poorly. I know you have support around you, it must be hard still so sending my best wishes for you to get better (and hopefully you will in a few days)

Ongoing issues with DD's MH her therapist is back tomorrow after being away for 3 weeks, so that will help xx

Perpetualstateofchaos · 31/08/2021 11:00

Im so used to doing everything its driving me a bit crazy that I cant but my body just won't allow me too. If theres no improvement im going to get in with my gp towards the end of the week. Im supposed to be back at work next week but I just cant see it happening at the moment. Even ny stubbornness couldn't keep me on my feet unaided yesterday. Thank you.
How are you feeling today? I hope your Dd can see her therapist quickly and it helps.

toodizzyizzy · 01/09/2021 18:30

Hi @Perpetualstateofchaos and @fairycakesandtea7
Hope the week is getting better for you.
I can't imagine being back at work, I'm exhausted (and I'm a long way off getting mobility back in my arm). I hope you can get a sick note (and can access sick pay)
Xx
