Get him to ask if more is coming in later. They may still be getting deliveries - good luck.

tulpe · 24/12/2009 09:52

Seriously? No meat? Nothing at all?

This seige mentality does my head in

DarrellRivers · 24/12/2009 09:52

turkish delight?

FabIsSoExcitedAboutXmas · 24/12/2009 09:52

Asda had an advert saying they were constantly restocking.

Local butcher?

LizzyLordsALeaping · 24/12/2009 09:53

That is bonkers!
Hoping that you get something, sure you'll have a lovey time anyway.

I am actually craving something bland like cheese on toast now

Lulumama · 24/12/2009 09:54

local butcher... they are always stuffed to the gills on xmas.

or turkish delight , as darrell said, it is a well known turkey substitute!

Fruitbatlings · 24/12/2009 09:54

Oh don't tell me that!

Guad · 24/12/2009 09:55

dh went last night having poo-pooed the idea of an internet shop this year

He got quite a bit but there was no smoked salmon in three supermarkets!

The man in Sainsburys said the car park was full at 6am.

Oblomov · 24/12/2009 09:56

it is not the end of the world becasue I have bought the leg of lamb and the ingredients for trifle, for xmas day.
but what for today? we suggested saus and mash, or shep pie or chicken and pots to make roast chicken and home made chips.
3 meal suggestions for the next few days.
but he says they have no meat at all, no chickens, no mince.
o.k. so we will not starve, i have plenty to eat, but.
i will walk to the butchers in a minute.
like you say, this siege society - grab now , we are going to be snowed in for atleast 3 weeks, is mad isn't it ???

Oblomov · 24/12/2009 10:02

also, not that i care about supermarkets profits, but they are missing out here.
more like, they are supposed to provide a service to us, and have underestimated demand, so can not fulfil our orders.
bit crap really.

Oblomov, if it's today you are worried about rather than special food for Christmas, just do beans on toast or pasta with cheese or something. You don't have to serve meat at every meal!

I am so glad we are being taken in by various relatives over the Christmas period! Might take the kids to the local shops in a bit for milk and bread for christmas day breakfast (we have bacon in the freezer and cereal on the shelf) but from then on we are at relatives houses until 5th Jan! Stressful, but it looks like it might be the less stressful option after all...

ShinyAndNew · 24/12/2009 10:07

Oh bloody hell. We are doing our big shop later. Luckily my meat is being reserced by my lovely butcher (the old one from near where I used to live, even though we have moved and he hasn't seen us for months he is still being extra lovely) who didn't even require a deposit and is writing DH cooking insrtuctions for the perfect pork with crackling and tender lamb.

My veg is reserved by the lovely veg man.

So we have xmas dinner sorted at least. But what of tea? We did this last year and all was fine.

cornysxmasmuffmusic · 24/12/2009 10:08

dh is at the shops now on a veg and meat mission

I was however thinking of catching the bus to the supermarket to get some posh nibbles for supper tonight and maybe some last minute pressies for the kids (oh! I forgot my Grandad too!) but not sure if a double buggy on a bus today is such a good idea...

mumto2andnomore · 24/12/2009 10:11

Our local co op is the opposite, loads of turkeys reduced to £6 instead of £30, lots of meat, fresh stuff all reduced they have seriously over ordered by the looks of it !

ButterPie · 24/12/2009 10:30

Ooh, i could try the co-op...hopefully the over ordering is a national thing...

Jacaqueen · 24/12/2009 10:31

I know some people do have the seige mentality but the roads are so bad that the supermarkets can't get the food delivered from the distribution centres to the shops.

mehgalegs · 24/12/2009 10:33

Was about to say same as jaca, our sainsbury's lost lots of deliveries due to the snow.

Our local farm shop has tonnes of meat and veg thank God as I had forgotten the ham and supermarkets were sold out of sausage meat

TheWorldFamousKewcumber · 24/12/2009 10:33

don't you have anything in the freezer or tins that you could magic into a sumptuous feast?

traceybath · 24/12/2009 10:46

Agree with jacaqueen - its more that the supermarkets aren't getting all their deliveries through.

Hope your DH manages to forage something. My DH went to M&S at 6pm last night and they were re-stocking shelves and wasn't too busy at all.

HumBuggerance · 24/12/2009 11:02

bEEN to asda this morning, plenty of everything. AND we have 6 inches of snow overnight.

BonjourIvressedeNoel · 24/12/2009 11:04

Our local farmshop had lots in.
