For SIL, mid thirties?

Have bought one already, DP says she will take offence becuase it's an 'old ladies' present. I'm 25 and I'd use it?

I'm sort of on the fence - personally I'd hate it (am in my 40s) but can see some people would like it. It is a bit elderly. Unless you know she has "tired, aching muscles" around her neck.

ChickandDuck · 23/12/2009 14:07

I've seen her possibly 5 times this year so was a really tough decision buying for her. I've bought mainly scarves and jewelerry for everyone else, but her style is quite different to mine, so hard!

She does some sport, that would make you achey?? Oh crap, is she going to hate me?!

my nanna would love that

dinoroar · 23/12/2009 14:11

I have to say, I don't think I would be too thrilled with that. (early thirties)

ChickandDuck · 23/12/2009 14:12

uh oh.... should I be grabbing a box of chocolates??!

MyCatHasARedderNoseThanRudolph · 23/12/2009 14:14

I would think it was a bit odd and I'm v late 30's.

Chocs or wine if I were you.

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 23/12/2009 14:15

nah if you dont see her much i wouldnt care - forget to put a label on it and put it amongst some good stuff

RainRainGoAway · 23/12/2009 14:15

Give her it with the receipt. She will love that combination! Otherwise I think she will wonder a little bit abotu whether you like her or not.

FolornHope · 23/12/2009 14:16

no

potoftea · 23/12/2009 14:16

I have one of these and my dd aged 19 used mine so much that I had to buy her one for herself.

I also bought one for my mother last year (she's 78) and she hated it, so not sure about it only being for old people then.

FolornHope · 23/12/2009 14:16

i mean yes

4CALLINGBIRDSandnotout · 23/12/2009 14:17

Im 27 and think i would cry if that were one of my presents I do have a rule thought that if i cannot eat it or wear it i don't want it

ChickandDuck · 23/12/2009 14:17

Shit. I really fought my corner with DP too have I really got it completly wrong?? I was imagining hot bath, candles, next warmer, good book? Just me??

OP posts:
hohoholepew · 23/12/2009 14:18

Yes it is, but I'd like one.

AboardtheAxiom · 23/12/2009 14:19

Hmm I don't think I would be thrilled (but wouldn't show it and would thank you).

Get your DP to buy for his side of the family next xmas! Or don't buy for adults at all - much easier, cheaper, and no present politics.

DisElfchanted3 · 23/12/2009 14:19

Are you supposed to wear it outside??

Is it part otter?

RainRainGoAway · 23/12/2009 14:19

Yes, just you.
Give her that, the receipt and a cheery note saying you won't be offended if she exchanges it.

ChickandDuck · 23/12/2009 14:23

No, inside, whilst relaxing....

Would a box of chocs be better, they would most probably be bought on the way to their house tomorrow so likely to be a box of roses from the garage, unwrapped!

OP posts:
fanjolina · 23/12/2009 14:36

Do what RainRains says.

Shows you have put more thought into her gift that just buying a box of Roses. But she can change it if she wants.

ChickandDuck · 23/12/2009 14:39

I might say, "I know it's a bit 'old' but I think they're great and I won't be offened if you exchange it" when I hand it over?

OP posts:
TisTheSeasonToBeHully · 23/12/2009 14:39

It is a bit of an I-can't-think-what-to-get-you pressie.

ChickandDuck · 23/12/2009 14:41

Thats ok then , because I couldn't I don't think she's expecting me to know!
