I mean to play in, like as snowmen, stars etc.

My 3 y o loves dress up, and has a snowman costume, a star and a sheep costume.

My baby has a snowman suit and a santa suit. I know some people don't like them, but I think they look cute.

No, I quite like my children

Meglet · 20/12/2009 21:30

I can't afford to do it, but I think kids look seriously cute when they are dressed up as puddings, santa's etc.

MrsThePoint · 20/12/2009 21:41

What about if your LOs asked to dress up whomovedmychocolate? My son asked for his dress up, and he chose the baby's too.

OK, if no, why not? Are your children not allowed dress up or pretend clothes at other times of the year?

if my children specifically asked for a snowman suit etc, and then asked to wear it on the day of course i'd let them

but i wouldn't go out and buy one specially. and i wouldn't dress the baby up, i think it's a bit naff

chegirlwithbellson · 20/12/2009 21:52

Hell Yeah! Whats the point of having dollies kids if you cant dress them up?

I usually nip to Mothercare/Tescos on Christmas eve when the costumes are much cheaper.

MrsThePoint · 20/12/2009 21:52

Thisisyesterday, do you think all themed dress up naff? Princess clothes, party dresses and so on?

OP posts:
MrsThePoint · 20/12/2009 21:57

I must add that all the costumes we have were bought at reduced prices and have brought over the last few years, one a year. I don't see the point in paying out heaps for them. I do think they look sweet though, and I can?t see how they are naff. Children like dress up, and I wouldn?t force my children to dress in a costume they didn?t like.

My parents have bought a reindeer sleepsuit for ds (1mo) and I will be putting it on him on Christmas day because I think it looks so cute. It's not something I would have bought myself, but seeing as I've now got it, Christmas day seems a good time to use it.

dd2 has been wearing dd1's angel costume all day. T'was from her Nativity. Yesterday she had on dd1's snowman outfit from her dancing panto last year.

She loves to dress up. Her cutest was when she wore dd1's Oopma Lumpa costume for a fancy dress party. I might make her wear it again this year. Dd1 hates it. Always has done, but it's sooo cute.

CardyMow · 20/12/2009 22:08

I used to when they were tiny. DD has been an angel, a christmas tree and mrs Claus. DS1 has been a pudding and Father Christmas. I have an excellent picture of DS2 at 4 weeks old, dressed as a present, under the christmas tree on his first Christmas. DS2's also been an elf, father christmas and a reindeer. My cousin's babies (both boys, one 4 months, one 2 months) are getting a snowman outfit and an elf outfit. However, If I tried to dress them up now, I might have to run very quickly hide from them trying to kill me....

CardyMow · 20/12/2009 22:09

Might like to point out that the babies are from 2 different cousin's, sounded a bit odd when I re-read that!! (I blame the vino )

ShinyAndNew · 20/12/2009 22:10

Oh, no on Xmas day, they have party dresses. But this will be our 1st xmas at home, so they can change into fancy dress if they want to. Dd2 no doubt will be a fairy because she is getting her very own dressing up outit off my mum.

hellzapoppin · 20/12/2009 22:14

You know you are so right, it is soo cute to dress a baby up in a funny festive outfit.
i've chosen mine

thisisyesterday · 20/12/2009 22:16

i think that buying a christmas-themed outfit specifically to put a baby in on christmas day is naff

doesn't bother me if ds1 chooses to be a giant insect/sportacus/cowboy whenever he pleases.
he is old enough to choose to do so, and to ask for outfits he'd like though

MrsThePoint · 20/12/2009 22:17

Oh, not sure I like that at all. It's very adult humour, where as snowmen, santa and the like are what children chose themselves, surely?

OP posts:
MrsThePoint · 20/12/2009 22:21

Thisisyesterday, do you think buying a christmas-themed outfit for your baby specifically for Christmas Day is more naff than buying a party dress or outfit specifically for the day? If so, why?

My MIL dresses them up, this and last year (as they still fit) as Christmas princess and prince from M & S (she works there, got them reduced), and I happily let here, they love it.

I prefer more low key christmas wear, this year they both have red long sleeved t-shirts with a rein deer on for dd and a snow man for ds. Last year they had a pink and a blue long sleeved t-shirt each with a christmas tree on.

muggglewump · 20/12/2009 22:26

DD's first and second Christmas (4 months and 16 months), I dressed her up.
Santa suit the first year, rudolph the second.
If you can't make your kids look stupid cute when they're young, then when can you?

hellzapoppin · 20/12/2009 22:26

Mrsthepoint your name suits you

The POINT is a baby doesn't get a choice either way - whether it's a tacky xmas tree, an air freshener or a frickin hot dog for that matter.

And yes, dressing a baby up as a xmas pudding is infinitely more naff than putting some nice clothes on him/her.
